This tent is far from affordable, so what makes it stand out from its competitors?
NEMO is by no means a popular brand so we can’t even figure out if their tents are going to be good or not.
This means more research is in order to find out what we are dealing with.
This is my NEMO Wagontop 4P Tent review, where I will be figuring out the pros and cons, flaws and quality and then coming up with my own conclusion.
Enjoy.
Tall center height, vertical walls and ample storage make this tent!
Summary:
This amazing tent is designed just perfectly. It features a tall center height and vertical walls to enhance the living space, and only has a couple of minor cons!
It’s perfect for a group of friends or small family due to the ample room and storage area (front vestibule).
The next time I need a 4-person tent, the NEMO Wagontop 4P Tent is first on my priority list!
Great tent with many features other tents don’t offer 🙂 Highly recommended.

Product Overview
The NEMO Wagontop 4P Camping Tent definitely has a unique design, not what you normally see on your camping trips anyway.
It features a center height of 6.5 feet and comfortably sleeps 4 people.
Because of this “out-of-the-ordinary” design, it makes for an unforgettable camping experience like no other.
There are extra large screened windows on all 4 sides for battling condensation while promoting great ventilation during the daytime, which also adds an aesthetic, “homey” feeling.
NEMO are constantly evolving within the industry and experiencing with different materials often (they partner with other manufacturers and go through rigorous testing phases).
They know what works best with what and have built the NEMO Wagontop 4P Tent with weight, performance, quality and durability in mind.
Furthermore, the poles are reinforced specifically to handle high winds while staying extremely strong thanks to the Intersection Hub locks, but more on that below.
Features That Stick Out The Most
Large screened windows on all sides – There are a total of 4 screened windows, all provide ventilation while stopping condensation buildup during the night. The mesh is small enough to keep all bugs out too!
Vertical wall design – I’m a big fan of vertical walls for the simple reason that you can actually sit up without touching the walls. You’re able to hang out and play cards or board games on a rainy day BUT without that claustrophobic feeling.
Comfortable height – In addition to the vertical walls, NEMO have gone all out to ensure tall people can stand and walk around without hunching over and ending up sore at the end of the trip. It features a 6.5 feet center height which is more than enough for you tall folks (luckily that isn’t me).
Pole Supported Technology – The 2-hubbed pole design ensures an easy setup and stays resistant in high winds simply because they become attached to the body itself. What a great idea that is!
Removable vestibule – The vestibule is good for storing your equipment, however, can be removed if it’s sunny outside and you want the best views and cross-flow ventilation.
No separate rain fly – The rain fly (waterproofing) is actually attached to the tent itself. Doing this creates less separate parts and makes for an easier setup.
Duffel-bag carrying case – Because this tent is so huge, the manufacturers have provided a large duffel bag to make travelling and storing a breeze.
What I Like
Vertical walls and tall center height – Tall people have a hard time finding tents they can fit in as it is.
I’m an instant fan when manufacturers have tall people in mind while they’re in the design stage.
I am definitely not tall but I like to stand and change my clothes without hunching over, so this is a great bonus 🙂
Removable vestibule – These are rare to find on smaller tents so it’s a great little feature, especially when the weathers nice or you have a car for storing your equipment.
Just remove the vestibule and enjoy an unobstructed view of the great outdoors!
What I Don’t Like
Zero stargazing opportunities – This is a 3-season tent so it’s more than likely going to be used in the summertime.
However, there’s absolutely no way you can remove the rain fly.
This eliminates all stargazing opportunities completely.
Although it’s not a no-brainer, it is still really nice to have especially when you know the night is clear and going to stay that way.
Who Should Use This Tent?
A small family or group of friends will definitely enjoy everything this tent offers.
It makes the perfect summer, spring and fall tent simply because it stands strong in unexpected high winds and doesn’t leak in the rain.
It’s useless for backpacking but works like a charm for car camping, backyard events or music festivals.
Ways to use this tent:
- 2 people + gear
- 2 people + dog + gear
- 2 people + child + gear
- 2 people + child + dog + gear
- 2 people + 2 children + gear
- 3 people + child + gear
- 3 people + dog + gear
- 4 people + gear
Where To Get The NEMO Wagontop 4P Tent
This tent can now be purchased from the popular online store Amazon.com – the same place I get my outdoor equipment from.
The fact that they have fast deliveries, free shipping and a perfect tracking system makes me stay with them through thick and thin.
Of course the 30-day return policy makes it even more difficult to shop elsewhere too!
You can send it back and get a full refund EVEN if you didn’t like your purchase (no questions asked).
You can also send it back and get free repairs if you experience any in those first 30-days of delivery.

Do I Recommend This Tent To Anyone?
There are a couple of complaints about the wind proofing but there are also people claiming that it performs like a beast in strong winds.
It’s clear to me that the ones having their tent blow over are the ones pitching it in the wrong places, most likely where the wind is smashing the front or rear.
Try to face the sides to the wind instead, as there is no way for the wind to catch it and lift it up otherwise.
Other than that, there are no other negative reviews (apart from the difficult setup), which is great to see considering the hefty price tag!
Yes, I hands down recommend the NEMO Wagontop 4P Tent!
Similar Tents
If you’re a little worried about this tent falling over in strong winds, you can’t go wrong with the Eureka Assault Outfitter 4. What was once released to the military only has recently become available to the public. That in itself should be the selling point because there’s absolutely no chance for it to fall over in strong winds. It truly is a beast and a half!
The Big Agnes Copper Spur UL4 is another top quality tent with lots of features, however, mother nature stains it easily and the non-included footprint is recommended to help protect your investment. All in all, at least it eliminates the wind issue once again.
Final Opinion
You can’t go wrong with the NEMO Wagontop 4P Tent as long as you pitch it in the correct place and practice putting it together in your backyard before going out on your journey.
Because it’s not easy to pitch, it takes a little getting use to before you can start pitching it in 5-10 minutes.
I’m in love with this amazing family tent and plan on getting one myself for all our future family adventures.
It is just so roomy with lots of great qualities you won’t find on many other 4-person tents.
I could go on but I’m sure you know where I’m going with this 😀
I have to give the NEMO 4P a big thumbs up, as it exceeded my expectations and performs like a beast in the great outdoors!
Highly recommended!

Hi,
We as a family travel quite a lot. We travel to most places. We are quite a larger family so a tent is necessary for the teen kids. As My teens are very tall too this seems the perfect thing for us. Can you imagine a teens of nearing six ft standing in a normal size tent. No It’s impossible.
I think this suits us down to the ground as we go on our travels.
Thank you so much for this. It has saved me endless amounts of time looking for the perfect tent, I have the right tent here.
You are a gem.
Thank you Regards Deborah 😉
Yes, you are absolutely correct. This would be the perfect option considering it has a tall center height for those giant teens of yours 😛
You do not need to look any further as I think you’ve found the right one for you. Give us a bell if you still need help.
Hi, and thanks for this in-depth review.
I am actually looking for a 4 person tent. I like this one because of it’s upright construction.
Why is it called Wagontop? first I thought it was made for the back of a pick-up.
It looks very robust and being waterproof is an absolute must here in Switzerland.
I would like to take it to some music festivals with my family. It is a bit expensive but it looks absolutely worth it.
LOL, that is a strange name for a tent I highly agree. Maybe the manufacturers wanted it to look like a camper or RV of some sort. Who knows to be honest…
Yes – it is an expensive tent – however, when you and your families safety is at risk you simply can’t go cheap or you face massive risks. Good call on going the more expensive route buddy.
This looks like the equivalent of a 5-star hotel for the camping world! This sounds like it would be perfect for my family of four, including one rapidly-growing, almost-teenage boy. It’s nice to be able to stand up in a tent comfortably. That’s a bummer about not being able to stargaze out of it, but I guess you can set up chairs to do that instead. Thanks for the great review!
Hahaha, yes Christina I would have to agree about this tent being a 5-star hotel, especially with a price like this!
Very informative. I used to be a big tent guy back in the day, I wish I had a chance to see reviews like this back in the day before buying several horrible tents myself. I now camp mostly in a cabin, but not one with many amenities so I will be checking out your site for other things. Thank you for this.
Sadly, many of us had to purchase downright bad tents before the age of the internet and reviews to tell us if we’re making the right choice or not.
We are in a new age and I’m glad I can help people find tents that suit them perfectly.
Thanks for the comment and I wish you all the best. Hit me up if you need any help 🙂
This tent looks awesome! I’m also not a tall guy but hate having to hunch over every time I’m in the tent to change clothes so the height is great. I love the vestibule for keeping gear protected a bit that you may not want to bring inside the tent like super muddy boots. I wish it had a way to remove the rain fly for stargazing since that’s one of the great things about being out away from the city lights. It looks like it may have enough room to support our use: 2 people + 3 dogs + gear.
Sameeeee. This tent would be flawLESS if you were able to remove the rain fly and stargaze. Maybe NEMO will hear our cries for help and make it happen for us 🙂 Hey, a mass outcry has worked many times in the past, so you never know.
2 people + 3 dogs and gear is completely fine. There is certainly enough room for everyone to sleep comfortably.
This tent looks like it would be great for car camping, and having a tent that I could stand up in would be a nice change for once. Thanks for the great review.
It sure is CJ. Glad I could help 🙂
I have been wanting to go camping and have been looking for a tent. I didn’t know which ones were good and big enough. It has a lot of things I am looking for. Thanks for the information.
I’m happy the NEMO Wagontop 4P has all the features you need, Kasey. Good luck on your adventure!
Hi. As I take a look at the NEMO Wagontop 4P Tent , like you, I like its vertical walls. Being able to stand and sit upright is a good feature to relatively simulate home conditions while on a camping trip, or even a backyard activity. Comfort is most important to me, especially outdoors when I don’t sleep in my bed 🙂
Do you think the price is fair for its great features?
Thanks for the review!!
Great minds think alike aye, Gigi?
And yes I definitely do agree with the price tag. Everything it offers is great and the quality is right up there too.
The only big downside is having no mesh ceiling but everything else is amazing. Hope this helps.
I’m so glad I could find out more about tents, this whole website is like meant for me.
It’s so useful, thank you for suggesting it.
Thanks for the kind comment 😀
Wow, love this tent. I especially like the storage area outside, and the ability to stand inside the tent. I don’t do a lot of camping, but this tent might change that for me. At first glance I thought the tent was smaller than it was, very cool to see that it is big enough to hold 2-3 people.
I feel like this would be a really good tent for me, I have pretty strong winds up in Idaho, do you think it would do alright?
It actually has enough room for a total of 4 people, and that is comfortably. With other 4-person tents you’ll all be lined up like sardines. However, you don’t have that problem with the Wagontop.
It does handle strong winds but you have to pitch it in the correct place. Don’t let the front or rear get bashed by the wind or it will lift up and out of the ground.
Instead face the sides to the wind. It is much stronger and allows it to withstand stronger wind forces.
Oh Brandon, what a wonderful tent. My kids are fond of tents. I have one set up inside my house in an empty room for the kids to play. If I show them this one, they’ll definitely ask me to buy. Their birthdays are imminent. I need to consider this option. Thank you for this great post my dear friend.
They’ll probably love it because it’s so massive and offers all the crazy features! Good luck my friend.
This is just what I’ve been looking for. I’m a fairly tall guy, it’s nice to see something made that can accommodate my size. Great review, seeing all this gear makes me look forward to the warmer weather.
Hello Jeff. I know what you’re going through and have dedicated a whole article for tall people just like you looking for a tent to fit in comfortably. Hope you find one you like 🙂
Hey Brandon, I have been looking for a review like this for some time on the Wagontop 4P tent and I am so glad I found your site.
It’s pretty evident to me as well that people are just pitching up their tent in the wrong location which is probably the main reason for the negative reviews surrounding stability in the wind.
That’s why it’s so important to have a comparison of different peoples’ opinions. Anyway, thanks for an awesome review and making the next tent purchasing decision obvious to me!
Cheers Brandon.
Yeah, well to be honest there isn’t much negative feedback other than the small few who were calling out this tent on the windproof abilities.
I’m happy to say that there is nothing wrong with it other than what I’ve stated in my review already, and what you should do to avoid it happening to you.
Hey Brandon,
Great review, the tent I have now only has 1 place in it that you can stand up straight. This looks great, I will have to check this one out, the height and the amount of room is great when you have more than 2 people in a tent. The vestibule is a great addition for when all the gear does not fit inside the tent, it would keep everything dry in case of a shower or two.
Where is your favorite place to camp? I’m in California, its nice because we can camp year round.
Irene
The vestibule keeps your gear 100% waterproof so you can actually store it in heavy rain, not just in showers.
I haven’t been to the United States yet so I have no idea what camping spots they have to offer but you bet I’ll be going in the future. California seems like a great place to camp since you can easily camp year round (which I’m a big fan of).
Thanks for the comment.
im an avid camper as well and I bought a Coleman, 8 person, tent and it works great for my camping trips but I wish it was taller like this one anyway awesome website thanks for sharing have a good rest of your night.
Thanks man. The Coleman 8 Person Tent is definitely a great choice and I would have to agree with you. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Wow, this looks like a great family tent so thank you so much for your review. I love camping but I hate having to crawl in and out of tents so I love the fact that this has standing height all the way round. It seems quite expensive though so do you think it is worth the extra money for a small family? One other thing I like is that you can put it up with one person. Do you think it would be suitable in different weathers – I’m in the UK and we often get quite a lot of rain! Look forward to hearing from you. Gail
I think the NEMO Wagontop 4P makes a great small family tent. It offers almost everything you need while being strong and high quality.
So yes, it is well worth paying the extra price for insurance of your families protection. You can’t sacrifice quality for money when the children are involved.
And yep, it does a great job keeping the rain out. There’s literally 0 complaints about the waterproofing 🙂
