A Grizzly by Black Pine Sleeping Bag Review (Canvas/ Blue)

Posted on September 2, 2017 by Brandon

Does this sleeping bag really keep you warm at temperatures of -25 Degrees F or is that just a typo in the product description, because that is certainly a low number if you ask me.

So what I’m going to do is see what this sleeping bag has to offer (the features and whatnot), expose the real quality and then give my final opinion on it.

We will discover if it’s actually worth the price tag or just a waste of money.

Spacious, Warm, and Very Comfortable!
  • Functionality
  • Quality
  • Comfortability
  • Weight
  • Value
4.2

Summary:

The flannel lining and hood provides immense warmth and comfort, while all other features eliminate cold spots to ensure you stay warm throughout the night, even in below 0 degree temperatures. It’s actually the best semi-rectangular bag I’ve reviewed so far and have to say they’ve done a MIGHTY fine job at designing and creating it!

 Pros  Cons
  • Warm enough to keep you alive at altitudes and extreme cold temperatures
  • The flannel lining provides maximum comfort and minimal itchiness
  • A lot more spacious than mummy bags! I don’t care what anyone says, mummy bags force you to sleep perfectly straight while this bag allows you to toss and turn
  • Provides high quality zippers, which is actually a massive plus considering other manufacturers skimp over this
  • Absolutely no cold spots due to the vast amount of features and well-thought out design
  • Really heavy. I wouldn’t even consider taking it on a backpacking trip
  • A struggle to get back into the stuff sack

Grizzly by Black Pine Sleeping Bag Review

Specifications

Product name: Grizzly by Black Pine Sleeping Bag (Canvas/ Blue)

Cheapest place to buy: Amazon.com

Color: Blue

Item Weight: 10.7 pounds

Temperature Rating: -25 Degrees F

Dimensions: 7.5 x 3.3 feet

Packed Size: Unknown

What is this Sleeping Bag all About?

This is the Grizzly by Black Pine Sleeping Bag (Canvas/ Blue version).

It is huge inside, which is 7.5 feet from head to toe and 3.3 feet wide.

The temperature rating is -25 Degrees F, so you will stay warm in extreme cold conditions.

It has a flannel lining for superior comfort and minimal roughness/itchiness.

All of this results in a comfortable, durable and incredibly warm sleeping bag!

Keeping it clean is a breeze since it’s 100% machine washable (gentle cycle only). However, you will need to hang it out to dry. Luckily it offers “hang-to-dry” loops at the bottom of the bag.

A highly durable compression stuff sack is also included in the purchase.

Key Features

Heavy Duty Zippers – It offers HEAVY-DUTY MAX double zippers. These big zippers extend the life of the bag

Oversized Draft Tube – Acts as a barrier along the zipper line to stop cold air getting inside the bag

Chest Baffles – This provides immense warmth around the chest area and stops warm air escaping

Built-in Hood – Keeps your head warm, it’s more cozy, and also prevents heat loss. There’s even enough room to place your very own pillow for added comfort

Grizzly by Black Pine Sleeping Bag (2)

Two-Layer Construction – The double layer construction design means seams do not overlap and ensures an even warmth throughout the bag

What I Find Interesting

I really like the heavy-duty zippers. If you’re an avid camper you’ll probably already know that when a zipper breaks on a product it is pretty much unusable.

The oversized draft tube is a great idea as well. I’m all for eliminating cold spots!

If the flannel lining doesn’t offer enough comfort, the built-in hood has enough room for a PILLOW.

Who Should Buy This Sleeping Bag?

If you’re looking for a high quality sleeping bag that offers a vast amount of features, the ability to keep you warm in low temperatures and a massive interior space, then you should definitely consider purchasing this sleeping bag.

It’s WAY too heavy for backpacking but ideal for car camping, music festivals, sleepovers, crashing on a mates couch, or just snuggling up on the couch on a cold, rainy night.

However, it’s definitely more suited for tall campers since it has a length of 7.5 feet!

Do I Recommend This Bag?

Well where do I start?

This sleeping bag is SO warm. You will have no issues staying warm even at the advertised temperature rating.

99% of the feedback is from people praising the hell out of this product, and there’s a good reason why.

It performs exactly as advertised, it’s toasting warm in low temparatures, high quality and durable, and the best semi-rectangular sleeping bag I’ve reviewed so far!

It is an amazing bag that exceeded my expectations (and probably many others) by a long shot!

Definitely a one-of-a-kind bag and highly recommended.

Alternative Sleeping Bags

If you like the tall factor but not the weight, I’ve compiled a list of some the best lightweight, lengthy sleeping bags you can use for car camping trips AND backpacking.

They are all high quality and easily going to last long time as long as you look after them properly.

My Final Opinion

I simply can not believe how well this sleeping bag performs.

At first glance it doesn’t look warm or of decent quality, but upon reviewing it and digging down into the quality of the bag I was soon surprised.

It is comfortable, warm and durable.

It offers exceptional insulation and a top-notch design with absolutely NO cold spots.

What a great finished product!

With a bag this size, I don’t see anyone NOT fitting in it! It is huge inside. Thanks for the comment. I hope to see you around here more 😀

Wow, what an awesome review! You did a fantastic job. Sold! My husband is 6 ft. 3, his brother is 6 ft. 8 and his nephew is nearly 7 ft. This would be the perfect sleeping bag for tall guys like them. Which bag would you recommend for warmer weather conditions though? We live in Sunny South Africa and it’s rarely below 10 degrees centigrade/50 degrees fahrenheit here.

So the tallness runs through the whole family eh? It’s good that there are actually high quality sleeping bags that even people close to 7 feet can fit in comfortably.

A 50 Degrees F sleeping bag will keep you alive at those temperatures only. It’s not going to be “comfortably” warm, so your best choice would be a sleeping bag with a lower temperature rating than that, something along the lines of 20-40 Degrees F. There’s a lot of them some here.

This takes me back to my childhood, camping with my family. All bundled up in your sleeping bags. Makes me want to get out there again.

Hi Brandon, love your review on the Grizzly sleeping bag. This sleeping bag is catered for people who hike mountains at higher altitudes as the temperature rating can keep us warm, it’s fantastic for that application. I use to camp when I was younger but the weather here is too warm and humid even at night. I wonder if you have options for climates similar to Malaysia. We are whole year between 25 to 34 degrees Celsius and its humid!

      Of course I do, Clemens.

There’s 7 listed here. You’ll find at least half them are perfect for camping in Malaysia 🙂
