Wenzel Pine Ridge Tent (Honest Review)

Posted on October 15, 2016 by Brandon

The Wenzel does look like an OK tent, but is it really worth your money? I will write down my Wenzel Pine Ridge Tent review in this very article and let you know if it’s of any value or not.

Too many people are getting ripped off from fake reviews and fake distributor ratings. So I set out to find out if this tent is actually strong enough to stand in heavy winds and torrential downpour.

I’m an honest guy with an honest opinion 🙂 I will answer the above questions and many more in my full review below.

Product Overview

The manufacturers claim that this tent is a great outdoor suite, more than just a shelter. This tent also contains a light system (revolutionized Lite Reflector).

What I like the most out of the reflect system, you only have to sit a flashlight or headlight onto the gear loft, point it at the Lite Reflect and you have an EVEN glow throughout the tent.

This tent also comes with a room divider, making it simple to divide the tent up into 2 rooms.

I find this useful if you simply want privacy OR to have the kids in the other room so they feel like they’re in their own tent, yet not too far away from the parents.

What Makes This Tent Unique?

That awesome lighting system seems to be something that stands this tent out from the crowd.

Not only that, but this tent has also been the #1 Best Seller, so you absolutely know that this tent is already better than many others.

The amount of ventilation this tent has is also a great feature. With 2 mesh doors, 3 mesh windows, AND a mesh roof, this makes the perfect cross breeze, eliminating condensation buildup.

Who The Wenzel Pine Ridge Tent Is For

This tent has been designed for small families, while 5 people will be a stretch in this tent, it CAN be done. However there will be no room for gear.

Best used with 4 people, maximum, so you still have room for your equipment.

Otherwise if you want to take 5 people, your best option is to take the car so you have somewhere to store your gear at night.

Great for small families, and a perfect choice for a group of friends that want to go for a camping trip (although 4 people maximum, so there’s room for gear).

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • I really like the lighting system that this tent has, good for an even glow throughout the tent without having to hold the flashlight
  • Pretty good at standing up against 40 MPH winds, so I wouldn’t have any problems in going higher than that
  • The waterproofing capabilities are awesome as well, however just make sure the zippers are closed right up to be sure no rain can leak through
  • I find that this tent is also easy to set up, if you’re knowledgeable in tent-pitching it should be a breeze
  • This tent is also not as heavy as other 5-8 person tents, and could actually be something to consider for anyone going backpacking
  • On a hot summer night when you know there will be no rain, take the rain fly off and it makes you feel like you’re sleeping right under the stars

Cons

  • The zippers aren’t the best. MOST of the time you will have to use them slowly, and if they get stuck on the fabric please don’t try and force them
  • It isn’t the strongest material, but for the price you pay there is almost nothing to complain about, especially with a 10 year limited warranty

Alternative/Similar Products

If you want a tent that will have no problems with the zippers and going to be a much better quality, however it is A LOT more expensive (just under $200) but will last you longer, then the CORE 6 Person Instant Cabin tent is definitely something to check out.

Do I Recommend This Tent?

In a heartbeat, surprisingly! A tent at this price, I did not expect it to be this good. Yes, the zippers are not the best but if you actually use them cautiously I would say that they will last just as long as the tent.

I don’t usually praise tents this much, which is why it’s rare for me to recommend a tent of this price so easily.

For the waterproofing capabilities and the sheer amount of pros you can benefit from, I’m going to recommend this tent 100%.

My Final Opinion

For a tent at this price, you would think it would be a piece of junk. However this is FAR from the truth, which is rare to say about a tent in this price range.

You would easily be able to get your moneys worth out of this tent in 5-10 trips, although I have no doubts that you will be able to get more out of it.

I also like how it’s not actually that heavy either. Sitting at 11 pounds, split this up with 3 people and go backpacking into the bush for a 3+ day excursion.

However all in all, this tent works better than I would have ever thought, for that reason, and many more outlined above – this tent is highly recommended!

Wow! I am impressed with this product! My nephew is into camping and will love this information on the tent. I have never seen a tent with lighting like that. I think he will like it too. With two small kids, this seems like the perfect solution with the divider in it. Thanks for the info!

I agree with you Robin. The lighting system, along with the amount of space that this tent provides, will easily be a good fit for your nephew and his 2 kids. Kindly recommend him to this page if you want to 🙂

      Kind regards,

The lighting inside the tent has always been my issue when camping out. We bring rechargeable lamps. but for adequate lighting, big lamps are heavy to hang inside so I just make do with placing it on the ground at one side. The Lite Reflect feature really piqued my interest. I think I’m going to try this out. Thanks for the review!

Good review! My friends love camping but the main issue they always have (besides the lighting) is how heavy the tents are. I like that this tent is not as heavy as other 5-8 person tents so maybe it could be a solution for them. Will forward them this post.

Yes, Dira, the Wenzel Pine Ridge Tent performs surprisingly well. It doesn’t look like much of a tent, especially for the price, but it turns out that it’s actually better than it appears!

It’s always best to NOT judge a book by its cover, and this is a great example.

Good luck to you and your friends.

Wow, what an awesome tent. I love the lighting and the divider is cool for families or friends camping. The zipper did have me feeling cautious but you did explain that nicely and for the price, well you can’t go wrong. Having the windows is ideal as well for ventilation as you mentioned too. I will certainly share this information with friends looking for camping gear. Thanks for the great information.

The lighting feature is a great touch, I totally agree with you. For the amount of functionality that this tent offers and of course, since it’s in a great price range, you simply can not go wrong with it. Thanks for the comment, Merry. I’ll see you around.

      Take care,
      Brandon

Thank you so much for taking the guess work out of this for me. Great information here. I didn’t realize how important research can be when looking for a tent. This was very helpful.

I’m happy to help. A lot of camping “newbies” will think just any tent will do the trick, but this is far from the truth. A lot of tents aren’t as waterproof as the companies claim them to be, which is why research goes a long way when looking for a good tent.

      Thanks for the comment,
      Brandon

Hi Kassandra. That’s great you like to go camping, because the light reflector works admirably well as it lights up the entire room, I’m glad you liked it 🙂

      Cheers,

Well, it is about time to start thinking about venturing into the great outdoors again isn’t it? The snow’s melting, the daylight is lasting longer, and the days are getting warmer!

With spring almost in the air I’ve been considering a nice tent for the kids. I’ve got an RV, but the kids…they still like to “get away” from the grownups to sleep under the stars. This tent might just be the perfect kid-hotel. 🙂

How’s the floor? With the kids traipsing in and out there’s going to be a lot of high traffic filth that makes it into the tent, so is it easy to clean?

Thanks for such an insightful review, I definitely came across this at the right time!

I think it is as well, Jack. You will not regret it, I can promise you that 🙂

Because of how much weatherproofing this tent offers, I can easily recommend it, even for kids! The flooring is actually surprisingly good, which is what caught my eye a lot.

      Thanks for stopping by.

    Hi
I’m learning to camp with my two kids (we do love the out doors) I never brought a tent before

Is there a defference between the red and the green tent? Places are selling the green one cheaper.

    Thanks

      Hello Kristal,

It’s good to see you want to take up camping 🙂 You are opening up endless possibilities and great opportunities for you and your kids to learn invaluable skills.

And there are some changes, but nothing too drastic. The green one has a bathtub flooring (which helps stop leaks coming through the floor), while the red one doesn’t have this feature.

The rain fly and door seem to be different as well, as the red one has an awning and the green one doesn’t, nor does it have the unique Lite Reflector system. Awnings allow you to have the door open in light rain, just so you know.

I would say that both of these tents are almost identical with some minor changes but both perform admirably well. If I had to choose, I would go with the green one if you are on a budget, or the red one if you want additional features.

      Hope this helps 🙂

Great Review..so glad I happened upon your site. We are downsizing our tent this year. We have had a Coleman Montana 6-7 person tent. 12 x 7. Too big now that all our kids are adults. Our youngest daughter is special needs, so she still camps with us. We wanted to go a little smaller, but not a lot smaller. Basically looking at something that was 9 x 7. So this is a little larger. Our #1 need is rain proof..we live in the rainy Pacific Northwest.

Thanks for the comment Kristy. I have 2 options for you to consider.

One is the NEMO Wagontop 4P Tent (8.3 x 8.3 feet) which is good for luxury camping.

The other is the Eureka Assault Outfitter 4 Tent (8.6 x 7.6 feet), which is more recommended for “roughing” it.

Both resist the rain without fail but the Eureka Assault performs better in strong winds. Hope this helps 😀

Your site is so useful! I appreciate how thorough your reviews are. I was thinking of getting this tent for my 2 preteen sons, but was wondering a couple of things. Can 2 twin sized air mattresses fit in this tent? Can the divider flap in the middle be moved out of the way when not in use? Thanks in advance.

Hello Dani. The room divider is removable so yes, it does not have to be in the way all the time, and it can definitely fit 2 twin-sized air mattresses 🙂 🙂 🙂
