Are you considering getting the Marmot Tungsten 3P Tent?
As an avid camper I know you can’t judge the performance of a tent by taking a quick look at it, neither does the price have anything to do with it.
I’ve seen cheap/low quality tents outperform more expensive ones by a mile!
The trick is to do some research before making your final decision and conclusion.
Fortunately, I’ve done the groundwork and found out the true quality of tents and placed them on my website.
This is my Marmot Tungsten 3P Tent review.
Enjoy!
High Value for Money
Summary:
The Marmot Tungsten 3P Tent is a great camping tent but also light enough for backpacking if split between 2 people.
The double D-doors are perfect for when you’re camping with 3 people, the mesh promotes stargazing opportunities AND there’s a massive vestibule for everyone’s gear.
The price is right and it handles rough weather like a boss! This is a no-brainer if you ask me.
HIGHLY recommended!

Product Overview
This tent allows 3 people to sleep comfortably while being completely safe from the elements.
It is designed to maximize living space so you’re not actually cramped up inside unlike other/similar tents, and you’ll actually feel like you can breath inside!
There’s 2 D-shaped doors for maximum convenience especially at nighttime when you need a pit stop and during the daytime for cross-flow ventilation 🙂
The 2 vestibules offer storage space for when you’re out in the wilderness and no car to store your belongings.
Marmot have gone the extra mile to ensure it’s ready-to-go and stays that way for many years.
That’s why they’ve taped the seams, it’s PU coated and contains a very strong (68-denier) polyester material for the floor and rain fly.
Remove the rain fly and get a full view of the clear night sky thanks to the no-see-um mesh canopy. Yes, it offers extreme bug protection!
Three DAC Press-Fit poles and color-coded fly and clips make for easy setup while the lampshade pocket creates an even glow of light throughout the tent (place a headlamp inside).
Three internal storage pockets are on this tent for keeping your personal belongings close at hand.
Features That Stick Out The Most
No-See-Um Mesh – The mesh material means you can remove the rain fly on the clear/warmer nights and have a FULL, unobstructed view of the clear night sky.
Double D-Doors
There’s a good reason why so many manufacturers use D-doors. They’re massive so it’s easy to get in and out, and you can keep both of them open during the day for epic cross-flow ventilation.
Vestibule
Vestibules provide a place for you to store your gear out of the elements and in a safe space. These work perfectly for when you’re out backpacking and nowhere near a vehicle.
Enhanced Living Space – The manufacturers created this tent with more livability in mind, and they have done that extremely well. The walls are more vertical than others and means you can sit up COMFORTABLY without touching the walls.
What I Like
Stargazing Opportunities – I personally like how you can drift off to sleep under the stars and enjoy a peaceful nights sleep while still staying protected from the bugs!
Extra Living Space – If you’re an avid camper you already know what it’s like to feel all cramped inside on a rainy day. However, because the walls are much more vertical, this doesn’t happen and it makes for a more pleasant stay in the great outdoors.
What I Don’t Like
No Bathtub Floor – Bathtub floors create that EXTRA protection from groundwater, especially in torrential rain. This tent doesn’t offer that so I’m a little worried at how it will perform in hours of a downpour.
Although there is no complaints, so I’m sure there are no issues.
Who Should Use This Tent?
This is the perfect tent for wilderness camping for the simple reason that there’s a vestibule for storage.
It is a 3-season tent and means it’s perfect for anyone that’s camping in the summer.
Ways to use this tent:
- 1 person + gear
- 1 person + dog + gear
- 1 person + child + gear
- 1 person + dog + child + gear
- 2 people + gear
- 2 people + child + gear
- 2 people + dog + gear
- 2 people + 2 small dogs + gear
- 3 people + gear
Where To Get The Marmot Tungsten 3P Tent
This tent can be purchased from Amazon.com and is currently my preferred place of purchase.
Why?
They have free shipping, fast deliveries, a 30-day return policy, a great tracking system and even more with Amazon Prime members!
Do I Recommend This Tent To Anyone?
Although it does have some flaws, they are very minor and so are the negative reviews.
Somebody gave it a 1-star rating because they received a used one. However, that has absolutely nothing to do with the quality and performance of it!
That means the negative reviews are virtually non-existent on Amazon.
Furthermore, everyone else loved their purchase and cannot recommend it enough.
It is extremely waterproof, windproof and has many great features useful for 3-seasons (summer, spring, fall).
I hands down recommend the Marmot Tungsten 3P Tent for all the reasons mentioned above!
Similar Tents
A tent that’s around the same price range but is much lighter (so you can go solo backpacking with)–and has much BETTER customer service–is the Kelty TN3 Tent. It’s not as livable but definitely does have similar features.
The Big Agnes Copper Spur UL3 is a little more expensive, however, it has more quality and will likely last longer too. This also means it can handle rougher weather conditions than the Marmot while staying in a low weight range.
Final Opinion
I have absolutely no issues with the Marmot Tungsten 3P Tent.
The price is right for what you get and the negative reviews are minor, OR depending on how you look at it, they don’t even exist!
Marmot may have bad customer service but at the end of the day you’ll probably never have to talk with them as everything can be done through Amazon.
This tent is very windproof and waterproof and has no trouble keeping you safe from the elements.
The proof is in the pudding and because of that I would have to say the Marmot Tungsten 3P Tent is HIGHLY recommended!

Sounds like a good tent, I like the raised wall feature, I can see by the pics that it gives a lot more room. If there were 3 people camping is the vestibule big enough to fit 3 full backpacks? The weight is not to bad either. Oh yea, what do u mean by a bathtub floor? Do u mean there is no ground sheet in the bottom? Thanks for the review.
Carl
There is definitely enough room for 3 full backpacks my friend.
A bathtub floor means the seams come up a few inches up the sides of the tent – creating a bathtub shape. The groundsheet is 100% waterproof but a bathtub floor stops water seeping through the seams.
I really like this tent a lot. I need a new tent and this might be it. I too have a concern about the bathtub bottom, since I live in the Pacific Northwest where we get a fair amount of rain. Even if it is not raining, because we get so much rain I am concerned about ground wetness. But as you note, just gotta try it out and see. I was wondering what the vestibule looks like for packing the tent. Is it carry friendly for longer hikes to campsites?
Well to be honest, there is no one complaining about the waterproofing so I have no reason to think otherwise.
People are enjoying their purchase and are saying it’s extremely waterproof, so I guess it doesn’t need a bathtub floor.
The vestibule is actually just an overhang created when you place the rain fly over the tent. I explain exactly what a vestibule is here.
Thanks for this great review! I have been wanting to get back into camping more regularly which I haven’t done in years and my fiancé and I have been looking into tents. We currently mostly go camping places where her parents’ RV is parked. This sounds like a great option for us and we’ll definitely check it out!
It certainly is a great option brother.
It would be perfect for somebody like you too since it’s almost guaranteed to stay standing in strong winds and keep the rain out.
The stargazing feature makes it a no-brainer!
Well it looks like I know which tent I’m gonna buy for Spring Break! Thanks for this review Brandon. Very insightful and helpful with the pros and cons. As far as the weight, I’m sure it ain’t nothing but a good ol ruck march. Haha
I appreciate it.

Haha, I absolutely agree with you mate. Just get a decent backpack and you’re good to go.
This is a very thorough review. I love the video you have placed in the review as it provides that added info to help make the buying decision even easier. I also really like the no-see-um mesh that allows you to see the night sky from inside the tent. What a great idea. I will be looking for the Marmot Tungsten series next time I am looking to purchase a tent.
Thanks for the great info.
Hello Ray. I’m glad you found this review helpful. Please get in touch if you need any help in the future 🙂
Hey Brandon,
Thanks for the information on this tent. I’m not really a camper, but I’ve considered having a tent handy for potential emergency situations, such as if I ever have to pack up my family quickly and evacuate for some reason. What is the storability of the Marmot Tungsten 3P? Could it easily be stored in a vehicle without taking up too much room? If not, do you have a recommendation for such a purpose?
A bug-out tent? That’s great!
This would be the perfect choice since the weight won’t be an issue and the product dimensions are only: 8 x 22 inches, so quite compact if you ask me.
Thanks for the comment Josh, and I hope this answers your question.
Hi Brandon,
Thanks indeed for the comprehensive review of the Marmot Tungsten 3P Tent. When I saw the picture I was a bit worried about the strength but after reading the review I realized that it has five stars. This means it’s an awesome tent and the fact that you say it can accommodate three people then it’s extremely versatile. I will consider checking on it because I seldom camp and it’s something worth exploring.
This is a great review.
Keep up the good work.
It’s not easy finding a tent that ACTUALLY stands up to the massive expectations, so I was a little surprised at how well this one performs.
Yes it can accommodate 3 people and there’s even a vestibule for everyone’s gear.
Great review, Brandon! Thank you for sharing this. I love that you have listed a lot of information and very helpful pros and cons. With summer coming soon, I was actually looking for a good tent to purchase, to take the family camping. Our old tent has finally seen its last summer the year before. Would you recommend this for a family of four? Two adults and 2 small kids?
You’re absolutely welcome!
You definitely need an updated tent, one with the latest technology that’s proven to hold out the rain and stand strong in the wind.
However, the Marmot Tungsten 3P Tent might not be for you since you need to accommodate 2 adults and 2 small children.
I would recommend a 4-person tent at the bare MINIMUM! The NEMO Wagontop 4P Tent is my #1 recommendation to you.
As you’ll find out, you will get to your campsite and realize your tent is far too small and wished you had got a bigger one just to feel more comfortable and less claustrophobic.
That’s why I recommend a bigger tent than you actually need.
Good luck.
Great review, Brandon! I especially like the no-see-um mesh canopy so you can star gaze. Nothing like camping and having bugs eat you up at night or buzzing in your ears…My daughter and son-n-law go camping in the desert. I’ll pass this on to them, thank you! 🙂
I can’t stand bugs buzzing in my ear all damn night. I usually take ear plugs just to drown out the sound, unless I’m by a flowing river or beach I’ll just listen to that instead.
great article and very informative about the pros and cons of this tent. I note that you say it’s not ideal for backpacking as it’s a bit heavy, which one would you recommend? I’m planning a hiking trip and want something that’s light enough to carry all day. Thanks so much, cheers, Karen
It all depends on what size rating you’re after, as every tent is different and unique in its own way.
But since you want something that’s light enough to carry all day, I’ll choose one of the most lightest tents I’ve reviewed thus far: The Big Agnes Fly Creek 1 Platinum Tent! (total weight of 1 lb 13 oz)
Hey Brandon, I like the way you have not only pros, but also the cons. as well. I like the honesty. I think it is great that this tent allows you to stargaze because that is my favorite part about camping. Thank you for the thorough review!
Thank you Miranda. Stargazing on a bright summer night is simply amazing. I would recommend every single person try it least once in their life.
Good to see that you’re already doing it 🙂 Cheers and have an amazing day.
Brandon,
Looks like a good tent for camping in one place for a while. What would you think about this tent for canoe camping.
My current tent has a lantern hook in the middle for a hanging light, does the Marmot tent have one.
When you state that you can share packing this tent on a hike, is it in two bags or how does it separate into two parts for packing.
John
Definitely a great choice for canoe camping John. It is not overly heavy nor ultra lightweight either. It’s the perfect weight for it.
It has a lampshade pocket for a flashlight instead of the lantern hook, but works just as good nonetheless, and probably even better since it lets off of an even glow of light.
You can share the weight for backpacking/hiking simply by separating the poles and stakes from the body and rain fly.
Thanks for the comment and I hope this answers your question 🙂
Have a great day.
I love this tent! I even love the color. I like that it is a 3 person tent. I only need it for 2, so that makes it a bit more roomier which is what I like. I don’t back pack per se….did a lot of that growing up. But, my son and I love to camp. I have been looking for a better tent. Ours is a 2 person, and just a bit small. When the weather turns bad, we like to be able to “stay indoors” and play games etc. I think as long as the tent is made well, it is okay if customer service is not so great. I think the price is right too! Glad I found this information!
Yep, that is a common issue within the camping world so you’re not alone. Most people think purchasing a 2-person tent for 2 people is going to be enough room. It never is enough and the reason why you need to go at least 1-2 sizes higher.
More on tent size ratings here(and the confusion around them).
Glad you found this review helpful 🙂 I hope to see you around more. Good luck.
