Is The Coleman Instant Cabin Tent Worth The Hefty Price Tag?

Posted on November 30, 2016 by Brandon

This tent has received a lot of purchases, however it has also been given a lot of mixed feedback too. In this Coleman Instant Cabin review, I will be discovering the true quality of this product and writing down my findings in this very article.

From here on out I am going to debunk all the online feedback regarding this product and then giving my final verdict on it.

Product Overview

This 6 person tent has been designed for ultimate simplicity, since setting up the Coleman Instant Cabin tent can be done in a breeze.

And because the the poles are pre-attached to the tent’s fabric, it’s just a matter of unfolding, extending and securing. This means it can be pitched in 60 seconds, while the vented rain fly will also be ready at this stage.

This tent contains a WeatherTec system, along with a welded floor to help with keeping the rain out. There is enough room on the inside of this tent to fit 2 queen-sized air mattresses.

There is 2 large pockets to keep your smaller items organized, and for easier access. This tent has been described to fit easily back into its carry bag too, the carry bag has a rip strip on it to help it stay closed.

What Makes This Tent Unique?

The extra ventilation supplied on the rain fly really caught my eye, while having this feature, it is STILL capable of keeping rain out during a heavy downpour.

I find that the manufacturers have truly gone the extra mile to ensure no rain will get inside this tent, especially because of the bathtub flooring and taped seams

What Are Its Specifications?

Product Name: Coleman Instant Cabin Tent

Color: Brown and black

Weight: 24.9 pounds

Maximum Height: 71 inches

Occupancy: 6 person

Guarantee: 30 day return policy

Who It’s For

It is a 6 person tent, which means it will only fit 6 people inside of it, only if everybody’s lined up like sardines though. However, apart from that, it will easily fit 4 people comfortably.

Any less than that and you’ll maximize space. This tent would work great for a small family or a group of friends.

And since the manufacturers weatherproofed this tent as much as possible, you can almost ensure your families safety is looked after.

Pricing & Purchase Details

This tent can be purchased from Amazon.com. The price range changes though, and mostly between $150 and $200, so I suggest you see the current price before making any final decisions.

It also includes a 30 day return policy after purchase. Send it back for a repair, in the event you found a defect on the product, or simply send it back for a full refund – for any reason.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Extremely simple to set up, and can be pitched in less than a minute with some practice
  • It is made with high quality material and will last many years (if you’re a season camper), as claimed by many others who have personally used it themselves
  • Incredibly ventilated. There is extra ventilation on the rain fly and the large windows help keep natural light coming in, you will not find any condensation buildup on this tent
  • Unlike 90% of other tents, you can actually fit this one bag into its carry bag

Cons

  • Costs more to get the added rain fly
  • There’s a slight chance you’ll get a bad tent, meaning it won’t be the as water-resistant as the other ones created

Do I Recommend This Tent?

Yes and no. There are so many people giving this tent mixed feedback and I’m pretty sure I know why.

The tent’s rain fly is sold separately, and many of the people purchasing this tent aren’t buying the added rain fly, resulting in an unpredictable and possibly leaky tent.

In my honest opinion, you shouldn’t have to purchase the added rain fly JUST to ensure your tents going to keep you bone dry.

To get the rain fly, it’s an added cost of roughly $20-$30

I came to the conclusion that this tent does work extremely well and keeps you bone dry when a downpour hits (only if you purchase the rain fly though), however I do find there to be much better alternatives that are cheaper than this one.

Yes, it is recommended IF you buy the rain fly.

However, it isn’t recommended for you if you decide not to purchase this separate piece.

Alternative/Similar Products

Even though it’s a good tent, I find there to be much better alternatives (and cheaper too).

The CORE 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent is another tent that can be pitched in 60 seconds, it is also very well-ventilated while keeping you bone dry. The rain fly is included in the purchase 🙂

There’s another tent I’d like you to see, it is a little smaller (5 person), and works great in rough conditions too.

I think you’ll enjoy it if you want something that’s much cheaper but still being high quality. The Wenzel Pine Ridge Tent is one you don’t want to pass up! It is a lot lighter too.

My Final Opinion

Listen, it’s a good tent and does the job extremely well, but only if you get the rain fly. If you do, then it’s highly recommended for you!

If you still want to go ahead with the purchase, get it on Amazon.com at its cheapest price.

However, If you don’t want to purchase the rain fly, there is a better alternative – and a little cheaper as well.

The CORE 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent is my more recommended choice for you. The rain fly is included for free in the purchase, AND it’s just as good with keeping the rain out.

My final verdict – The Coleman Instant Cabin Tent is good, but only if you get the separate rain fly. While my alternative tent is a much better choice if you want something cheaper and just as good.
