Coleman Yarborough Pass 6 Tent

The Coleman Yarborough Pass 6 Tent Has Bad Zippers (REVIEW)

Posted on August 11, 2017February 12, 2020 by Brandon

Last modified on February 12th, 2020

One of my biggest pet peeves in life is getting a tent then finding out it’s not as good as I thought it was.

I know how it feels, and so do you, so let’s not kid around here.

I’m giving you a no BS review on the Coleman Yarborough Pass 6 Tent. I hope you take what I say on board, because I absolutely hate manufacturers that exaggerate the capabilities of their products.

It wastes the customers time and it wastes theirs, so find the true quality by reading my review below.

Enjoy.

Summary:

The outer zipper gets caught on the protective fabric and the door messes with the alignment of the outer zipper and interior zipper. In addition to that, it has bad stakes and difficult instructions! Even though it will keep you dry and stay standing in heavy winds, there are better alternatives in the same price range. The CORE 6 Instant Cabin Tent is definitely one of them.

Coleman Yarborough Pass 6 Tent

 Pros  Cons
  • Contains plenty of room. You can fit 2 queen-sized air mattresses and still have room to spare
  • There are lots of ventilation options – 3 windows, a mesh ceiling, a large D-door, and a ground vent
  • The rain fly provides a high amount of protection against rain and wind, and actually provides more insulation (warmth inside the tent) than conventional tents
  • Stands like a brick house in strong winds and keeps you dry even in a downpour. When I checked the online reviews, there was 0 complaints about the weatherproofing abilities this tent offers
  • The stakes are bad! Get stronger ones to eliminate this con
  • The rods in the door messes with the alignment, creating a number of zipper issues
  • More often than not, the outer zipper gets caught on the protective material
  • There’s a lot of confusion when using the door zipper since it runs parallel with the rod zippers, causing people to pull the wrong one
  • A common complaint about the instructions being hard to follow

The Rundown

This tent uses pre-attached poles that are all color-coded with a hub system.

The snag-free InstaClip suspension means it can be pitched faster than traditional 6-person tents, while the rain fly and floor seams have all been sealed from factory.

The floor ALSO wraps up around the sides and all corners have been welded for ultimate protection against the rain and wind, and of course leaky floors.

There is a total of 3 windows and a mesh panel on the roof, providing a great cross-breeze – and as a result, kills condensation buildup.

Furthermore, the fabric has been described as Durable Polyguard. It is designed to last season after season!

This tent has an advertised setup time of 8 minutes.

Who Should Buy This Tent?

I find that family campers will benefit from the Coleman Yarborough Pass 6 Tent the most, as it’s very roomy and has amazing ventilation in the summer time.

Some common combinations include:

  • 2 people + 1 queen air mattress + gear
  • 3 people + 2 queen air mattresses + gear
  • 4 people + 2 queen air mattresses + gear
  • 5 people + 2 queen air mattresses + minimal gear
  • 5 people + sleeping pads + gear
  • 6 people + 2 queen air mattresses + no gear
  • 6 people + sleeping pads + no gear

Where Can I Buy?

This tent can be purchased from Amazon.com.

They have next-day deliveries, free deliveries to the US, and a very beneficial 30-day return policy.

The 30-day return policy means you can get a full refund, no questions asked.

And if you experience any defects (rips, tears, punctures, broken bits, snapped parts), you can send it back for a repair, free of charge.

Do I Recommend The Coleman Yarborough Pass 6 Tent?

I’d like to mention that this tent IS easy to set up IF you are an avid camper and absolutely know how to pitch a tent.

Newbie campers are discovering that the “fast pitch” feature is not correct at all, while people that camp all the time (the ones that pitch tents multiple times a year) are setting it up in a fast and easy manner.

So that is where the confusion is happening with the setup time and the difficulty level.

It also might be a good idea to place color-coded tape on the zippers so you don’t accidentally open up the window instead of the door.

This will at least eliminate one other con.

However, to be totally honest with you, there are better alternatives in the same price range.

So if you haven’t guessed it already, the Coleman Yarborough Pass 6 Tent is NOT recommended!

Alternative/Similar Products

The CORE 6 never lets me down when I’m counting on it the most. Yes, it does have a problem with the zipper getting stuck on the protective material, but that is it! The stakes are great, it can be set up in literally 60 seconds (which has easy-to-follow instructions), and there is no hinged door to mess with the alignment.

There’s also another tent you may like – the Coleman Evanston Screened Tent. This is one of my favorite 6-person tents because it doesn’t contain ANY of the cons mentioned in this review and has a screened porch area, which has its own flooring material.

My Final Opinion

The Coleman Yarborough Pass 6 Tent definitely stands out to me, there’s no doubts about it.

It has no problems with heavy rain and will stay standing in strong winds, but the high amount of cons I found simply means this tent has got too many flaws, and that worries me.

As you may or may not know, a tent with a busted zipper can ruin the tents purpose entirely.

A tent is designed to keep you safe from the elements, and with a broken zipper, the door will have to stay open. Rain and wind WILL come into the tent.

And then?

You and all your equipment will be soaked.

So what do we do?

Well if I were you, I would stay well-away from this tent and turn my attention more towards the CORE 6 Instant Cabin Tent.

I hope you found this review helpful and you make the right decision for your camping needs.

Leave a comment or question below.

What do YOU think about this tent?

Cheers.
