The 12 Best Tents For Tall People In 2020

Posted on March 15, 2017September 15, 2020 by Brandon

[Updated 2020]

If you’re looking for the best tents for tall people, I’ll be talking about them in this article.

I am by no means a giant or anything like that, but I have definitely seen the struggles my friends go through JUST to fit inside their small tent.

If they can’t find a good one to fit in, they have to make-do with what they already have, which is usually too damn small.

That’s why I decided to write this article. I want to help tall people find a tent that’s much easier to fit in AND going to last for many years to come.

Keep reading to discover them all…

If you’re looking for a livable, LUXURY tent, you simply can not go wrong with this one.

It contains a dark room feature, meaning you can actually sleep in after the sun rises.

Furthermore, it stops the tent from heating up during the hot summer days – up to 9.5%.

Inside The Coleman Carlsbad 4-Person Dome Dark Room Tent

The screened room makes it easier for you to sit and enjoy the trees blowing in the wind while you enjoy your morning coffee.

It’s a great way to keep the bugs off you too!

Even better?

It has its own floor, so if you want an extra person to come along on the camping trip, they can sleep in there.

But make sure you’re not expecting rain, as the rain fly doesn’t cover that entire area.

5. Sundome 3 Person Tent

Floor Size: 7 x 7 feetSundome 4 Person Tent

Weight: 7.2 pounds

Description:

The Coleman Sundome 3 is part of the Sundome series of tents.

It can house a total of 3 people and has large “D” door for easier entry and exit.

The rain fly creates an awning. This feature allows you to keep the door open while it’s raining so you can still get ventilation.

There is a large window located at the back of the tent to make sure you get the best cross-breeze. Not to mention the mesh panels on the roof that gives you even more air flow.

The floor is bathtub-shaped, so rain water on the ground can’t leak into the tent.

All the seams are welded, even in the corner, for extra protection against ground water and/or moisture.

It is also easy to set up, just like most dome tents.

Coleman have really gone the extra mile to ensure no rain gets inside this tent, since they have included their special WeatherTec System’s patented welded floors AND inverted seams.

Although it isn’t as quick to set up as the other tents mentioned, it can still be done in about 15 minutes.

7. CORE 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent

Floor Size: 11 x 9 feetCORE 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent - 11' x 9'
Height: 6 feet

This tent has pre-attached poles. It can be pitched in LITERALLY 60 seconds flat! And that’s no exaggeration either.

It’s as simple as unpacking the tent, unfolding it, and extending it to get it pitched.

It offers active bead technology for the best water run-off, ensuring no rain water will leak inside the tent.

Furthermore, all seams are factory sealed and the windows/doors have all been highly waterproofed so absolutely 0 leaks will get inside the tent.

The roof has mesh material so you can remove the rain fly in the warmer months and have a full view of the clear night sky.

The advance air intake draws cool air from the ground and releases it through the top. This specific design keeps you at the best temperature, all season long.

11. Arizona GT 9 to 10 Person Tent

Floor Size: 8 x 17.3 feetArizona GT 9 to 10 Person Tent With Rain Fly
Height: 6.7 feet
Weight: 22.8 pounds

Description:

This tent was actually rated the #6 best family tent in 2016, and I can clearly see why!

They haven’t skimped over ANY of the details.

For those of you who don’t know, Arizona GT is a Brazilian company who create every single one of their tents good enough to survive the Amazon weather.

This tent has a seamless floor, up to 8 inches in fact, providing great protection from the bottom of the tent.

They wanted to create a tent to withstand heat, so they came up with this one, having the ability to keep the air flow moving due to the amazing ventilation/cross breeze it offers.

The Nano-flex poles keep this tent standing in strong winds, and because the poles are created from non-recycled materials, it gives the overall tent a much stronger construction.

A lot of the metal parts are gold plated to stop rust building on them.

Oh, and did I mention there’s a detachable room divider as well?

12. Big Agnes Battle Mountain 2 Tent

Floor Size: 7 x 4.8ft
Height: 3.5ft
Weight: 7lbs 8oz

Description:

I wanted to include this tent for the simple fact that it has amazing floor space and the height is rather decent. The length is nice and there is plenty of room if you are tall

It is more than just a shelter, but more of an outdoor suite. Very luxurious!

It includes a Dominico undyed ripstop ployester fly, 2 fly vents that increase air flow, reflective webbing, and oversize 3D bin pockets! There is also 2 doors, which adds great convenience for all

Again this tent is a little expensive, but Big Agnes did a really great job with this tent and it is perfect for any tall person!

Conclusion

Every single one of these tents outlined in this article will fit ANYONE over 7 feet.

Now I highly doubt that you are taller than 7 feet, but if you are, then you’ll still fit in them.

If you enjoy a tall center height, I’ve included the more bigger tents in the list to help you make a decision.

What’s my favorite tent out of these?

That would hands down be the Coleman Evanston Screened Tent.

Hundreds of users have found the Coleman Evanston to work exactly as advertised and I have no doubts that it performs as promised as well.

However, if you’re searching for a lighter tent, the Coleman Carlsbad 4-Person Dome Dark Room Tent weighs a LOT less but still just as good.

If you need help finding a tent to fit your needs, I’ll be happy to steer you in the right direction. Leave a comment below 🙂

Cheers!

Great tips on tents! the different kinds of tents that are available for people who aren’t the normal height. Although I’m not a tall person I like the fact that you factor in detail and description on each tent . I’m certainly going to share this article with a particular friend of mine . Appreciate it a lot and i did enjoy reading every piece of this article. Do you have a favorite tent that you enjoy?

Thanks for the kind comment 🙂

I have many tents that I enjoy actually, one being the Coleman Steel Creek 6 Tent, mostly because of the screened porch area and the ability to keep the rain out, a LOT.

    Hey Brandon,
Thanks for the info as we are in the market for a family tent. Some of these tents are great value. I’m just under 7Ft and appreciate the value in height.

I’m curious on body spacing for 2 adult and 2 children. Is it better to option for a larger tent like the Wenzel Pine Ridge Tent – 5 Person or does Coleman Carlsbad 4-Person Dome account for extra space for bags etc?

I’m glad you enjoyed it, buddy. If you’re going with 2 adults and 2 children, I would personally choose the Coleman Carlsbad 4-Person Dark Room Tent, for the simple fact that it has the dark room feature and the screened room. The Wenzel Pine Ridge Tent is also a good choice, but since you are camping with children, it’s not like they’re going to take up much room anyway.

I wish I’d seen this fine post 30 years ago. I’m not excessively tall (6′ 1″), but I totally understand the feeling that tents are made for midgets. I think I lay awake most night afraid to move in case I brought the whole thing down.
    Thanks for this informative post.

I’m sorry Derek, the net wasn’t even created 30 years ago – well I don’t think it was anyway, haha. And no worries, I’m glad to help 🙂

Great site Brandon. I’ve been thinking of doing some long distance walks for a long time now and ideally want a lightweight tent, easy to pitch and packs up small. I’m only 5’8″ though (so these tents aren’t for me), and living in the UK. It seems like you are the man to come to. I have bookmarked your site and will definitely be following your postings.
    Thanks

Hey Mark! First and foremost, thanks for your comment, it is much appreciated.

If you’re 5.8 feet, there are plenty of lightweight tents available.

The Big Agnes Fly Creek 1 Platinum Tent is actually one of the lightest solo tents that Big Agnes has created, or you can also check out the cheaper option – but also still good – the Snugpak Ionosphere 1 Person Tent.

Both are viable options, but you’ll need to check out both of my reviews to get a better understanding of the pros and cons.

      Cheers 🙂

I am a camper myself, and a biker. Therefore I had to find a tent with small package size, and I found it.

Interesting article. For a girl I’m about 5ft and 6inches, which is about average. I like the tents though. You give a very good description of each one. I have a friend who likes camping and he is tall. This is good place for some basic info if one wants to buy a tent for camping.

Great post. It is very handy to have such information especially for camping lovers. Last summer I was camping on the Boracko Lake in Bosnia and Herzegovina and my military tent showed me I made a great choice. It is very important that water doesn’t get inside whilst raining. You did us a favor describing each tent so we could decide what is best for us. Thx

You hit it on the money with this article. Nothing is worse than to have planned a weekend away for some camping in a beautiful mountain retreat than to set your tent up, and then spend the rest of the weekend playing hunch bunk everytime you enter your tent. By the end of the weekend, your back is sore from the tent experience rather than from the location experience!! I myself prefer a tent where you can stand and walk around with no height issues and still have plenty of room for sleeping bags and perhaps a chair or two-maybe even a small table. When looking for a tall tent, do you recommend canvas or a poly tent?

      Hahaha, exactly.

Fortunately I’m not that tall so I don’t have these issues, but I absolutely KNOW others suffer from the size of small tents and always end up needing a bigger one.

I prefer poly tents for the light weight and ease-of-use but canvas tents for more extreme weather conditions.

Thank you, Brandon for the detailed information regarding tents. Reading them got me excited to go camping again. I already have a cool tree hanging tent but it’s always good to know what is available out there for future reference.

I also have an old tent that now leaks when it rain. I am thinking of getting an extra tarp to cover the top. Any suggestion on how to remedy the leakage?

That’s good to hear that this post excites you to go camping!

Tree hanging tents are amazing and I am very impressed at how fun they are to use. I may have to start reviewing them in the future as I’m sure they’re going to gain more popularity soon 😀

About that leakage, it all depends on how bad it is, but yes I have some methods to remedy it in this article.

If you have anymore questions, just ask 🙂

What a great website, Brandon! I’m not tall, nor have I done much camping in recent years, but after visiting your site and reading all of the info you have here I’m ready to go camping again! I love being outdoors and enjoying all of nature’s beauty. I’ve bookmarked your site so I can visit often and share it with my friends and siblings who enjoy camping. Most of them are taller than I am too. 🙂

You will feel great when you’ve gone out of your comfort zone and done something you don’t really do usually.
