The Wenzel Evergreen Tent is Good for Summer Camping & That’s it

Posted on July 29, 2017 by Brandon

I’m going to take a look into the Wenzel Evergreen Tent.

Why?

Because there are a mixture of reviews for this tent scattered all around the internet. I want to debunk all of them, so I can give you my honest and unbiased Wenzel Evergreen Tent review.

If you’re after a NO BS review, then you are in the right place my good friend.

Enjoy 🙂

A Viable Tent For Summer Camping & That's It
  • Functionality
  • Waterproof
  • Strength
  • Value
3.6

Summary:

This tent has a bunch of great features. However – sadly, the low quality materials means they have a high chance of breaking easily. It can not stand strong in heavy winds and sometimes leaks in the rain. It might be good summer tent, but thunderstorms can happen in the peak of summer a as well, which is why this tent is a much better alternative.

Wenzel Evergreen Tent - 6 Person

 Pros  Cons
  • Very roomy and tall inside. The center height goes up to 6 feet
  • Fast and easy to setup, as told by many people that’s used this tent (about 5-15 minutes with 2 people)
  • The mesh material provides an unobstructed view of the starry night sky AND views of the horizon
  • Has lots of ventilation, obviously because of all the mesh material, large doors and windows
  • The string on the poles have snapped on people
  • It can’t handle strong gusts winds. Even 20-30 MPH winds have made this tent buckle
  • Some of the materials are low quality and cheap. They can split and break even when being set up
  • It can keep minor rain out, but a lot of these tents have known to leak in a heavy downpour

What Is This Tent All About?

The Wenzel Evergreen 6-Person Tent has two rooms due to the room divider and has been described as “very spacious”. The room divider can be removed if you want to keep it as one large room.

There are two large doors located right next to each other, which are both D-shaped.

For maximum air flow during the daytime, leave both doors open. And if you leave the windows open as well, it will give you maximum views and a great cross-breeze.

The three mesh windows can be opened or closed depending on weather conditions and temperature.

To top it all off, there is a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty!

Key Features

Two Large Doors – The two D-shaped doors have “privacy panels” – good for those who like to enjoy their privacy when in a public campsite

Pre-attached Guy Lines – Traditional tents have guy lines separate from the tent, however, the Wenzel Evergreen has them already attached to the tent, maximizing convenience

Room Divider – This tent comes with a room divider. For privacy from the kids or other campers, place the room divider up or leave it off for a large living area

Full-Mesh Roof – The mesh ceiling provides great stargazing opportunities on the warmer nights. Simply remove the rain fly when you know you’re not got to have rain and sleep under the stars!

Multi Diameter Fiberglass Poles – This specific design creates much more headroom, providing better livability and convenience

Fast and Easy Setup – This tent is super quick and easy to set up thanks to the shock corded fiberglass poles

Bonuses

Gear Loft – Yes, this has a gear loft that’s INCLUDED in the purchase. For those who don’t know, a gear loft is a piece of material that hangs either on the ceiling or on the wall so you have somewhere to store your gear

Two Interior Pockets – For all your personal items, simply place them in the two interior mesh pockets available. I find these to be good for mobile phones, keys, IDs, etc

Electrical Port – If you’re in a public campsite where electricity’s available, you can run a cord through the E-port and charge your phone, use tablets, laptops, or even TVs

What I Find Interesting

The two doors that are “back-to-back” with each other is a feature you don’t see very often, that’s for sure.

The included gear loft surprised me heavily. It’s rare to see manufacturers providing freebies, so an included gear loft AND room divider is what caught my eye a lot.

Last but not least: the extra headroom/improved livability works amazingly well. This is due to the Multi Diameter Fiberglass Poles.

If you’re caught up in a storm, you won’t be all cramped up in the tent because of the vertical walls!

Who Should Buy This Tent?

A camping family or group of friends will find this tent to work for them during the summertime.

The room divider means you can have privacy from your friends, and if you have kids, simply keep the room divider up so the kids feel like they’re in their own tent.

However, you can still keep an eye on them at any time of the night. It’s a win-win.

The weight (17.4 pounds) means this tent is out of the question for backpacking, but will definitely work for car camping.

Best Place To Buy?

The very best place to get this tent from is hands down Amazon.com.

Why?

Because they have extremely fast deliveries (sometimes the next day), free shipping, and a 30-day return policy.

My favorite is the return policy. If you don’t like your purchase even after you’ve used it, you can get a full refund – no questions asked.

And if you find any defects on the product, you can send it back and get a repair, free of charge.

Do I Recommend This Tent?

The Wenzel Evergreen Tent hasn’t received that much feedback over the years. But I did find a fine distinction between people loving this tent and people hating it.

After my findings, I have come to the conclusion that this tent does a great job in the summertime, where you won’t be experiencing strong gusts of wind, because it WILL fall over.

Furthermore, the materials are low quality!

The poles have known to crack and split, the string on the poles snap, while the feet [that the poles go into] get crushed easily.

I’ve already made up my mind with this one, and I hope you follow suit.

This tent is not recommended. At this price, there are better alternatives!

Alternative Tents

In all honesty, you’re better off spending a little more money to get a tent that’s much higher quality, not going to blow over in the wind or leak in the rain, and will work exactly as intended to. The CORE 6 is that tent.

Another great alternative is the Coleman Steel Creek 6 Person Tent, which has a screened front porch, is very fast and easy to set up, and performs flawlessly in the rain and wind.

My Final Opinion

The Wenzel Evergreen Tent doesn’t have that many cons – in its defense, however, the small number of negative reviews is enough to steer me in a different direction.

Even though it will be a good tent for summer camping, you’re still taking a massive gamble since thunderstorms can happen in the peak of summer as well, and oftentimes they are fully unexpected.

There are much better alternatives in this price range, which is why I am giving the Wenzel Evergreen Tent a big thumbs down.

This tent is not recommended.

Been looking into tents a bit recently as we used to go on pod holidays before we had our daughters but think a tent would be much better suited. Thanks for your take on these products as I’m finding lots of information 🙂
