All About This Tent
So the First Gear – Cliff Hanger – Solo Tent is a “3-season” tent, meaning it can be used in the spring, summer or fall, and will be rendered useless if you use it in the winter time.
There are 7.9 mm fiberglass poles for a fast and easy setup each time, while the taped seams allow this tent to handle rain without a problem.
Not to mention the 2 air vents that it offers, which are great at keeping the air flow moving, especially during a hot and humid summer night!
It has been described from the manufacturers as a very lightweight solo tent, and I can’t agree more!
Furthermore, it offers a full-coverage rain fly so you can stay protected from the rain as much as possible.
Features That Stand Out The Most
‘No-See-Um’ Mesh – Due to the all-mesh walls and roof, it offers excellent ventilation, along with a very lightweight frame (good for backpackers).
The ‘No-See-Um’ Mesh makes this tent good to use in the summertime and spring since the air is constantly moving in and out of the tent, allowing you to stay cool on those unbearable, muggy nights!
This also means that you can remove the rain fly and have a full view the night sky!
Cliff Hanger Constructs – The “cliff hanger constructs” make 3-season tents capable of withstanding strong winds, which is why the First Gear – Cliff Hanger – Solo Tent has been built with this particular structure, so it can combat unexpected storms in the midst of summer.
Vestibule – Yes, due to the full-coverage fly that it offers, there is enough space under the fabric to form a vestibule area.
In my honest opinion, it isn’t the biggest vestibule for a solo tent, and neither is it the smallest, but it does get the job done very well.
Lightweight – Sitting at 3.5 pounds and IN THIS PRICE BRACKET, really makes it stand out from its competitors, especially when you compare it to tents that are 3x the price of this one (and most of the time doubled in weight).
Interesting Findings
Many people have found this tent to be extremely waterproof. I like how it’s on the cheaper side of backpacking tents but still functional enough to get the job just fine.
The weight of this tent was another great feature that stood out to me. You don’t find many tents in this price bracket that’s under 4 pounds!
Who This Tent Is For
Because it isn’t exactly high quality, nor expensive – it makes a great choice for a weekend camp out in the wilderness or a public camp site.
Heck, it will even work as a backyard tent for the kids! If they are brave enough to camp out on their own, of course.
It has enough space to house a small adult and a child, or 2-3 small children, as long as there are adults camping nearby to ensure their safety.
But most of all, it works best as a backpacking tent due to the weight of it.
Availability
You can get this tent readily available from the popular online store, Amazon.com.
They have the BEST prices, and great customer service.
Not to mention the free shipping, while a 30-day return policy is attached to the order so you can get a full refund if you decide that you don’t want the tent anymore.
Repairs are also free of charge within those first 30 days of purchase.

But Is It Even Worth Purchasing?
For someone that doesn’t camp often and doesn’t want to spend their life savings on an easy camping trip, then you should definitely consider purchasing this tent.
Even though it isn’t as high quality as tents that are worth $100-$200, it certainly performs just as well!
However, even though it does a great job on the trail, it will not last as long as the more expensive tents.
But in saying that, for the current price of this one, you simply can not go wrong with it.
The First Gear – Cliff Hanger Solo Tent performs admirably well and well worth the money!
Alternative Tents Worth Looking In To
Due to the First Gear not being able to last a long time if you use a few times a year, you should consider the ALPS Mountaineering Mystique 1.0 Tent since it’s going to last MUCH longer and easily going to keep you a lot warmer as well.
The Snugpak Ionosphere 1 Person Tent is another great option if you are looking for an “army-styled” tent. The color is army green, making it much more difficult to see from a distance (if you’re into that sort of thing), while it’s bound to last a lot longer than the First Gear Solo Tent, too.
My Final Words
The First Gear Solo Tent is by no means high quality or anything like that, but for the price of it, you simply can not go wrong, and I really mean that.
The price varies between $40 and $60, but if you manage to get at least 2-3 trips out of that (you’ll easily get more than that), you have already got your monies worth!
That’s why I only recommend this tent for casual campers and not avid/hardcore backpackers, because you will be let down when it breaks or a pole snaps while you’re out in the wild!
Anyway, I think it’s time to wrap up this review.
Due to this tent being very lightweight and a good option for people on a budget, I will have to say that the First Gear – Cliff Hanger – Solo Tent is well worth the money and highly recommended!
