Everything You Need To Know About Coleman Tents

Posted on July 17, 2017 by Brandon

Is Coleman a good tent brand & should you trust Coleman for all future camping trips?

That is the all-important question we ask ourselves each and every time we think of buying one of their tents.

I’ve personally used many Coleman tents over the years and reviewed much more on this very website.

However, I’d like to go into more detail on where they are located and what they are all about.

About Coleman

The official Coleman company (headquarters) is located in Wichita, Kansas.

They specialize in outdoor equipment and provide a large amount of different product types.

Coleman was founded by a man named William Coffin Coleman back in 1900 – when he first started selling gasoline pressure lamps.

Fast forward to today and it is currently owned by a company called Newell Brands.

Newell Brands owns many other companies, which are: Sunbeam Products, First Alert, Mr. Coffee, and Oster.

There are a lot of Newell Brands’ facilities all over the country, with most being in Texas.

The company consists of 3600 employees that are all employed in manufacturing jobs.

You can read more about Coleman here.

The Quality Of Coleman Tents

Most Coleman tents are found to be good quality for the price, but other times you might feel like you’ve wasted your money.

The good part about Coleman tents is that you have an extremely high chance of receiving one that’s made with high quality materials and going to stand the test of time.

Of course they aren’t the highest quality tents on the market, but at least they’re constructed good enough to withstand the elements while being 100% affordable.

What Their Tents Are Best Used For

Even though they have many 1, 2, 3 and 4-person tents, 99% of the time they focus on family tents (5-person or more).

I find that their smaller tents do a “decent” job, however, the family tents perform much better than them.

It’s not easy to find tent manufacturers that specialize in affordability, so Coleman definitely have the upper hand in this area.

Where They Stand Amongst Competitors

They specialize in affordability

You’ll be lucky to find a tent from another brand that beats Coleman’s prices – that’s for sure.

Their aim is to help low-income earners spend time in the outdoors with friends and family without paying an arm or a leg for a tent, as there are lots of families that simply cannot afford to go on vacations these days.

So that is why you will see many family campers using Coleman tents, because they are highly affordable and get the job done.

Not as high quality as other brands

I’m not going to lie here, not all their tents are constructed well, or even made with durable material for that matter.

As a result of them being very affordable, there’s a slight chance you could receive a bad tent that doesn’t perform as good as the ones mentioned in the online reviews/feedback.

Can sometimes find a bargain

In saying that, Coleman have definitely made some surprisingly strong and highly waterproof tents in the past and continue to be made to this day.

The Coleman Steel Creek 6 Person Tent is one of them, while the Coleman 8 Person Instant Tent is just as good!

Be VERY Careful With Coleman

Their tents are a hit or miss (you might get a good one or bad one), so it’s best to do a lot of research on a tent you’re interested in before making a final decision.

This means reading multiple reviews and lots of feedback on e-commerce sites.

Fortunately for you, I have reviewed many Coleman tents already and still continue to do so, so feel free to browse them here.

What I Really Think About Coleman Tents

Love them or hate them, they have been getting families in the outdoors and enjoying the hot summer sun every single year, and it’s not slowing down either.

It’s because of THEM that low-income earners can still go on vacations, to bond with friends and family and not break the bank in the process.

Not everyone has $400 for a more high quality tent, which is why Coleman are the BEST way to go when you’re low on funds and needing a tent ASAP.

And if you haven’t already guessed it, I have no problems with Coleman whatsoever.

They are an amazing brand and continue to release great, affordable tents that can hold out the rain and stay standing in strong winds.

What more could you want?

Don’t let friends and family spend over $400 on a family tent again! Let them know that Coleman are here to help. Smash that share button!

Alternatively, you can leave a comment below.

1. Do you think Coleman are a great brand or a waste of money?

2. What brand IS your favorite at this point in time?

Cheers.

PS: It would make my day to hear your thoughts and opinions on Coleman tents.
