The NEMO Blaze 2P Tent Has A Bad Floor But Keeps You Safe And Dry In Bad Weather

Posted on March 29, 2018 by Brandon

Is the NEMO Blaze 2P Tent good quality and going to last a long time?

In my opinion it has a hefty price tag but that doesn’t always mean it’s up to everyone’s expectations.

In this NEMO Blaze 2P Tent review I’m going to find out everything it offers, the features and the flaws and then come up with my own conclusion.

NEMO aren’t well-known within the camping community, however, I’ve reviewed one of their tents already and it has performed beyond expectations.

Lets get started!

Yes, what I’m reviewing
The lightest most livable tent on the market!
  • Functionality
  • Waterproof
  • Strength
  • Value
4.7

Summary:

The NEMO 2P Blaze sets the new standard for the lightest, livable tent on the market. It is incredibly lightweight, offers great livability and packed with a bunch of features.

The major downsides are the delicate floor and bad vestibule design. Other than that I highly recommend it for the many reasons outlined below 🙂

Great job NEMO!

 Pros  Cons
  • The most livable, lightest tent on the market at the time of writing this article
  • Highly waterproof – it doesn’t even leak in a downpour
  • Very windproof – some claim you only need the stakes to keep the vestibules taught
  • Feature-packed – includes 2 vestibules, 2 doors, light pocket, stargazing views and more

  • Delicate floor (the footprint is recommended)
  • Footprint sold separately
  • No setup instructions
  • Vestibules aren’t 100% reliable

Product Overview

This tent has been specifically designed for the minimalist camper, providing enough room to sit up comfortably.

Because of this design, it created a new “standard” for the most livable tent in its weight class!

It is non-freestanding but that doesn’t stop it from being ultra convenient.

It actually has HALF the pole attachments other lightweight tents require and sets up in half the time, with superior stability!

The ultralight material has been optimized to the max with waterproofing, durability and resistance.

It comes included with a free repair kit but the additional footprint is sold separately.

What’s more is that the stuff sack is dual-staged, meaning it can be split between two people to spread the load and make your backpack even lighter!

Features That Stick Out The Most

Ultra lightweight – This thing is ultra lightweight – has a minimum weight of 2 pounds or 2.7 pounds packed. This means it is the second lightest 2-person tent I’ve reviewed thus far

Innovative Pole Configuration – This type of pole construction gives the tent great strength, less poles needed than its competitors and sets up in half the time

Light Pocket – Place a headlamp or flashlight inside the light pocket and receive an evenly-diffused glow of light throughout, which is good to use after a long day and you want to sit and read a book

Two Doors – There’s one door on each side of the tent, allowing each camper to freely get in and out without climbing over each other. This also provides great cross-flow ventilation during the day so it doesn’t feel like you’re in a sauna

Two Vestibules – You can store your equipment out of bad weather and out of your tent by keeping it all in the two vestibules provided. They are NOT 100% waterproof so you’ll need to place your backpacks in a large garbage bag to ensure your gear stays dry (susceptible to side rain)

The rain fly and vestibule

Divvy Stuff Sack – NEMO specialize in double divvy sacks so you can split the weight up between you and your adventure partner. This is a surprisingly great concept if you ask me!

What I Like

Most Livable Lightweight Tent – I have to say I am extremely impressed with the NEMO brand. They’ve gone and set a new standard for livability on lightweight tents.

Stargazing and panoramic views – To top everything off, there are stargazing opportunities and full panoramic views thanks to the no-see-um mesh material on the ceiling and walls. These also help with that all-important cross-flow ventilation and battling condensation through the night

What I Don’t Like

Footprint sold separately – The tent is on the expensive side as it is. It would be nice to see the footprint included in the purchase just to bring the overall cost down a little.

Fortunately it is NOT mandatory but more of a nice-to-have, which is to help protect your investment.

Who Should Use This Tent?

The NEMO Blaze 2P Tent is designed with weight in mind without compromising livability.

If you’re looking for ultralight materials without feeling squished, then you should definitely consider getting one for yourself.

It works great for wilderness camping, backpacking across the country and even overnight hiking.

Ways to use this tent:

  • 1 person + gear
  • 1 person + dog + gear
  • 1 person + child + gear
  • 1 person + small child + small dog + gear (although may be a little squishy)
  • 2 people + gear

Where To Get The NEMO Wagontop 4P Tent

This tent is sold on Amazon.com but the price varies. You can check the current price here.

I prefer Amazon over any other outdoor website for the simple reason that they have a 30-day return policy, free shipping and even next day delivery.

Plus they always offer the cheapest prices!

Do I Recommend This Tent?

There isn’t much reviews for this tent but the ones it has received have all had nice things to say about it.

Everyone loves the design and the fact that it’s lightweight but livable enough to sit up in.

This makes the perfect tent for an extended wilderness excursion.

It’s extremely stable in strong winds and almost doesn’t even need the stakes, other than to hold the vestibules taught.

It doesn’t leak in torrential rain, its feature-packed and well designed.

I mean, what more could you ask for. The only downside is the weak floor but that’s what the footprint is for.

It may be a little expensive but it hands down wins the award for the most lightest and livable tent on the market (in my opinion, of course).

Well done NEMO. This tent is HIGHLY recommended!

Similar Tents

There’s a lot of other good 2-person tents on the market. One other option is the Black Diamond HiLight. It has no vestibule and won’t fit anyone over 6 foot, however, it is cheaper and doesn’t require a footprint.

The Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent is also great. It’s even cheaper than the Black Diamond and stands like a brick house in strong winds. Yes, it’s a little heavy but a good alternative nonetheless.

Final Opinion

I found a few cons but in my opinion, they are very minor considering how much it offers.

I think it’s worth mentioning that the vestibules come up high. There’s a chance for side rain to make its way under the rain fly (making your equipment wet that you leave outside).

To avoid this, wrap your backpacks up in large garbage bags. It isn’t mandatory but more of a precaution so you don’t wake up with all your valuables soaked!

Other than that I have no issues with this tent.

It does exactly as advertised and has no problems keeping you safe and dry when the weather gets fierce!

I can’t recommend the NEMO Blaze 2P Tent enough.

Highly recommended!

I’m hearing NEMO Blaze 2P Tent for the first time. This is a must-read blog for everyone who has a leaning to go for a camp somewhere.
This tent sounds fantastic for its light-weight condition along with waterproof facilities.

I wish every reader to follow the detailed explanation here and not simply buy tents blindly while also upholding the costs and durability.

Wishing you all the best in your niche.

Thanks man. And you are right, if you blindly purchase a tent without knowing its pros and cons you are setting yourself up for a bad outdoor adventure and I’m not even slightly joking.

    Hi Brandon,

You just found yourself a loyal reader. I loved camping back in the day but life brought me all over the place and took me away from enjoying the outdoors fully. This is a great review of a solid tent. I love that you even included a video review of it as well. While I definitely understand a good tent is an investment, this one may be a bit out of my price range. What tent would you recommend that’s 1 price tier down?

Sure – I have plenty of great alternatives in the cheaper price range. One you’ll really enjoy is the Marmot Limelight 2P Tent. Good luck brother!

Hi Brandon, I hope your readers take your advice. You certainly know this stuff inside and out. I do encourage everyone to do their research before going out and buying a tent. A poor purchasing decision can ruin an entire camping trip. Great work Brandon, I’m glad I’ve discovered your site,

Research is HIGHLY important when it comes to tents. Some are just downright bad even when they don’t look like it. You never know the quality and weatherproofing until you dive deep into the reviews. Glad I can help speed the process along 🙂

I’m a wilderness hunter that spends a lot of time camping in the back country and I love the fact that you can split the weight with your partner. We are always looking for lighter and more efficient gear. Keep up the good work and I hope to see more gear reviews in the future.

This looks like a pretty good tent, but it’s a little small for me. I have young kids. going on over night hikes isn’t an option for the foreseeable future for me so I don’t really care about weight. Is there something you would recommend for a family of five?

Okay good. Since weight won’t be an issue, so many families have fallen in love with the CORE 6 Person Instant Tent and I’m sure you will too. If you need something bigger, just ask. I’m always happy to help.

As I mentioned above, the MSR Elixir 2 is a great alternative. It’s cheaper and more suitable for anyone on a smaller budget.

My wife and I have been looking for a 2 person tent for a backpacking trip we are going on this summer in the Rocky Mountains. I like that this tent is lightweight and has a great rain cover. As with all tents, there are going to be positives and negatives, so the floor is one thing to consider. The price isn’t too bad, but I may like something that is a little bit less expensive. Thanks for sharing your review, it makes my shopping experience easier.

Hi Brandon. I’m really impressed with the NEMO Blaze 2P Tent review and you articulate it very well. I have looked at a lot of tents online but nothing is as good on what I see here. So lightweight and easy to put together which is so convenient, I know where to come to when I ever decided to buy a tent whenever I start traveling and I want to thank you for highlighting and sharing this. I check your site again soon. thanks again.

Thanks for writing this review. My girlfriend loves to hike and we need another one. The $100 one we bought at Walmart is just completely falling apart now. We are looking for another one. We want something that isn’t so cheap. However, we don’t want to spend $500 for this one. Do you have any recommendation for a tent that is under $350, though?

It seems many people aren’t willing to fork out on a $400 plus tent unless they’re going extreme/wilderness camping.

There are many alternative 2-person tents and I’ve already mentioned some good ones in the comments above. If you still need a hand, hit me up anytime as I’m always online and willing to help 😀

Wow, this Nemo Blaze looks hot! I didn’t know about the poor flooring, but glad there is a footprint to help with that. Last time I went camping i was wishing we had a higher quality tent, and this definitely fits the bill.
We live in the mountains though with high wind speeds, do you think it would do well?

It’s one of the cons but at least there is a footprint available for anyone that wishes to protect their investment even more.

I’m happy to say that the NEMO Blaze WILL handle tough winds and heavy rain, without fail actually!

Great info on the NEMO Blaze tent. I especially like the Light Pocket feature and the ability to stargaze. The video is great–it helps to see what it looks like in a real setting and see the features. I am thinking about going camping with my husband and 2 small dogs. None of us are very big–Do you think think the Nemo Blaze is big enough?

Sadly there will not be enough room for 2 people + 2 dogs, even if everyone is small. It will probably be doable, however, at the end of the day it’s going to be a squishy sleep. I just reviewed the Marmot Tungsten 3P Tent and I think this will be a better choice for you.
