Coleman Elite Montana 8-Person Tent

Coleman Elite Montana 8 Tent Review

Posted on July 4, 2018January 24, 2020 by Brandon

Last modified on January 24th, 2020

Coleman are a good brand but they do have their fair share of garbage tents, which I’ve reviewed in the past and provided my opinion on them.

I’m not trying to bash on Coleman, but what I am doing is being truthful because that’s what I like to see when I’m looking for products to purchase.

This one is no different, as this is my honest and unbiased Coleman Elite Montana 8 Person Tent review.

In this article you will discover the features, the quality and it how it REALLY performs in the wild.

Enjoy, fellow camp goers!

Feature-packed at a great price
  • Functionality
  • Waterproof
  • Strength
  • Value
4.5

Summary:

This tent is packed with features other tent don’t offer and stays affordable for what it offers. It has lots of room for a large family, keeps rain out with ease and has stargazing opportunities for hot summer nights. A great tent that’s not too pricey nor too cheap.

ELITE MONTANA™ 8-PERSON LIGHTED TENT

 Pros  Cons
  • Many useful features designed specifically for “glampers” (glamorous/luxury campers)
  • Fast and easy to setup thanks to the color-coded poles and continuous pole sleeves, which only needs 1 person to pitch
  • It is waterproof as many users have found out firsthand
  • Holds 3 queen-sized air mattresses!
  • The quality and construction is good for the price
  • The velcro holding the door doesn’t always fit well
  • No way to keep the door open, which is bad in hot weather. One way to combat this is by removing the rain fly and exposing the mesh ceiling

The Rundown

The Coleman Elite Montana 8 Person Tent sleeps 8 adults and sets up in less than 15 minutes after some practice.

The dome design allows for good defense in strong winds a large interior space.

The door is hinged and not what traditional tents offer. This allows a more luxury feel instead of “roughing it”.

It contains many features to amplify the outdoor experience.

My favorite being the LED tent light…which has high, low and nightlight modes and an awning for keeping safe from the elements.

It includes patented welded flooring and inverted seams for good protection against ground moisture and rain splashes.

The angled windows promote air flow even in light rain, which is something the competition lacks.

The privacy panels for the windows can be left opened or closed depending on your needs and circumstances (raining, nighttime, etc).

ELITE MONTANA™ 8-PERSON LIGHTED TENT (2)

Three queen-sized air mattresses fits inside and interior storage pockets keep your important items safe, off the floor and close at hand.

And if all that wasn’t enough, remove the rain fly on warm nights and view the stars as you drift off to sleep!

Key Features

  • An LED light sits above your head to illuminate the tent and provides an even glow throughout. The nightlight mode helps kids sleep
  • A wall switch activates the LED light to maximize convenience
  • The door awning makes for a dry entry and exit while providing a safe place to sit out of the elements if need be
  • Hinged door creates a more inviting feel and easy thoroughfare which is always nice when camping with others
  • Auto-roll angled windows keeps air circulating in light rain (highly important)
  • The ground vent increases air flow even more to stop condensation build up
  • Interior storage pockets ensure valuables are safe and off the floor
  • The e-port powers your electrical devices

Who Should Buy This Tent?

It is large enough for a large family without being too squishy and even better for a medium-sized family because who doesn’t want more room, right?

It is also good for a group of friends who just want to go and enjoy a weekend getaway, as it’s simply massive and doesn’t skimp on space.

So basically, it’s good for anyone that wants a more luxury feel because it does offer those exclusive glamping features.

Some common combinations include:

  • 2 people + 1 queen air mattress + dog + gear
  • 3 people + 2 queen air mattresses + dog + child + gear
  • 4 people + 2 queen air mattresses + dog + gear
  • 5 people + 3 queen air mattresses + dog + no gear
  • 6 people + 3 queen air mattresses + no gear
  • 8 people + sleeping pads + no gear

Where Can I Buy?

Once place I highly recommend getting this tent from is Amazon.com.

They’ve got the fastest deliveries, the best prices (always), the best customer service and an unbeatable 30-day return policy!

Simply return the tent for a refund, no questions asked, or get a repair if you experience any defects within those first 30 days.

Coleman also provide a 1-year limited warranty!

Do I Recommend The Coleman Elite Montana 8 Person Tent?

There’s reports of parts not arriving and causing people to give it bad reviews (although a very small chance for this to happen).

They give it bad reviews out of frustration, however, that is no way to review a product you haven’t even used!

If you get this tent, definitely check that everything is in the box straight away because other buyer are opening it before their trip only to find it unusable due to missing parts.

The only real big issues I found with this tent is the door, which cannot hold open during hot days and the door velcro, which doesn’t always fit correctly.

Other than that everyone loves the LED lighting system, even the people giving it negative reviews!

It may not be the best 8-person tent on the market for the price, however, it is definitely one of my top 8-person tents reviewed thus far.

It’s in an affordable price range, has minor cons and a good amount of luxury features.

The Coleman Elite Montana 8 Person Tent is highly recommended!

Alternative/Similar Products

The Elite Montana 8 does have it’s cons and if you’re worried about the door, the Coleman Elite WeatherMaster Tent is an alternative you’ll enjoy.

It is a little more expensive and only houses 6 people, but this one has no problems with the door and even has a screened off porch area!

If you still want an 8-person tent, I do recommend the Coleman 8 Person Instant Tent.

It pitches in 60 seconds flat, has a door that ties back and lots of windows for the best air flow in hot climates!

My Final Opinion

This is one of the better 8-person tents I’ve reviewed on my site, and that is a big deal.

Others have had too many cons and made them almost unusable. I did not feel that way with the Coleman Elite Montana.

It is not too cheap nor overpriced, it is just a good price with good construction and features.

I enjoyed reviewing this tent and hope to see more similar, because the LED light is rare to find and I’m a big fan of them just like everyone else is!

The Coleman Elite Montana is highly recommended due to the many reasons talked about above!

Cheers.

    Hi Brandon,

Nice review of the Coleman Elite Montana 8 tent. Sounds like a perfect choice for a family wanting to camp. I really like the idea of the LED lighting system which could be useful for kids or simply finding your way around at night.
    Thanks for this informative post.

The lighting system is SO valuable and the reason why it’s becoming more popular. Lots of tents are having this feature and not just family tents but smaller/solo tents too!

Thanks Brandon for an honest review. And a appreciate that you made your own video and how it shows it relevance in size when you were in it. I have to be honest, I haven’t been in a tent in over twenty years, and they sure have come a long way. I have been thinking about getting one now that the nights are getting cooler and longer as we all like to build campfires a lot this time of year. I like its size, cutting down on claustrophobic issues that may arise, and the openings. And it has lights!! I didn’t know tents have come this far, so I’m gonna check out more of your reviews, but still, compared to what I’ve been in, which has been a long time, this one is nice. Thanks again for your review.

It’s a very nice tent and the SECOND most luxurious tent Coleman has to offer, which offers more living space than the most luxurious Coleman tent which only houses 6 people and more expensive, and that is the Coleman Elite WeatherMaster Tent.

So the Coleman Elite Montana is a perfect alternative if you don’t want to go the expensive route but still want the features!
