I have already reviewed the 2 person version of this tent, however this one will be my Kelty Grand Mesa 4 Tent review.

Just because the 2 person tent is a good choice and good quality for its money that does not mean that this one will be the same. All tents are different, with each having their own pros and cons.

I will find out if this tent is any good and write down my findings in this article. I hope you enjoy it!

Product Overview

The Kelty Grand Mesa 4 Tent has been described by the manufacturers to have as much quality as the 2 person version, but because it’s bigger it provides enough room for a small family.

The flooring space is a little over 50 square feet, and also includes a vestibule room (an area under the rain fly to place your backpacks).

They are claiming that this tent is for a family who wants something of high quality, yet don’t want to fork out on a $300 tent.

What Makes This Tent Unique?

What I like the most was actually the affordability of this tent. For the amount of quality it seems like something to consider.

What actually caught me by surprise was the ventilation. The all-mesh wall panels really make this tent breath. The design is also looks great and is bound to get the looks at public campsites.

The seams are factory seam-sealed, making this tent ready to go as soon as it’s delivered.

What Are Its Specifications?

Product Name: Kelty Grand Mesa 4 Tent

Cheapest Place To Buy: Amazon.com

Weight: 7lb 7 oz

Dimensions: 80″ high, 55″ wide

Color: Grey

Guarantee: 30 day return policy

Who It’s For

It is classed as a family tent, so I would say it works just as designed to, however if you want 4 fully-grown adults in this tent it would be a tight squeeze. 2 adults and 2 children will be a good choice though.

3 adults will be the maximum that I would have in this tent, for the simple fact that any more and it will be an uncomfortable experience.

It’s kind of lightweight for a 4 person tent, so I would say it works great for a group of backpackers, especially if you spread the weight between 2-3 people.

Pricing & Purchase Details

You can now get this tent from Amazon.com

However the price changes between $150 and $250, so I’d suggest you check it out on Amazon for the exact cost.

Your tent will be given a 30 day return policy. If your tent gets any defects you can send it back for a repair, or send it back for a refund if you want to.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • What I like the most is that the material is actually top notch and does great combating the rain and strong winds(it will hold up in roughly 40 mph of wind, however 45 and over will probably be pushing it)
  • The set up is extremely fast and simple to pitch and can be done in 5 minutes. It’s really sturdy after it’s up too
  • The zippers on this tent work smoothly and effortlessly. A lot of tents have trouble with these (this is usually the first thing to break on most tents)
  • The mesh walls provide awesome ventilation. You can have a full view of the night sky in the summer, or simply put the rain fly on and still have enough ventilation to stop condensation build-up

Cons

  • Will probably need a tarp as a footprint. This will conserve the bottom of the tent for years to come
  • A little on the expensive side

Alternative/Similar Tents

If you want something a little cheaper but is still capable of standing in tough winds and just as water-resistant, however it isn’t as lightweight but makes a good choice for car camping, then you need to read my review on the Slumberjack 4 Person tent.

The ALPS Mountaineering 3 person tent has much more vestibule room space (2 vestibules), and also performs amazingly in harsh weather. It’s in the same price range as the Kelty Grand and a little lighter too.

However it’s only a 3 person tent if that’s what you are more into.

Do I Recommend This Tent?

It’s able to fit a queen-sized air mattress, which is rare to find in a 4 person tent. The amount of quality this tent has is amazing. It will keep you dry in torrential downfalls and stay standing in some rough winds.

It’s not the cheapest 4 person tent but that’s because of how much value that you will get from it. I would say you can easily get your moneys worth out of it.

It also isn’t the lightest for backpacking but it can still get the job done if need be. I wouldn’t mind getting one for myself!

I’m already in love with this tent and now know which one I’m getting if I ever need a 4 man tent.

Yes, definitely recommended!

My Final Opinion

As the old saying goes “you get what you pay for”, and I find that to be extremely true with this tent. It’s not cheap so you won’t get a cheap/low quality tent.

You are paying (on average) less than $200, so you are going to get a tent that will be worth it. That’s what I like the most about this one, Kelty really make good tents and this one is no different.

I couldn’t really find much negative feedback for this tent, other than a tarp is recommended to protect your investment so it will last longer and help you get your moneys worth.

For the reasons outlined above, and the simple fact that it works extraordinary in rough weather and very affordable for the amount of value you get, the Kelty Grand Mesa 4 Tent is highly recommended!
