5 Sleeping Bags for Ultralight Campers & Backpackers

Posted on August 24, 2017 by Brandon

I’m an avid camper but enjoy a backpacking trip into the wilderness every now and then.

I’m not the biggest guy in the world, however, I do like to keep the weight of my backpack down so I don’t need to take a break every 30 minutes.

Over the years I’ve found some amazing ultralight sleeping bags that I think all lightweight campers and backpackers will enjoy.

I will write them all below, so please enjoy! 😀

5 Best Ultralight Sleeping Bags

1. Goose Down Sleeping Bag Ultralight Mummy Bags 800 Fill Power 11 Degree 52 F with Lightweight Compression Sack

Goose Down Sleeping Bag Ultralight Mummy Bags 800 Fill Power 11 Degree 52 F with Lightweight Compression Sack

The Goose Down Sleeping Bag is extremely lightweight, affordable, and compresses down extremely small – down to 12 x 20 cm in fact.

It contains 800 fill and soft skin fabric to ensure you get a comfortable nights sleep.

The shell and lining is nylon, but the shell is actually waterproof.

It is NOT machine washable but can be washed by hand with natural soap. However, do not hard scrub it and let it dry in the sun.

Always leave it in the white storage bag when storing it away, which is included in the purchase. This will allow the sleeping bag to keep its loft and softness.

Use the stuff sack on your outdoor adventures though.

Some more features include:

  • Ultra lightweight. A weight of 1.2 pounds makes this the lightest sleeping bag in the list
  • Highly compressible. Compresses down to a mere 12 x 20 cm
  • Waterproof shell means condensation will not get built up in or around the sleeping bag
  • The “WIND HARD” brand is trying to provide the same amount of quality as the more expensive brands but without the high prices

Brandon, it’s amazing how far they have come with sleeping bags. I remember those big, bulky and heavy bags in the past. They were unreal for campers and backpackers – mostly backpackers. A lot of them were not waterproof so, when it rained, they were a nightmare if you didn’t have a waterproof tent.

What I like about the Goose Down Sleeping Bag Ultralight Mummy Bags is that it only weighs 1.2 lbs., that is really light! Hard to believe they can make sleeping bags that light. As you said would make a great option for those who are camping and/or back packing in the summer. Great review on sleeping bags.

    All the best to you,
    Don

I’d have to agree with you, Don. They have very much so changed over the years.

And guess what? They’re only going to get even better over the years, with the ever-growing technology, sleeping bags will have more features added to them and they will only become lighter than what they already are.

Cheers for the comment. Much appreciated.

I like the looks of the Outdoor Vitals Aerie 30°F Down Underquilt. 5 in 1, huh?! Sounds good to me … or maybe I just like the idea of using it as a hammock, as pictured.

Each of them look appealing for cold weather. They all look pretty cozy. It’s amazing, the cold rating they can withstand. With fall and winter coming, these are some terrific suggestions!

Hah, that one caught your eye too?

It’s very unique and very lightweight for what you can use it for. I’m just glad it has many different uses, because I’ll probably get one for myself sometime in the near future.

Thanks for your comment and I hope you have a great time in the outdoors 🙂
