Eureka Midori 2 Tent Review

Posted on February 18, 2017 by Brandon

Due to the large amount of bad tents on the market, there’s a high chance the manufacturers aren’t being as honest with their tents as much as they should be.

Why is this?

For the simple fact that they KNOW their tents aren’t the best but they will still try and sell it with all these outrageous claims.

But of course, the claims fail to deliver.

This is my Eureka Midori 2 Tent review, and in this article I’m going to debunk all the feedback this tent has been given over the years and compile everything I find about it in this post.

Definitely Worth The Money!
  • Functionality
  • Waterproof

  • Worth The Price?
4.5

Summary:

It’s a solid tent that can withstand harsh rainstorms. It has been found to perform incredibly well in heavy downfall (will not let water inside the tent) and won’t budge in high winds either. Furthermore, it contains a V3 system for better usability and a strut pole to heighten the vestibule room, increasing overall volume. However, the stakes are low quality and will bend when used multiple times on hard ground.

Eureka Midori 2 Tent

 Pros  Cons
  • The vestibule room is bigger than usual, creating a cooking area in rainy weather
  • Very waterproof! Even with heavy rain, no leaks can get through the rain fly
  • The walls are 80% mesh material, making this tent lightweight (4.7 pounds) and providing the best ventilation
  • Sturdy construction makes it stand strong in high winds. Many users have found it to perform as promised
  • The zippers glide and perform better than other tents; no snags whatsoever
  • Extremely easy to set up. It can be done in literally 5 minutes, and even less if you’re an avid tent pitcher
  • There is no protection against the cold or fog due to the mesh material
  • The strut pole can get in the way when trying to compact the tent down. This is because it is permanently fixed to the rain fly
  • The stakes included will bend when using them on hard ground (after a few uses)

Product Description

It has mostly been described as a backpacking tent and can sleep 2 people, maximum.

It contains an advanced V3 system. The V3 system enhances the livability for the tent, providing the best ventilation, volume, and even end-user versatility. They do it by maximizing all the features, such as: tent body, fly, frame, and guy-out design.

V3 system diagram

The rain fly stretches all the way out – creating a “vestibule” room to hold your gear. Furthermore, the vestibule area makes it easier for the rain to stay out.

Because the fly has good UV-ray resistance, it doesn’t get damaged by the sun, nor does it stretch/rip in wet-weather conditions.

This tent contains a freestanding design and shockcorded aluminum poles with an all-clip feature as well. All of this makes it much easier to set the tent up and take down.

It also offers FULL mesh walls for awesome ventilation. However, if you decide to leave the rain fly off during the summer time, your view of the night sky is very limited, due to the panel at the very center of the ceiling blocking your view.

Eureka Midori 2 Tent without rain fly

There is a hooded fly “vent” located at the top of this tent too. It is fully adjustable, giving you the option to have cold air coming in to the tent. Otherwise you can close it and keep warm air coming in.

Key Features

  • V3 system – The V3 system adds much more livability to the entire tent. It puts an emphasis on ventilation, versatility, and volume
  • Factory Sealed Seams – Even though a lot of tents have their tents sealed from factory, there are still a large amount of tents that do not. And the Eureka Midori 2 Tent DOES have this feature already
  • Strut Poles – The strut poles are located at the end of the vestibule room, lifting it up and creating a larger space for all your equipment (9.7 Sq. ft!)
  • Double Wall Construction – This gives you a little more protection against the elements, stopping cold air from seeping through the material and making you feel cold
  • Lightweight – It is on the lighter side of 2 person tents. Sitting at 4.7 pounds makes it a viable option for backpacking. To make it even lighter; split the weight up between 2 people

Bonuses

  • Interior Pockets – The 2 pockets located on the inside of the tent make it easier to keep your smaller items close at handEureka Midori 2 Tent interior pocket
  • Gear Loft – A gear loft is included in the purchase as well. This is completely free; while it measures at 25″ x 12″
  • Advanced Guy Points – Due to the V3 system, there are external guy points on the rain fly, making it much more secure and capable of handling high winds a lot easier

What I Like

I like the strut poles that is used to increase the floor space of the vestibule area.

The double wall construction was also one of those features that caught my eye. You don’t find this typical design on many tents, making it very close to a 3+ season tent!

What I Don’t Like

The panel that’s in the center of the ceiling blocks about 50% of your sky view when your remove the rain fly, making your stargazing opportunities very limited.

Who Should Buy This Tent?

If you’re an avid backpacker, I have no doubts that you’ll enjoy all the benefits that this tent has to offer.

Even a user that was 6’1″ and 300 lbs was able to fit inside this tent. There was also enough room for someone else to go in it as well.

So if you’re that size or under, then you’ll most likely find this tent to work for you too.

Best Place To Buy?

The best place to purchase the Eureka Midori 2 Tent is from Amazon.com. They have fast deliveries AND free deliveries for all orders made to the US.

Furthermore, they back your tent up with a 30-day return policy.

You can return the tent for a full refund; for any reason at all, while you can get a repair if you find a defect/fault in the product. This is with EVERY product from Amazon, not just tents.

The price usually sits between $120-$170.

This changes all the time though, so it is best to see the current price first.

Do I Recommend This Tent?

Due to the high amount of pros I found for the Eureka Midori 2 Tent, and for the simple fact that it performs a lot better than other tents in the same price range, I would have give it an easy YES!

Even though there are some cons, they are really minor and they do not interfere with how well it performs in the wilderness, as it combats heavy rain and strong winds extremely well.

The Eureka Midori 2 Tent is highly recommended!

Alternative Tent

There’s a tent with better stakes if you find that these ones will be no good for you, especially if you plan on camping in areas that contain hard ground. It is much cheaper but also has weaker flooring material, while it’s also heavier and more recommended for car camping. Check out my review on the ALPS Mountaineering Taurus 2 Tent.

If you want a tent that offers better stargazing opportunities, the Kelty Grand Mesa 2 Tent has all-mesh walls and a mesh ceiling as well. Even though the vestibule area isn’t as big, there’s still enough space available for 2 backpacks and boots.

My Final Opinion

I like what the Eureka Midori 2 Tent has to offer.

It contains a bunch of extra features that you won’t find on many other tents, such as the V3 enhancing system and the strut poles.

Some of you probably won like the strut poles, especially if you want to compact the tent down as much as possible. However, due to this feature, the vestibule room is 9.7 Sq. ft and provides more than enough room for 2 peoples gear.

The cons are extremely minor and the entire tent performs tremendously well in a rain storm.

For those reasons, and all the others that I have mentioned throughout this review, I’m going to give the Eureka Midori 2 Tent a BIG THUMBS UP! cartoon thumbs up

Great review Brandon!…you stated the pros and cons early o’ clock….easy to make an informed decision at a glance. In this day and age where we want things fast and time is of essence I like the fact that it can be set up in 5 minutes!..that’s awesome.

I’m here to help you make a better decision, Ravi, so it makes me happy that you found it useful 🙂 There are a lot of tents that can be pitched in 5 minutes actually. But 99% of the time you have to know what you’re doing to get it assembled that quickly.

And an avid camper should definitely have no issues in getting this tent up fast.

      Good luck,
      Brandon

Thank you Laure. That’s because it is extremely well-built, correct. And the lightweight of it makes it a no-brainer, ESPECIALLY if you’re going backpacking. I appreciate the comment and the share, so thanks a bunch 😀

      Take care,

Hello Brandon, thanks for a balanced review of the Eureka Midori 2 tent. As you said in your post manufacturers are not necessarily truthful about their products. They have made it, and they desire to sell it. Having someone who have used the product can certainly help if one is interested in using this item. I know for myself I would rather buy something I am interested in on a recommendation from a user than just the seller.

It seems to be good value for money, light weight and spacious. Watching the video, I was sure that guy was not going to ‘fit in it’, but he did fully stretched out. Looking at it from the outside it seems deceptively small. However it is roomy. For camping lovers, in the warmer weather, this could be it.

      Thanks buddy.

You are correct. That is the main reason why a lot of people search up reviews, because companies exaggerate the “goodness” of their tent, when you and I know that they aren’t being 100% truthful.

I agree with you as well, it is definitely good value for money. That’s why Eureka is such a well-known and trusted brand, because they almost ALWAYS create top quality tents, while a lot of them are known to last for many years.

I’m glad you found my review helpful, EJ.

      Cheers,
      Brandon

    Nice looking tent!
Thanks for sharing this. Does it have another color? Also, Do you know any warm sleeping bags that I can pair with this? You mentioned that this is not great for cold weather because it doesn’t protect you from it.

    Thanks in advance!

      Thanks bud.

No it does not, sadly. Since it’s quite bright, it won’t be a good choice if you’re trying to camouflage yourself in with the wilderness – unless you’re camping in or near snow. If you want a sleeping bag that will DEFINITELY keep you warm, the Suisse Sport Everest Sleeping Bag is a great choice.

      And you’re welcome 🙂
