Coleman Heritage Big and Tall Sleeping Bag

A Coleman Heritage Big and Tall Sleeping Bag Review

Posted on August 20, 2017February 17, 2020 by Brandon

What is the Coleman Heritage Big and Tall Sleeping Bag?

Is it really taller than other sleeping bags and a good choice for tall people?

So many questions and so little time, so let’s debunk all the online reviews and find the true quality in this Coleman Heritage Big and Tall Sleeping Bag review.

Minor cons and major pros
  • Functionality
  • Quality
  • Comfortability
  • Weight
  • Value
4.1

Summary:

This sleeping bag is heavy, a little scratchy and contains thin outer material. However, those are the only flaws I could find for it. Apart from those it is extremely comfortable, warm, big, and has no trouble getting the job done. A great sleeping bag at an affordable price!

Coleman Heritage Big and Tall Sleeping Bag

 Pros  Cons
  • You will stay warm all night (for traditional camping trips), and if you get too hot just unzip it to let warm air out
  • Such a large sleeping bag. Tall and large people can fit inside it with ease. It fits 6′ 5″ people comfortably
  • Described as incredibly comfortable by many users
  • Highly affordable and contains lots of great features that the more expensive bags have
  • It’s not lightweight or compact, so it’s more suited for camping rather than backpacking
  • A couple of complaints about the outer layer being thin and low quality
  • The lining is a bit scratchy

What Is This Sleeping Bag All About?

This is the Coleman Heritage Big and Tall Sleeping Bag, designed to keep you alive at temperatures as low as 0 Degrees Fahrenheit.

It has a full construction lock to eliminate cold spots, stopping cold air from getting inside the sleeping bag.

The rectangular design means even tall people can fit inside the bag comfortably, up to 6′ 5″ in fact.

The zippers do not snag.

This is because the “Patented Zipper System” PULLS the zippers away from the fabric, while the Thermolock system ensures no heat escapes through the zipper holes.

The Comfort Cuff feature provides your face with warmth, comfort and softness while you sleep.

Furthermore, the Fiberlock system stops the fill from shifting, which is needed after multiple trips – extends the life of the bag.

Now this sleeping bag is easy and quick to roll and completely machine washable.

Bonuses

Big & Tall – It is a little taller and wider than other sleeping bags, making it a viable option for people that love their space

No-Tie Closure – The no-tie patented system makes storing it away a breeze

Connectivity – Get 2 of these sleeping bags and zip them up together. This makes a DOUBLE sleeping bag

100% Machine Washable – It is machine washable thanks to the cotton cover and lining

5-Year Limited Warranty – The 5-year limited warranty covers you for defects from wear and tear, NOT defects from careless use

What I Find Interesting

The cotton cover and synthetic lining is a great concept. I like it!

It consists of a whopping 5 pound FILL. This is exactly how it keeps you warm in extreme cold conditions.

And of course the fact that it can fit big and tall people. This was actually the very first feature that stuck out to me.

Tall people have a hard enough time finding sleeping bags as it is, so I’m glad this one works for them πŸ™‚

Who Should Buy This Sleeping Bag?

Obviously if you’re a tall person looking for a highly affordable sleeping bag to fit in comfortably, this one is a great choice.

It is not a DOWN bag so you don’t have to fork out $200+ or anything like that.

The rectangular design means even large people can fit inside it without feeling squished up.

Best used for:

  • Summer camping (just unzip when it gets too hot)
  • Backpacking the wilderness
  • Overnight hiking
  • Winter camping (have a blanket for backup)
  • Family camping
  • Sleepovers
  • Backyard camping

Best Place To Buy?

The best place to purchase this sleeping bag is from Amazon.com.

In my honest opinion, they have the best deals and customer service.

In addition to the 5-year limited warranty from the manufacturers, Amazon provide a 30-day return policy.

What is this “30-day return policy” I speak of?

Get your money back within those first 30 days if you decide you don’t like your purchase!

All repairs are free of charge as well.

They also have next-day delivery and free delivery for orders over $40.

Do I Recommend This Sleeping Bag?

Basically, this sleeping bag is like a GIANT comforter.

Most of the reviews are from people saying they love how big and tall it is, how warm, and of course how COMFORTABLE it is.

That’s what a sleeping bag is all about, so well done Coleman, you have done a great job with this one.

In all honesty, you can’t go wrong for the price.

The cons are from people nitpicking at a sleeping bag in a low price range. I mean, what did they expect for something so low in price?

Who cares if the lining is a “bit” scratchy or the outer layer is thin. As long as it keeps you warm, that’s all that matters.

And the weight isn’t that much of an issue if you’re going car camping anyway.

This is an easy YES!

The Coleman Heritage Big and Tall Sleeping Bag is highly recommended!

My Final Opinion

I wouldn’t worry about the minor cons if I were you.

The pros outweigh the cons by a long shot.

As a matter of fact, this sleeping bag is what you make of it.

If you purchase it KNOWING how heavy it is and decide to go backpacking with it anyway, it is your fault when you can’t put anything else in your pack because it is taking up most of the weight.

However, if you be smart about it and use it for car camping, backyard, public campsites, etc. you can take advantage of all the benefits it offers because you won’t have to worry about the weight.

The cons are minor, the pros are HUGE and the price is right!

I will have to give this sleeping bag a BIG thumbs up – highly recommended!

For me, being 6’4″, being able to comfortably fit and stay warm outweighs any possible negatives out there. What a great find. Nice post!

It’s interesting to see how far tall campers go to be in a warm, comfortable sleeping bag to fit in easily. Thanks for letting us know what you think πŸ™‚

Cheers for the quick post that gets straight to the point!

I wondered about how compact this sleeping bag is? I understand you wouldn’t take it hiking or anything but me and my girlfriend are packing up my sedan soon and heading around Australia but still wanted two really comfortable sleeping bags. Do you think this could be for us?

    Thanks in advance.

      No worries! πŸ˜€

You definitely won’t be backpacking with it, however, you don’t need to worry about weight with a car so it will work for you. It doesn’t compact down a LOT but that’s because it provides so much warmth and comfort. Hope this helps.

By right I shouldn’t even read this review, Brandon, for two reasons: I don’t go camping, and I am little. But when I read warmth and cuddly comfort, I become all ears and eyes! I love anything that could keep me nice and cozy, as I feel the cold very easily. I’m not saying I would need a sleeping bag to sleep inside my bed – my husband would argue I have enough layers on me to keep me roasted for the whole night. But it’s certainly an item not to forget for when we guests staying over. So, thank you ever so much for the very good suggestion ?

You’re right. It’s a good sleeping bag for when guests come over or when you just want to cuddle into something on a cold winters night. A lot of people who’ve bought it have also used it at home so I absolutely know it’s a good choice for you. Thanks for the comment, and good luck.

Looks like it is a great product. But the weight is twice compared to the one that I’m using. Do you have any recommendation of travel light sleeping bags? As I’m a backpacker, it would be nice to have a lightweight comfy sleeping bag.

That’s one of the downsides to this sleeping bag, however, it more than makes up for it with the affordable price, comfort and warmth.

I DO have a lightweight sleeping bag that you will like. It is currently the best “bang for your buck” bag I’ve reviewed so far.

Its EXTREMELY affordable and only weighs 2.87 pounds. Check out the TETON Sports TrailHead +20F Ultralight Sleeping Bag here.

This sleeping bag looks promising. I do not mind the scratchy material nor the big size. In fact, I would like it to be as big and comfortable as possible as I am a taller guy. Thanks for your recommendation. The one I have now is really small and not that warm. Might need a change up soon!

Hello Rob. It is indeed one of my favorite sleeping bags I’ve reviewed so far.
