Coleman Silverton Sleeping Bag Review (0 Degree Adult Mummy)

Posted on January 21, 2017February 3, 2020 by Brandon

Last modified on February 3rd, 2020

I am going to be providing my very own, honest, Coleman Silverton Sleeping Bag review inside this very article.

Because I’m an avid camper, I always like to do thorough research on a product before I dive in and make that all-important purchase.

While I’m reviewing a product, I write my findings down on my website (right here), so I can help other people who are also looking to see how this sleeping bag performs.

If you want to know more about this bag too, then I suggest you keep reading 🙂

Product Overview

The manufacturers are saying that you can sleep comfortably in cold conditions while you’re inside this sleeping bag.

While the temperature rating is at 25 degrees Fahrenheit, they claim you can still keep warm down to a temperature of 0 degrees F (which is -17 degrees C!).

However, I will not say this is true until I do more research on this sleeping bag first.

It contains a ripstop cover along with a polyester lining.

The sole design of this bag is to eliminate cold spots while ensuring you will keep warm from the top to bottom. They do this by having a special quilt construction.

There is a semi-sculpted hood attached to this bag also, this helps you stay extra warm by surrounding your head and keeping it insulated as much as possible.

The 3 inch (insulated) draft tube is created to stop the heat from coming out through the zipper area.

I can also see that there’s a box-shaped footing area, allowing you to freely move your feet around without being squished up.

And yes, there is a stuff sack included.

I would also like to mention that the Coleman Silverton Sleeping Bag IS machine-washable.

What Makes This Sleeping Bag Unique?

I love the design and the color that this typical sleeping has.

The mummy-shape and the teal color makes it easily stand out from the crowd, while looking like a much more expensive sleeping bag in the process 🙂

The semi-sculpted hood is a feature that I like the most though, it allows you to camp in extremely low temperatures without freezing to death!

Who Should Buy This Sleeping Bag?

This sleeping bag has a height rating of 6ft. 2 in. (which is 1.88 m). If you happen to be this height or lower, then it could be for you.

It has been found to work well for both male and female, while the short people have said it fits them perfectly as well.

If you’re wanting to camp in extremely cold temperatures and you’re on a budget, then it is definitely for you.

Pricing & Purchase Details

Amazon.com sell these sleeping bags, and usually within the price range of $40-$80.

This includes a 30 day return policy.

This means if you notice any defects on the product, simply send it back for a repair.

Otherwise you can get a full refund if you want to, even if you JUST didn’t like it! However, this has to be within that 30 day time frame though.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • You can go beyond the actual temperature rating! A lot of buyers have used this bag down to 15 degrees F, with a tent and thermals of course
  • It is plush, extremely comfortable, and very warm/snug, as mentioned by many people who have used it
  • It has been made with high quality, durable material, making it a last for a very long time
  • The zipper doesn’t get stuck on the fabric. This is a common issue with many other sleeping bags

Cons

  • It is heavy and bulky, so not a good choice for backpacking
  • It does not pack up small. You will have a difficult time trying to get it back into the stuff sack too

Do I Recommend This Sleeping Bag?

Absolutely!

Simply because it works exactly as advertised, while a lot of buyers have claimed this to be true.

The cons are nothing to worry about either, as there are still so many people that have fallen in love with this sleeping bag.

And since it works incredibly well for car camping, as well as having the ability to keep you really warm in cold temperatures, I can easily give this sleeping bag a thumbs up!

Highly recommended.

Alternative Sleeping Bag

If you need a sleeping bag for backpacking (a lighter one than this), but one that is roughly in the same price range and is capable of keeping you warm in low temperatures too, then you need to see the Suisse Sport Everest Sleeping Bag.

My Final Opinion

For the price of this sleeping bag, you really can NOT go wrong.

It’s in a price range that works well for people on a budget while trying to find something that will perform beyond their expectations in cold conditions.

The Coleman Silverton is THAT sleeping bag.

The pros heavily outweigh the cons, the price is extremely affordable, and it is very high quality.

I don’t always praise products as much as I have inside this article, but this one has caught me by surprise, and that’s because of all the reasons that I have outlined throughout this entire review.

If you want something to work very well in cold temperatures but don’t want to spend $300 on a Down bag, that contains the exact same features anyway, just much lighter, then this one is for you.

A great bag, exceeded my expectations by a long shot, highly recommended!
