Coleman 8 Person Tenaya Lake Fast Pitch Cabin Tent Review

Posted on July 16, 2017 by Brandon

I have purchased many tents in the past that claimed to stand in tough winds and keep the rain out without fail.

But that seemed to be a lie when the so-called “amazing tent” blew over in the wind and became flooded.

I don’t want the same fate happening to you, so I will be finding the real quality of the Coleman 8 Person Tenaya Lake Fast Pitch Cabin Tent and writing down my full review in this article.

Should you get this tent or continue searching for another alternative?

Well let’s get started and find out what we’re getting ourselves into first!

Great Design But Poor Quality

Summary:

So for the most part, this tent can handle strong winds and hold the rain out without a problem. But on the other hand, the low quality materials mean it will not last long. Many users have found parts to break before even pitching it or taking it out camping! This tent is more recommended.

Coleman 8 Person Tenaya Lake Fast Pitch Cabin Tent with Closet

 Pros Cons
  • Has a lot of features not found on many other tents. The room divider and built-in closet are my favorites
  • Fast and easy to pitch due to the pre-attached poles. This can be done in literally 9 minutes, even with one person!
  • Really big inside and actually larger than comparable Coleman tents in the same price range
  • Holds up like a brick house (not literally). It can handle winds of up to 60 MPH and gusts stronger than that
  • Keeps the rain out without a problem – even in a torrential downpour
  • The construction is very poor. You’ll be taking a gamble whether you will get a good one or not
  • Poles have known to snap (not from wind either), the fabric rips easy and the seams come loose

What Is This Tent?

Due to the massive interior space, you can bring all the luxuries from home without taking up too much room.

Coleman 8 Person Tenaya Lake Fast Pitch Cabin Tent with Closet (6)

There is a built in closet with shelves and hanger bar, which makes storing your equipment/boots/clothing a breeze.

For the most part, it is fast and easy to setup since it has pre-attached, color-coded poles, fast fit feet, and insta-clip suspension, meaning you can pitch this tent in literally 9 minutes – which is MUCH faster than other 8-person Coleman tents that don’t contain any of these features.

The floors are welded and the seams are inverted, making this tent 75% more water-resistant as a result.

Furthermore, the reflective guylines allow you to see the tent and its surroundings – eliminating tripping hazards.

There is a room divider and easily enough room for two queen-sized air mattresses.

If all that wasn’t enough, this tent packs into a “wheeled” carry bag! It’s much easier to transport and stow away as a result of this great feature.

Key Features

Large “Hinged” Door – Sadly, there is only one door, but luckily it is “hinged” and incredibly big. This typical style makes entering and exiting the tent a breeze, especially when you’re camping with a lots of friends and family!

Built-In Closet – The closet provides adequate storage. There are built-in shelves and even hanger bars – which is best used for equipment and clothing

Closet View – Outside The Tent

Closet View – Inside The Tent

9-minute Setup – This tent can be pitched 9 minutes with one person and probably even faster after some practice. This typical system means it’s 55% faster to erect than comparable Coleman tents

WeatherTec System – The WeatherTec System simply means all seams are inverted and the floors are welded, ensuring absolutely NO water makes its way into the tent

Stargazing Opportunities – Because the roof is made entirely of mesh, you can remove the rain fly and sleep under the stars. Talk about bonding time with the kids!

Rain Fly – The rain fly is included in the purchase and covers the entire roof. There’s no need for it to cover the sides of the tent because all of that has already been waterproofed

Bonuses

Room Divider – Make camping with others much easier than it has to be. Divide the tent into two different rooms, you’ll finally be able to get privacy from the kids 🙂

Reflective Guylines – No more tripping up as you get out for a midnight pit stop

E-port – This electrical port is useful if you’re backyard camping or where you have access to electrical power. Bring your TV and other electronics into the tent at night and really enjoy your time in the outdoors

Wheeled Carry Bag – Because this tent is so heavy (35.36 pounds in fact), Coleman provide a massive carry bag that can be wheeled around for easier transportation

Is This Tent Unique?

Most definitely. Until this day I haven’t reviewed a tent that contains the built-in storage closet. What an amazing and useful feature for big families!

I also like the wheeled carry bag. It seems Coleman wanted to make a tent that’s really unique, one with many features that nobody has thought of doing yet, and they’ve done a mighty fine job at it too.

Who Should Buy This Tent?

A big family or a group of friends will like what this tent offers.

However, that’s not to say that a couple or small family won’t find it to work for them, because it absolutely will – especially if you want maximum livability.

If you want something big and non-original, the Coleman 8 Person Tenaya Lake Fast Pitch Cabin Tent is the best way to go.

Where Can I Buy?

This tent can be purchased from Amazon.com.

In addition to the 30-day return policy (from Amazon), the manufacturers are also offering 1-year limited warranties.

All repairs will be done completely free of charge with the policy and warranty.

And if you don’t like your product, you can get a full refund for your purchase, which is with the 30-day return policy.

However, after the 30 days is up, you can’t get your money back – only free repairs for 1 year.

Do I Recommend This Tent?

In all honesty, I would not purchase this tent.

Why?

Just over half of the users have found it to work as claimed to on the product page, while the rest are all complaining about it ripping even after being really careful with it.

The poles bend and snap in the wind, and sometimes when you’re just setting it up!

In addition; the seams come loose and begin leaking in the rain.

You might get lucky and receive one that’s actually going to do all the things that the manufacturers claim it to do, but when you’re paying for something this high, you’ll be better off moving to something better.

This tent is not recommended!

Alternative/Similar Tents

One tent that’s ACTUALLY worth your money and time is the Coleman 8 Person Instant Tent. It can be pitched in a much faster time (2 minutes), is much better constructed so it doesn’t break like the Tenaya Lake and still large enough for friends and family.

The Coleman Red Canyon is another good 8-person tent but contains 2 room dividers instead of 1, making it a 3-room tent. The Red Canyon keeps the rain out without fail, it’s very large, and can fit 3 queen-sized air mattresses! The only downside; it takes longer to pitch.

My Final Opinion

You’ll simply be wasting your money if you purchase the Coleman 8 Person Tenaya Lake Fast Pitch Cabin Tent.

For a tent in this price, it should perform much better than what it currently has been for the many users who have used it.

Don’t get me wrong here, you might actually get one that’s constructed better than the others.

Some of these tents have known to last for years, while others have broken and ripped before being pitched.

It’s not worth taking a gamble when you’re paying for a tent this high in price.

NOT RECOMMENDED! Move on to something better.

Thanks for taking the time to read my review!
