Introduction:

The water bottle I will be reviewing in this article is the YETI Rambler 18oz. YETI brand is known for producing tough and durable insulated water bottles that keep drinks hot and cold for a long period of time. Trust me, if you plan on hiking 7.5 miles at Bryce Canyon National Park, you are going to need a bottle that will keep your drinks ice COLD!

Our Conclusion:

Overall, the YETI Rambler is a tough and durable water bottle that will keep your drinks hot and cold. This Particular model of the YETI comes with a chug cap, which I personally love because it is easy to drink out of. I would recommend the YETI Rambler 18oz. insulated water bottle. It is the perfect water bottle for anyone, and I don’t think you will be disappointed, as it passed all of our tests (See below)! Keep reading for more on the YETI Rambler.

Description:

The YETI Rambler®18oz. bottle is a double wall vacuum insulated water bottle made from 18/8 stainless steel. This water bottle comes in 8 different colors, so you should be able to find a color that best suits your taste. The YETI Rambler is dishwasher safe, which will save you time from having to hand wash it. Yes, I realize hand washing is a pain, so this is definitely a plus for me! All you have to do is throw it in the dishwasher and you are good to go. This insulated water bottle is also rust resistant, 100% leakproof, BPA-free, and shatter resistant!

When to Use This Water Bottle:

The YETI Rambler is best used for hiking (It is a little heavy for a water bottle, but we are talking ounces people! Suck it up and take your YETI hiking), camping, kayaking, river rafting, and other outdoor activities. Some of you may be reading this and saying, I don’t enjoy any outdoor activities. Well you are in luck because the YETI Rambler is also good for keeping your coffee warm on a long workday and perfect for keeping beer cold while you are inside watching a sporting event. The YETI Rambler will be able to handle just about any drink you throw at it.

Other things you can use the YETI Rambler 18oz. insulated water bottle for:

  • Daytrips to the beach
  • Hunting
  • Sitting by the fire pit
  • Keeping wine cold for your mother-in-law (helps to stay on her good side)

When Not to Use This Water Bottle:

The YETI Rambler can pretty much be used for just about any situation in which you will need to keep drinks hot or cold. The YETI Rambler shouldn’t be used for:

  • Hitting your sister upside the head
  • Feeding grizzly bears
  • Surfing the Atlantic Ocean
  • Pouring hot coffee on your boss when he yells at you for being late for the third day in a row (That’s right Jerry, stop being late to work and deal with it like a man!)

Test Results:

In order to really see if YETI can put their money where their mouth is, I ran some tests. The first test I ran was the leak test. The second test I put the YETI Rambler through was a temperature test. Next, I tested to see how durable the YETI Rambler was. Lastly, I tested to see if the Yeti was dog proofed (This was my personal favorite!). Please see below for results.

Leak Test:

For the leak test, I filled the insulated water bottle with water and measured from the top of the water to the top of the water bottle, which was 3/16th of an inch. I, then, ensured I screwed the cap on real tight and laid the water bottle completely on its side for 24 hours. After 24 hours, I opened the water bottle and there was no water lost. The measurement from the top of the water to the top of the water bottle was still the same, at 3/16th of an inch. YETI states that the Rambler is 100% leak proof and according to my test, that holds true. You will not have to worry about the YETI Rambler leaking on your hiking, hunting, or camping trip.

Temperature Test:

I filled the insulated bottle with 18 ounces of water that was 46 degrees and set the bottle inside my kitchen, which was around 70 degrees in temperature (The Temperature of the kitchen fluctuated throughout the 24-hour period). I, then, checked the temperature of the water every hour for the next 12 hours and once at the 24-hour mark. After 12 hours, I checked the temperature of the water with a meat thermometer (the same way I had been) and the temperature was 58.6 degrees. That means the temperature of the water went up 12.6 degrees and was still below the room temperature. This test is certainly not perfect and far from scientific, but it does give an idea of how the YETI Rambler keeps drinks cold. If you are looking to see how the YETI Rambler compares to other water bottles, check out my summary article.

Durability Test:

I am known for dropping things out of my bedroom window. I rule over that 12 foot gap as if it were my kingdom. I am a seasoned professional and this is my home turf.

YETI is known for its durability and I really wanted to see how durable it really was. I thought that dropping it out of my bedroom window onto the concrete would be a good way to test it. The distance from the window to the concrete is 12 feet. I filled the YETI Rambler with water, and I dropped it out the window. I have to say, I was very impressed with the results. The YETI Rambler barely had any damage. There was a small dent at the bottom of the bottle and a couple scratches on the bottle as well as on the cap. The YETI lives up to the hype on durability.

YETI Rambler vs. Dog:

I was trying to come up with unique ways to test the YETI Rambler and sure I could have performed other temperature tests or durability test, but many others have already performed similar tests. So, I wanted to test my dog, Max, against the YETI to see who would win. I, first, put a treat on the lid to see if she could get it off and, to her credit, she did (She is one smart pup!). I, then, put another treat in the bottle without the cap, and it took her awhile, but she got the treat out of the bottle. Was there a clear winner? It is tough to say because the YETI hardly got a scratch on it, but Max got the treat! So, I guess it is your call.

If this bottle was a Star Wars Character:

This is probably my favorite section of the article. Yes, I am biased as I am the one writing the article. However, I don’t care because I am a huge Star Wars fan and what better comparison than water bottles and Star Wars characters! I would say the YETI Rambler 18oz. insulated water bottle compares to R2D2 and not just because R2D2 looks like a water bottle with legs. The YETI Rambler, just like R2D2, is always reliable. The YETI Rambler will keep your drinks hot and cold in just about any situation, similar to R2D2 who will always be around as a reliable savior. For example, when R2D2 saved Luke, Han, Leia, and Chewbacca by turning off the garbage compacter on the Death Star or when he put C-3PO back together during the Battle of Geneonosis. The YETI Rambler is also durable like R2D2. The YETI Rambler can take a beating and still look good, just like R2D2 has made an appearance in every Star Wars movie, except for Solo, and still looks like a perfect little Astromech Droid.
