Summary: The Zephyr 1 Tent makes a great choice for camping in the wilderness. Because of its splendid waterproofing abilities and full-mesh walls, it is a viable option for people who are looking to camp in the wilderness where the weather can get rough, or if you’re camping on a hot summer night where temperatures can rise and you want panoramic views of the night sky while the rain fly is off.
Why You Should Read My Review
There’s a big reason why you need to read my ALPS Mountaineering Zephyr 1 Person Tent Review. And that’s simply because tents aren’t as good as the manufacturers claim them to be. They DO get the job done, but most of them don’t perform as well as they have been described to on the product page.
I’m here to do my own research on this tent. I will be debunking all the online reviews and then providing my own opinion about them all. Keep reading if you want to discover the true benefits and the flaws of this tent.
Product Description
This is a 3 season tent that’s been created to handle the hot, humid summer nights. This is so you can feel a breeze in your tent due to the ALL-mesh walls that it provides.
Because the walls and roof are made entirely of mesh, you get maximum ventilation and fresh air. This tent offers a 2-pole, freestanding design and heightened roof, making it easier for users to sit up without hitting their head on the roof or feeling cramped up.
There’s another good reason why this tent has been set up with this typical design. The clips that snap over the tent poles result in a much easier and faster set up.
The floor and rain fly have been factory seam-sealed, meaning there is no additional weatherproofing required. While the strong 75D 185T polyester rain fly resists UV-ray damage as much as possible and continues to stay taut when it gets wet or if it heats up.
It has been given extra-large, #8 zippers. These are much better than the usual, smaller ones that other tents use. These large zippers are much more durable and less likely to break, even when used frequently.

Key Features
- Aircraft alloy aluminium poles – These poles consist of a strong material to handle rough wind conditions, but still being lightweight
- Large door – The door is placed at the END of the tent, instead of on the side. It is extremely large too, allowing easier entry and exit
- Vestibule area – The rain fly stretches right out and creates a little room under it, called a vestibule. This extra space is good for storing your dirty boots and gear
- Rain fly buckles – Instead of using the traditional, elastic cords, the Zephyr 1 uses buckles to keep the fly attached to the tent. This offers a much stronger and more secured attachment
- All-mesh walls – The mesh walls offer incredible ventilation and fresh air as a result of this design
- Extra head room – This tent is a little larger (higher roof and wider floor) than other 1 person tents
Is This Tent Unique?
Sure it is. The extra head room is not something you see often on 1 person tents. Even the full-mesh walls was a feature that caught my eye.
Not to mention the huge door that’s located at the end of the tent to offer even more convenience.
This tent is definitely unique. ALPS have done a really great job with the design.
Who Should Buy This Tent?
The ALPS Mountaineering Zephyr 1 Person Tent makes an awesome choice for backpackers, simply because it is lightweight and strong.
Anyone on the larger side will find that this tent is a good fit for them. The extra head room, widened flooring AND large door adds great convenience for the bigger/taller men.
Otherwise if you just want a tent that provides incredible ventilation and fresh air, then this tent is definitely for you.
Where Can I Buy?
You can get this tent from Amazon.com.
Amazon are known for extremely fast deliveries, cheaper prices and 30 day return policies, which is why this is my preferred choice for online shopping. The shipping is free for all orders made to the US too.
The price of this tent sits between $100- $150, as it changes all the time.
The Verdict
This is probably the best bang-for-your-buck, 1-person tent on the market. A lot of buyers love this tent due to it being extremely easy to set up and capable of keeping you bone dry in heavy downpours.
It’s not the lightest backpacking tent, but it is still on the lighter side for this activity. It has been used for motorcycle camping, kayak camping, and even wilderness backpacking.
I have come to the conclusion that the ALPS Mountaineering Zephyr 1 Person Tent works exactly as advertised, it’s easy to set up and works like a charm when you’re counting on it the most.
If you want a 1 person tent that’s affordable but still high quality and gets the job done without any hassles whatsoever, then this tent is for you.
Great design with minor cons and lots of beneficial pros.
I can easily give this tent a thumbs up, highly recommended!
