The 5 Best Pop Up Tents for Tall People

Posted on July 31, 2017 by Brandon

A common complaint I hear from individuals that go camping (well the tall people anyway), is the fact that they can not find a tent to fit in comfortably and effortlessly.

I want to provide the very best pop up tents for tall people, so YOU can have your comfort you so-deserve while in the great outdoors.

Note: Pop up tents are not designed for heavy rain. If you want highly waterproof tents, these are a much better choice for you.

The Best Pop Up Tents For Tall People

1. TuTu Outdoors X-large Instant 5-6 Person Pop Up Dome Tent

2017 Newest TuTu Outdoors X-large Instant 5-6 Person Pop Up Dome Tent with Skywindow-Durable Portable Easy Up Shelter with 12 Stakes & Carrying Bag, Ideal for Family Camping-114.2''L78.5''W51.2''H

This pop up tent is designed for 5-6 people. I chose to include it in this list because it’s EXTREMELY spacious for tall people.

The folded out dimensions are 9.5 x 6.5 feet, making this an easy viable option.

To get this tent pitched, it’s just a matter of throwing it up in the air and watching it unfold right before your eyes!

There are no poles to fumble around with.

Some more features include:

  • Mesh windows on both sides of the tent along with a skylight window
  • Interior storage pockets with hang loop (hang your lantern of flashlight off of)
  • Uniquely designed. This tent is visually appealing in more ways than one

Item Weight – 7.7 pounds

Floor Size – 9.5 x 6.5 feet

Peak Height – 4.2 feet

Packed Dimensions – 41.3 x 41.3 x 1.2 inches

2. Beach Cabana Automatic Instant Setup Pop Up Tent

Pop Up Tent Beach Cabana Automatic Instant Setup Water Resistant Ventilation and Anti-UV for 2-3 Person for Camping Sun Shelter

This tent is a very nice green, but something else that caught my eye was the floor dimensions, which are 7.8 x 5.9 feet.

Not digging the green? That’s completely fine, because there are blue and light blue color options available!

Furthermore, it can be pitched just by unfolding and extending.

There are no poles or other additional components needed for it to be used as intended, landing this at #2 on my list.

Some more features include:

  • Instant set up, so it can be pitched in seconds
  • Great ventilation with the two doors and two windows
  • Makes a great playhouse for the kids
  • Mesh material to block out mosquitoes

Item weight – 5 pounds

Floor Size – 7.8 x 5.9

Peak Height – 4.1 feet

Packed Dimensions – 31 x 2.7 inches

3. ABCO Sport Pop Up Tent

Pop-up Tent An Automatic Instant Portable Cabana Beach Tent - Suitable For upto 2 People - Doors on Both Sides - Water-resistant & UV Protection Sun Shelter – With Carrying Bag, Sets up in Seconds!

Although this popup tent is similar to the one outlined above, they are still very unique in their own way.

For instance: This one has a peak height of 3.2 but is much lighter if that’s more important to you.

This tent can also be set up in a blink of any eye and makes a great choice for a weekend backpacking trip in the summertime – due to how lightweight it is.

The two doors and two windows provide GREAT cross-breeze ventilation for when the hot summer sun hits you during the day.

Some more features include:

  • Effortless camping
  • High breathability/ventilation
  • Compacts down into a small package
  • Privacy flaps [on all doors and windows] for when you’re in a public campsite

Item Weight – 3.4 pounds

Floor Size – 7.9 x 5.9 feet

Peak Height – 3.2 feet

Packed Dimensions – Unknown

4. FiveJoy Instant 4-Person Pop Up Dome Tent

FiveJoy Instant 4-Person Pop Up Dome Tent - Easy, Automatic Setup - Fast Pitch & Fold into Portable Carrying Case (Includes Stakes), Ideal Shelter for Casual Family Camping, Hiking, Outdoor Festivals

Pitch this tent in a matter of seconds just by unpacking it. It will pop up automatically, making this tent ready-to-go as soon as it arrives.

Because of the simplicity, you don’t even need to look at the instructions!

The main reason why I included this tent in the list was because it has a “multi purpose” feature.

That’s right. You can turn the windows into a rain fly! All you need to do is attach the guy lines to the window flap and then the stakes.

This typical design means you have extra protection from the hot summer sun.

Some more features include:

  • Improved quality, especially with the durable seams and sturdy zippers
  • Available in two colors, Army Green and Camel
  • Zippered screen door and windows
  • Storage pockets and lantern/flashlight hanging loops

Item Weight – 8.3 pounds

Floor Size – 6.7 x  6.5 feet

Peak Height – 3.9 feet

Packed Dimensions – 35.4 x 35.4 x 1 inches

5. Camp Solutions Pop Up Tent Automatic Instant Setup

Camp Solutions Pop Up Tent Automatic Instant Setup Water Resistant Ventilation and Anti-UV for 2-3 Person for Backpacking and Camping

You don’t see purely white tents like this that often. However, that doesn’t mean they aren’t that good, because they are no different than the other tents mentioned.

It can be used for summer camping, festival events, public campsites, and even a kids playhouse.

Just throw this tent up and it will pop up and pitch – within seconds.

The poles are fiberglass, giving it a total weight of 5 pounds, which is pretty lightweight considering how durable it is.

The manufacturers claim that it’s best used as a beach tent or a sun shelter. Either way, it works great for a tall person as the floor size is 7.5 x 5.9 feet.

Some more features:

  • Very lightweight, even a kid can carry it on their shoulders
  • Two very large doors and windows (with privacy panels) for cross ventilation
  • Visually appealing
  • Two storage pockets for valuable items

Item Weight – 5 pounds

Floor Size – 7.5 x 5.9 feet

Peak Height – 3.2 feet

Packed Dimensions – 29 inch diameter

Please keep in mind. NONE of these tents will keep you dry in heavy rain.

Why?

Pop Up tents are designed for summer/casual use and not major backpacking missions or camping where there will be torrential downpours.

Of course they will definitely hold out light showers, but anything worse than that and it will start leaking.

If you need a tent that can actually keep heavy rain out, you’re better off choosing one of these.

And if you’re wondering what tent I like the best out of this list, it is hands down the Beach Cabana Automatic Instant Setup Pop Up Tent.

This is because it has a great design, it looks the part, it’s very durable, and highly affordable! Not to mention the 3 great color options 🙂

Thanks for reading.

I hope you have a wonderful day and you make the right decision to fit your camping trip.

If you need help picking out a tent, I will steer you in the right direction. Just leave your questions in the comments below 🙂

Cheers!

-Brandon

Hi….you have some really good articles. I have a question for you. I am looking for a decent backpacking tent in which I can actually stand in. Is there a tent available where the peak height is say around 6 feet? And enough for at least 2-3 people?

Not as a backpacking tent, no…sorry.

No such tent actually exists. One that DOES pop in to mind is the ALPS Mountaineering Meramac 4 Tent, which is for 4 people and has a 5-foot center height.

If you definitely want a 6-foot center height, you’ll need to go for something bigger, such as the: Kelty Trail Ridge 6 Tent, Eureka Copper Canyon 6 (7-foot), or Wenzel Evergreen Tent.

Take your pick. Hope this helps 🙂

Thanks for the informative review! I actually never knew how pop up tents are different from standard tents. In my experience tents can be pretty heavy and complicated to set up, but these look like they would be very easy to carry and set up quickly. I’m not very tall, but I would definitely still enjoy the spacious design of these!

They are inexpensive and extremely easy to set up but lack weatherproofing, so you choose what is more important to you.

Of course they will and they absolutely do.

Tall people find it difficult finding a tent to suit them so I’m happy to assist in their decision-making.

Being in a tent is always uncomfortable when I’m standing. I just have to bend over at my neck or shoulders and I really hate that when I see others happily standing.
I didn’t know there were smaller taller tents and I like the Fivejoy 4 person personally.

You will still be bending over in the Fivejoy, however, you won’t be squished when sleeping since it has a long length AND width.

Thanks for this overview. Great information and thanks for mentioning that this is only for summer camping. A friend of mine is almost 6,6 feet tall, his wife is 6,1 feet and they have two sons. This family likes camping and they will love this wrapped-up info.

    Brandon,
Any of these would be lighter than my two man tent that I used on my motorcycle back in the 70’s. I still have this tent. I do not ride any more, any of these would be great for light backpacking. This is something I do know. I like the light weight of the Beach Cabana.
I have been wet before in a tent, so that would not be a problem. How hard are they to take down in the morning.

      Hello John.

They are really easy to take down. It can be done just as quickly as putting it up, so roughly 60 seconds.

    Hello Brandon,
This came just right in time. I was looking for the best tent for our next camping and I love the pop-up tents. And yes you are right, tall people (like my husband) are having a little bit of challenge when finding this kind of tent. I still love them still – easy to set up and easy to pack it in again.

Thanks for your great product recommendations. I think I will go after the FiveJoy Instant 4-Person Pop Up Dome Tent. I love the design.

    Best regards,
    Che

The Fivejoy is a great choice for you 🙂

      Have a great day!

Hey there, now i’m not normally one to have tall person problems because i’m only 5ft 8ins in my stocking feet, but I like your article because it addresses a problem and solves it for those with vertical challenges. I’m also very keen on Amazon stores because I have one myself in the UK. Nicely researched and laid out page.

These tents look great! The one drawback that occurred to me was that taller tents = wider tents in all the examples. Are there any examples of tents that work for tall people that aren’t too wide? Thanks in advance!
