GEERTOP Backpacking Tent for 2 Person 4 Season Camping Tent

The Best Cold Weather Camping Tent for 2020

Posted on December 12, 2016January 22, 2020 by Brandon

Last modified on January 22nd, 2020

What is the best tent for cold weather camping? There are a wide range of camping tents on the market, however that does not mean they are all up to everyone’s expectations, or that they are going to work as intended.

A lot of people have different experiences, EVEN with the same tent. So why is this so common amongst thousands of tents? Well it’s simple.

Not all tent that have come from the manufacturers are going to be 100%, a few might have been rushed, while others could have totally slipped through Quality Control.

Hence why there’s a lot of products that have great reviews, but a small number of people talking about how bad their tent was (where it leaked, the zipper broke in the first week, etc).

But you have to remember, there are thousands of tents being shipped everyday, and only a few of them have these defects.

So the good, and well-made tents are still outweighing the bad ones, it is just pure luck whether you will get a tent that has defect or not.

The tents outlined below are the ones that stood out to me the most. They have earned a great deal of stars and they have almost no buyers complaining about getting one with a defect in it.

Without further ado, let’s get right into it.

1. ALPS Mountaineering Tasmanian 3

ALPS Mountaineering Tasmanian 3-Person Tent, Copper/Rust

Product Overview

Weight: 9 lbs. 4 oz

Occupancy: 2-person

Pole Material Type: Aluminum

Description: This freestanding tent is designed for 4 season use and has an emphasis on the amount of features it provides.

The poles are made up of 7000 series aluminium (these work incredibly well in strong winds).

This tent also comes with a full-coverage rain fly and contains 2 vestibule areas, these work amazingly well for when you need extra room to store your gear – extra large of course!

You will find 2 doors located on this tent, one at each end. The manufacturers are claiming the zippers on this tent to be extra large and highly durable, so when you slide them, they work like a breeze every single time.

They also say that you can rely on this tent all-year round, no matter what conditions you’re camping in.

 SEMOO Tent- D-Shape DoorProduct Overview

The tents material consists of a strong polyester coating, ensuring you, your friends/family and all your inventory stays bone dry even in the roughest conditions.

There is a D-shaped door that provides maximum room to easily get in and out.

While the large mesh windows allow for excellent ventilation, as well as a great view (helping you keep safe from insects and pests).

The frame consists of durable fiberglass poles and has no problems with standing up in strong winds. The hooded front vestibule also gives you that extra protection from the rain.

It comes available with 19 pegs and 6 windproof guy lines to combat the strong winds even further.

This tent also includes many storage pockets and other great features to maximize convenience.

3. GEERTOP Waterproof Dome Backpacking Tent

GEERTOP Backpacking Tent for 2 Person 4 Season Camping TentProduct Overview

Weight: 5 lbs. 7 oz

Pole Material Type: Aluminum

Description: The GEERTOP Waterproof Dome Backpacking Tent contains a free standing design. This tent also has 2 entrances, making it easier to hop in and out of it, especially for midnight pit stops 🙂

This specific design on the doors and windows make great ventilation abilities, while the windows can be popped up to allow extra ventilation for when it’s raining.

The wall panels are enhanced with thermal material, making it capable of camping in harsh winter conditions as well.

This tent contains many features, some of them include: storage pockets, light hook, snow skirt for snow camping, just to name a few.

Due to the triangle aluminum tent pegs, it makes it easier for the tent to stand up in tough winds. It also comes with reflective windproof ropes to combat the common hazard (where everyone trips over them).

The zippers are located on both sides of the tent so you can up and close it from any side of the tent you’re on.

Basically, this tent works extremely well in all 4 seasons, even though it’s lightweight, it is still strong and high quality.

They say that it’s strong and durable, contains plenty of space and versatility, doesn’t break the bank, AND still being good enough for all 4 seasons.

Since it’s a 4-season tent, it can withstand harsh wind conditions, in addition to rain, snow, and dirt.

They are claiming this tent to stand strong even in the roughest conditions. This claim seems to be true, as many people who have purchased it has agreed.

It has a cross aluminum pole design, this is what helps it in tough winds.

This tent contains waterproof sealant around the edge of the tent to ensure no rain will get inside, keeping you and your equipment bone dry.

5. Marmot Thor 2P

marmot-thor-2p

Product Overview

Weight: 8 lbs. 38 oz

Occupancy: 2 Person

Pole Material Type: Aluminum

Description: This tent is incredibly well-made, as the manufacturers have taken their time to map out the design and how it’s going to function.

It contains 2 D-shaped doors, a full coverage fly, ensuring no rain will make its way into the tent. The rain fly includes vents as well.

Unlike other tents on the market, this one actually comes with reflective guy lines so you don’t trip over them during the night.

It features a 38 ft living space, which I find to be more than enough room for 2 people. The vestibule area also has its own pole to allow extra room for your equipment.

I find that it is really big for a 2 person tent (bigger than usual anyway).

Furthermore, this tent has a lot of features.

Some of my favorite include:

  • A window through the fly so you can see the outside world
  • Snap buckles for the rain fly, so you don’t need to stake down the whole rain fly – just the vestibule
  • The windows on top of the tent that provides even more ventilation
  • And (for obvious reasons), 2 doors on both sides of the tent 🙂

Conclusion

As with all Amazon products, you could get one that isn’t made as good as the next one.

This is luck though, just like I mentioned above. You won’t ALWAYS get a great product, and this doesn’t just apply to Amazon either.

Even with products you buy in stores, there are a small number of them that haven’t been created as good as the one next to it.

But luckily with Amazon, all tents (well any outdoor equipment for that matter) have a 30 day return policy.

And that is exactly why they have given us this policy, just in case you DO get one with a defect.

You can send the tent back for a repair, otherwise you can get a full refund if you choose to, it is completely up to you.

Other than that, this small problem shouldn’t get in the way of the vast amount of fun you will get as you hang out with friends and family in the great outdoors.

Because you will create unforgettable memories while creating a huge bond between you and your loved ones that will become unbreakable 🙂

If you’re wondering what tent is truly the best one (out of the 5 top mentioned above), I will be giving my honest opinion on my favorite one below and explaining WHY it is the best.

Final Recommendation

To be honest, this one comes down to personal preference.

BUT..however.. I will say that the GEERTOP Waterproof Dome Backpacking Tent is a good choice for you if you want to go backpacking, due to the minimal weight it has (5.7 pounds).

Otherwise, if you are looking to go camping, whether that may be car camping, motorcycle camping or anything similar, your best choice would be to go for the ALPS Mountaineering Tasmanian 3 – why?

Because simply, it is extremely well-made and has no problems with extreme weather conditions (such as the rain, wind, snow).

Furthermore, it is from ALPS, they specialize in tents that will withstand mountain conditions.

I have no hesitation in recommending this product. Not to mention that it includes a bunch of handy features to maximize convenience while you’re out and about in Mother Nature.

That is my recommendation, however they are ALL still viable options, and the one that you should choose is the one that fits your price range.

You should also keep the occupancy amount in mind too.

It has the vestibule area for your equipment, but if you don’t want to sleep too close to the person next to you, #2 on the list might be a better choice since it can house 4 people.
