What ultimate benefits does this specific product provide? I typically like how this tent is capable of withstanding downpours of rain and holding up even in strong winds.

It has a bathtub styled floor, good for keeping leaks of water out. The vestibule area is hands down my favorite feature, if it’s raining outside and you haven’t cooked your dinner, get a portable gas stove and cook in the vestibule area.

Who It’s For

I find that this tent is good for car camping, weekend camping trips or small bush excursions. Because it’s not as lightweight as other tents, it doesn’t make a good tent for long hiking trips.

If you are fully capable of carrying an 11 pound tent on your back for a long hiking mission, then by all means consider this tent.

Yes, this tent does have enough room to place a queen size air mattress, while still having over a foot left on both sides of the mattress, including almost 2 feet free space along the foot of the bed.

Pros

• This tent is perfect for minor winter conditions AND summer. Simply take the rain fly off and have a 360 degree view of the starry night sky through the mesh

• It is really simple to set up, unless you’re a newbie at tent pitching this could take between 10-20 minutes, however after multiple uses this will soon turn to 5 minutes 😀

• If you aren’t a fan of the traditional system where you have to slide the pole through a thin piece of nylon, this tent has a clipping mechanism instead, making it stand strong in high winds

• 99% of the time there will be NO condensation on the inside of this tent. Mostly because the mesh material provides superb ventilation, even on a hot summer night this ventilation system will give you a perfect breeze

• The 2 door feature of this tent is so handy, no more climbing over the other person in the middle of the night

• With the 2 door feature also comes a double vestibule area, good for putting your equipment in there in case you have a full tent (4 people). I mostly like that they are big enough for a portable cooking stove

Cons

• With the rain fly on, there is no other vents unless you open up the doors, not really something you want to do in the rain or wind

• The floor material isn’t the greatest, so I recommend that you place a footprint underneath just to protect your investment. A tarp will work fine

• Not the best choice for long hiking trips unless you split the weight between 2-3 people

• Fiberglass isn’t the strongest material, so after months of use and multiple outings, you might find 1 or 2 to break. Recommended to replace with aluminium

Alternative/Similar Products

If you want something that doesn’t require a tarp as a foot print, and you want something that’s made with aluminum poles, although it’s smaller (2 person), but roughly the same price – the Mountainsmith Morrison 2 Tent might be something to consider.

Unless you still want a 4 person tent, the ALPS Mountaineering Meramac 4 Tent is actually cheaper, still capable of keeping the rain out while staying strong in the wind, and A LOT lighter than the Slumberjack.

Do I Recommend This Tent?

Actually I do, for this price and the cons are pretty much nothing to worry about, I find that this tent makes a great product for anyone that’s going for small camping trips or small hiking missions.

And because this tent can withstand downpours of rain while keeping the inside dry and holding up in tough winds, I would recommend this tent in a heartbeat, especially for a family with kids or a dog.

My Final Opinion

You and your child’s safety is the most important thing to worry about when out camping.

You can not put a price on your child’s life, so purchasing a high quality, decent tent that’s not going to fall over when you’re sleeping or get flooded in the middle of the night is something to take very seriously.

I find that this tent is high quality, will hold up in strong winds, and is going to keep the rain out. That is what’s important when choosing a tent.

For the reasons outlined above, and for the simple fact that a great tent and a bad tent can mean the difference between waking up with your entire campsite washed away or waking up completely dry after a good nights sleep, then this tent is highly recommended!
