The Coleman WeatherMaster 6 Person Screened Tent Leaks

Posted on December 28, 2016 by Brandon

I’m going to discover the true quality of this product inside this Coleman WeatherMaster 6 Person Screened Tent review.

With so many tents out on the market, it makes a bigger chance for people to get a bad one, one that’s not going to work as good as the creators claim them to.

If you would like to find out whether this tent is actually good to use, high quality, waterproof, and worth the price, then you should keep reading this review because I will be answering these questions and many more throughout.

Coleman WeatherMaster 6 Person Screened Tent

Product Overview

There’s so much information regarding this product all over the internet, so I will create a basic overview about it and then get into more details below.

This tent has been designed for family car campers, scout leaders, or extended camping excursions. The manufacturers have designed it to be extremely easy for this tent to get set up.

It has a room divider, creating 2 rooms, and having enough room to house up to 6 people.

The floor dimensions are: 17’x9′, while the center height is at 6’10”.

This tent also contains a floor-less room, allowing good breeze and ventilation for the hot summer days.

This is the perfect place for gathering, eating meals, getting out of the rain or sun, or just a place to store your gear.

The Variflo adjustable ventilation makes it easier to control the airflow throughout the tent.

Some great features that this tent provides:

  • Cool-air port (vented)
  • Privacy windows, which are designed to give extra ventilation
  • Electrical access port
  • Color-coded pole sleeves
  • Interior gear pockets
  • InstaClip attachments
  • Hinged D-shaped front door

Just to name a few.

The instructions are also sewn straight onto the carry bag so you don’t misplace them 😛  The separate stake and pole bags are included with the purchase as well.

The seams, both rain fly and tent, have been fully-taped and inverted, ensuring it will stay leak-free even through a harsh rain storm.

While the fabric has been coated and combined with an anti-wicking thread and webbing, which gives it even more protection against the rain.

How well does it stand up against the wind though? The Coleman WeatherMaster 6 Person Screened Tent has been engineered with a stronger and more responsive frame.

This is because it uses redesigned poles along with guy-out triangles, making sure the tent will stay anchored through strong gusts of wind.

What Makes This Tent Unique

I find that the manufacturers are ensuring everyone’s safety with this tent.

They have gone the extra mile to make it waterproof while spending more time on the wind-proofing capabilities so it won’t fly away during a stormy night!

I also like the floor-less room that it offers, giving extra space for your gear, or just a place to gather and eat with your family.

Who It’s For

It has specifically been designed for 6 people. If you are looking for a tent that can house 6 people then this COULD be for you.

However, not all tents can house the exact amount of people that they say comfortably. Usually you need to be all lined up like sardines if you want to fit everyone inside.

So I’m going to say, it can occupy 6 people, but if you want to sleep comfortably – then I would suggest a minimum of 4 people.

5 people will work too, but you’ll be pushing it.

Pricing & Purchase Details

This tent can be purchased from Amazon.com.

But I would highly suggest you see the current price first, because it changes often.

The price usually sits between $130 and $170.

When you purchase through Amazon, you get a 30 day return policy. This is so you can get a full refund if you don’t like it, or get a repair if you find any defects on the product.

Oh..and free shipping for all orders made to the U.S.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • It has been found to be a high quality tent (not all tents from Coleman are made out to be good as others say), with a lot of durability
  • The center height is at 6’10”, making it a lot easier for tall people to stand and move around comfortably. As we all know, it’s difficult to find a tent that can allow them to do that
  • If you have pitched a lot of tents before, you will find this one to be a simple to set-up too, especially for a tent of this size
  • As many people have claimed in the reviews, it is extremely windproof, meaning you won’t have problems with the tent falling over in rough winds

Cons

  • This is NOT a light tent, so if you’re planning on backpacking somewhere with it, it is not the best idea
  • Not the best choice for cold weather camping. If you plan on camping anywhere where temperatures can drop under 30s , then choose a winter tent
  • A large group of people saying it isn’t waterproof and will leak nonstop

Do I Recommend This Tent?

Even though it has been found to work well in a rain storm, there are a large number of reviews complaining about it leaking, and sometimes a lot.

I highly suggest placing a tarp over top of the tent.

This is just because the roof is made of mesh, so there’s a small possibility that the rain can come under the fly and into the tent, especially if the tents blowing sideways.

I don’t want to steer you in the wrong direction, but this tent will work great in places where you won’t be experiencing rain, because it IS high quality and durable.

It’s just not the best during a rain storm, your safety is not guaranteed, while the rain fly and seams aren’t as great as the manufacturers are advertising them to be.

So I will have to say no, this tent is not recommended!

Alternative/Similar Tents

If you want a tent that is NOT going to leak, it’s just as high quality and durable too, and in the same price range, then I highly suggest you read my review on the Coleman Evanston Screened Tent.

One other tent I like is the Coleman Naugatuck Tent. Although it’s a little pricier than the other tents above, at least it’s still designed for 6 people and going to keep the rain out.

This one doesn’t have the screened room like the Evanston though.

My Final Opinion

I really wanted to like this tent, but there was just so much negative feedback regarding it.

And most of the complaints were to do with the rain getting inside it.

There’s no way I can recommend a tent like that, I have kids too, and I know how important it is to keep you and your loved ones safe while you’re out in Mother Nature.

A tent is your first line of defense against the elements, and the Coleman WeatherMaster 6 Person Screened Tent is not the best choice to get the job done.

You know already know why I don’t like this tent, so I’m just going to let it out and say it.

Final Verdict – NOT recommended!
