Double sleeping bags allow you to cuddle with your partner, save on space and weight.
They have their pros and cons but the main reason people use them is to snuggle with their partner and have extra space in their backpacks (for backpackers).
There are few considerations you need to realize before purchasing one, and that’s what I’ve listed below.
Keep reading to learn what special considerations you need to look for and which sleeping bags to get.
How To Choose The Best Double Sleeping Bag
Purpose
The purpose of your sleeping bag determines which one you need to get.
Figuring this out is the most important part, as you can make a better informed decision on what one to choose.
For example: do you need a double sleeping bag to camp in the mountains or just an overnight camping trip on a hot summers night?
How about a sleepover at a family event?
Choose what you need the sleeping bag for, then move forward.
Weight
This does not apply to you if you’re going car camping, to a family event or a sleepover.
Whenever you’re not carrying the sleeping bag on an extended trip, you can have one of the heaviest sleeping bags in the market if you wanted to.
However, when backpacking, even short distances, weight plays a huge role.
This is where you have to choose wisely.
If not, you’ll make your trip much more difficult than it has to be.
Price
Most good sleeping bags are reasonably priced, but if you’re wanting to go backpacking up a mountain in a snowstorm, be prepared to fork out a lot of money.
If you just want a double bag to cuddle with your partner on a cool summers night, you do NOT need anything fancy or expensive.
Do not think you need to pay an arm and a leg just to sleep in the outdoors.
Prices vary a lot and I’ve found with double sleeping bags that the less quality it is, the least expensive it will be.
This means you get what you pay for and that makes choosing a sleeping bag much easier for us.
Temperature Ratings
Instead of just listing the “advertised temperature rating” under the names of the sleeping bags, I’ve taken the extra step to find the survival rating AND comfortable rating.
This will fix up any confusion you may have regarding sleeping bag temperature ratings.
Basically, most manufacturers give you the survival rating without telling us that it’s the survival rating.
This leads people to believe it is the comfortable rating and lots of confusion and negative reviews when they find out it’s not (mostly when they’re in the field at 3 in the morning shivering and can’t get to sleep).

What Double Sleeping Bag Do I Recommend?
I’m actually a big fan of the Teton Sports Tracker Ultralight Double Sleeping Bag.
It’s not too pricey, too heavy or too cold, and it has ‘opportunity’ written all over it.
I would say it’s the most versatile sleeping bag on this list, as it’s ultralight, tough and dependable, warm and comfortable.
It costs a little less than a hundred bucks but still a great investment since it’ll keep you warm on cold nights and cool on hot nights.
This wasn’t even a difficult recommendation for me. I knew from the get go that the Teton Sports Tracker Ultralight Double Sleeping Bag was the best one out of the lot.
So that is my recommendation, however, they are all great choices nonetheless.
Conclusion
These are all good choices and the only ones that stood out to me while doing my research.
Like I said, choose one that’ll suit your camping trip and you can’t go wrong.
However, I know double sleeping bags can be confusing (with the temperatures, sizes, dimensions, etc) so if you’re still having trouble finding one, I’d love to point you in the right direction.
I’m open for discussion and love helping others, so leave your questions and comments below!
Cheers and I’ll see you asap!
That’s a long haul reviewing 20 Best Double Sleeping Bags 2018. I like the Wildhorn King Cove 30°F Premium Double Sleeping Bag, not of its look and feel but because this is washable. If it is the most comfortable, versatile and stylish sleeping bag, then why not own it.

You have reviewed some great bags here !
I can remember not that long ago you had 4 or 5 choices in sleeping bags and now you have all these
wonderful choices ! I will be needing two bags for the upcoming fall hunting season !
Got ya bookmarked !
Thanks
Mike
Yeah, and double sleeping bags weren’t even existent not long ago either.
Cheers for the bookmark, do let me know if you need any more help my friend 🙂
I am so glad you chose to add weight in relation to choosing a sleeping bag! I am an avid hiker and the weight of the sleeping back is equal in terms of importance to everything else! After a 5-10 mile hike with pots, pans, and other commodities, you want a lightweight sleeping bag that can cover all your bases.
I recommend the “Canway Double Sleeping Bag Flannel Sleeping Bag” – the weight is perfect, the size is perfect, and you aren’t paying extra for reduced temperatures. 99% of people wont be camping under the freezing temperature, and this sleeping bag covers the temperature range up until that freezing point.
Great Post!
Not a problem at all Andrew.
Like you, I know how important it is to know the exact dimensions and weight so I know how beneficial it would be to others in the same boat as us.
I’m glad you found one you liked; that is a great sleeping bag you chose too!
Good luck on your future trips and I hope to see you around here more often 😀
Wow, this is great! I used to go camping lots as a young girl and sadly haven’t done it for quite some time but seeing that there are so many great double sleeping bags to choose from is wonderful I agree with you I too gravitate toward Teton Sports Cascade Double Sleeping Bag or the Winterial double mummy as it would all be about warmth and cuddling up to keep warm for me. I also enjoy how you put this website together and again that clickable button is a great idea. I have learned so much from your post thank you for sharing this great website.
No worries Energyess. I’m just happy to share my knowledge about the outdoors with like-minded people who love doing what I love to do 🙂 Your kind words mean a lot so thank you very much 😀
The Colossal Winter Double Sleeping Bag is definitely my favorite! My husband and I have been planning a camping trip for the past few months but we thought camping during winter is not very likely because we reckon it’s going to be hard. But, these are warm, can be packed easily and huge! Definitely a top option for us!
Winter camping is definitely hard and a huge challenge if you’re up for it. However, you need a lot of experience in the camping field and more than a likely a camping buddy who has already done winter camping before, because there’s chances for things to go badly wrong.
Although don’t be scared to try it out because it’s a totally different ball game. You will need a very warm sleeping bag that’s high quality to last a long time, and most of these make the cut my friend 🙂
Wow – I had no idea that double sleeping bags even existed! Seem like a nice and cozy option for couples :). The one with the blue pillows is my favorite! Not much of a camper myself, but I will share with my camping friends!
Hello Christen. That one is called the Outdoorsman Lab Double Sleeping Bag, which is a great seller since it has high value for money, lots of features while being lightweight for the price.
Hi, the #12 Big Agnes sounds perfect for the wife and I. Not that we are big people but our Mastiff is just a big, big baby and prefers to guard from the middle. The mummy styling will keep her on top and still provide plenty of leg room for me. All the bags you reviewed are great, and like you said, balance the use, quality and price for the best bag. We currently just take a few quilts and make do, maybe now is the time to upgrade!
The Big Agnes Unisex Dream Island is AMAZING at keeping you warm in below freezing temperatures, and I like the fact that you can use that extra space for your dog to sleep.
Great stuff Sanders and good luck on your camping trip.
Good to know! Thank you for the reviews! My family and I were camping a few weeks ago with only single sleeping bags so we tried to unzip them and connect them, haha, didn’t turn out very well! Glad I saw this for the next time we go camping!
That won’t work well if the sleeping bags aren’t designed for it Holly, lol but nice try. Definitely invest in a real double sleeping bag and you can’t go wrong.
Amazing information, thank you 🙂
I am a big fan of camping, and your post give the the necessary information.
I will visit you website regularly.
Best wishes,
George
Thank you George.
What a thorough research. The reviews are very informative and well-organized. I will definitely buy one of these for the next camping season, though not sure which one yet. Such a big variety to choose from.. Thank you for all the useful information.
If you have no idea which one to choose, I recommend the TETON Sports Tracker since it’s the most versatile on this list.
Good luck my friend and don’t hesitate to contact me again if you still need help.
Thanks, Brandon. for doing all the work to put this into one post. Very valuable info!
I learned a lot from reading the descriptions.
I didn’t even know there are different ratings for sleeping bags – survival rating and comfortable rating!
I think I want to go with a sleeping bag that has an inner part that I can unzip and wash easily. I don’t like having to wash a huge bag!
Does one of these sleeping bags have all of these features?
Velcro straps to keep the zippers closed
Interior pockets for valuables
Removable inner lining
Not mummy-style (I like lotsa leg room)
Survival rating at 20 degrees
Thanks for your help!
Laura
Well actually, manufacturers only give you the survival rating and buyers THINK it is the comfort rating but that is simply not the case, causing them to purchase it and be left freezing cold because they didn’t know what the rating actually meant. I go more in-depth on temperature ratings here.
And yes, the sleeping bag you described is the ANCHEER 210T Sleeping Bag, however, it does not have the removable liner but fits your description really well 🙂 Good luck Laura!
