The Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent Is Very Waterproof (REVIEW)

Posted on October 13, 2017 by Brandon

Thinking of purchasing the Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent?

Slow down cowboy! It might not be up to your standards!

Fortunately for you I am creating a Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent review in this article.

I want to know how it performs in the wild and the overall quality, just like you.

So without further ado, lets begin.

My Personal Take
  • Functionality
  • Waterproof
  • Strength
  • Value
4.7

Summary:

What makes a great tent? One that stands like a brick house in strong winds and doesn’t leak or fall over in brutal winds.

The Eureka Alpenlite 2XT is what you’d expect to see on a $500 tent plus tent, but in fact it is nowhere near that price range. It’s not exactly lightweight, however, it clearly lives up to the expectations without fail.

A great price for a flawless tent – well done Eureka!

Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent 2-Person 4-Season
The Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent 2 – this is what I am reviewing today.
 Pros Cons
  • Offers COMPLETE control with air flow management. Keep cool in warmer climates by leaving the vents open, or keep everything closed in cold areas and stay much warmer
  • Extremely high quality. The rain fly is tough and durable, and the body is rugged. It will last for years if you look after it properly
  • Surprisingly easy to set up. After a few practices you’ll become an expert
  • Performs flawlessly in the rain
  • Doesn’t budge in winds, and withstands brutal gusts!
  • It also keeps you warm in a snowstorm
  • The two vestibules are a little small
  • The weight is heavy compared to the size rating

The Rundown

Eureka claim that this tent “stands toe-to-toe with the big guns” — it can challenge a tent with a higher price and withstand just as much, and oftentimes even more.

It is relatively lightweight, especially for what it offers, and at an exceptional price too.

There are vents on the roof, wall, and vestibule – making this shelter a viable option for all-year-round use.

The StormShield rain fly, taped seams and PU coating offers the best water/snow run-off possible, while the center reinforcement pole helps keep it standing in fierce winds.

There IS a footprint and gear loft included, however, sadly these are sold separately.

Key Features

  • It offers a double-wall design and A-frame layout, capable of withstanding brutal winds
Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent 2-Person 4-Season (2)
The A-frame shape. This typical shape is not commonly used in this day and age. However, if designed correctly it can withstand brutal weather.
  • A boatload of ventilation options. There are 2 vents in the roof, 4 in the walls and 1 in the rain fly
  • Few poles more than traditional tents (DAC pressfit), which is the reason it handles strong winds really well
  • A large vestibule sits at the front of the tent. This is for storing gear. It also has multiple configuration options
  • A smaller vestibule is located at the rear of the tent. This is accessed via a small door
  • The window panel – where the front door is – lets you get a glimpse of the outdoor world even with the rain fly on
  • The interior consists of a wall organizer, loops for a gear loft and a flashlight loop so you can light up the interior

Who Should Buy This Tent?

Anyone who is SERIOUS about taking their camping experiences to the next level should consider purchasing this tent.

It withstands high winds and sheds rain and snow like a boss!

If you’re contemplating a camping trip including any one of these, or all 3 combined, you will really enjoy your time outdoors knowing you’ll be safe inside this shelter.

Some common combinations include:

  • 1 person + gear
  • 1 person + child + gear
  • 1 person + gear + dog
  • 2 adults + gear

Keep in mind: This tent is designed for 2 people only – it’s not going to house a whole family!

Where Can I Buy?

The Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent can be purchased from Amazon.com, and at an extremely reasonable price.

Amazon are well known for their fast deliveries, free shipping and return policy.

They offer a 30-day money-back guarantee, so if you don’t like your purchase you are given a full refund, no questions asked!

All defects and damages will be repaired free of charge as well.

Do I Recommend The Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent?

There are a few complaints about the waterproofing capabilities, however, at the end of the day it comes down to user error in my opinion.

Even if the manufacturers say their tent is factory sealed, you don’t know how long it’s been sitting on the shelf for.

It’s in your best interest to seam seal it before embarking on your journey, then you absolutely KNOW it won’t leak.

You will also find that it’s a 4-season tent. A 4-season tent is designed solely for winter, contrary to the name.

This is a common misconception among newbie camp goers.

They will use it for the summer, get condensation buildup and end up getting soaked as a result.

Then they give their review and call the tent “badly-designed”, when that’s simply not what the problem is.

The problem is that people aren’t using the right tool for the right job.

But you get my point, and if you don’t, you probably shouldn’t get this tent.

So after that little rant, I actually DO highly recommend the Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent.

There are just so many reviewers talking about how good it performs in the field, and I agree with them!

Alternative/Similar Products

The Big Agnes Foidel Canyon 2 is a 3+ season tent. This means it WILL work well in every single season. It’s not a 3-season, nor a 4-season, it falls under the category of being good for any type of camping trip, and I like that.

The Mountain Hardwear Direkt 2 is much lighter and more preferred for you if weight is going to be an issue. It is a little more expensive also, but in my opinion it offers more features.

My Final Opinion

In all honesty, one of the main perks for this tent is the remarkable waterproofing abilities and wind protection.

A tent is suppose to keep you sheltered from the elements, to keep you dry for the duration of the trip while withstanding strong winds.

A lot of tents fail to do so. However, one tent that passes with flying colors is the Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent.

There are so many people talking about how much it keeps them dry and safe from snow, even in snowstorms and torrential rain.

That simple reason alone puts it ahead of 80% of other tents.

But I don’t need to tell you that.

You’ve probably already made up your mind.

If not, please tell me why in the comments below. What are your thoughts on this tent? I’d love to hear them!

Thank you for reading. I hope you have a wonderful day 😀

Cheers.
