Summary:
The reason I gave the value of this tent 3 stars was because a tent at this price range should be FLAWLESS. Yeah, you might get the odd 1 or 2 tents that fall through the cracks, but I found way too many reviews from users who did not like this tent.
You’re better off going with a much cheaper option.
However, If you don’t mind being close to your camping buddy, then this tent will still work for you.

At A Glance
Essentially, the Big Agnes Foidel Canyon 2 Tent isn’t ultra lightweight, but still light enough to go backpacking with. The manufacturers are calling it a 3+ season tent for the simple fact that it can withstand extreme weather conditions as well as the heat.
The construction consists of advanced materials to allow this tent to withstand really harsh elements while still being in the lightweight range – maximizing strength, but still staying as light as possible, to say the least.
They have built this tent with a lot of attention to detail.
You will find that the body is made up of mesh and nylon (meaning you can cover the mesh with fabric if the weather gets too extreme), while the doors are also created with mesh material to ensure you get the best ventilation possible.
Furthermore, there are two doors and two vestibules so you have somewhere to stash your gear out of the elements.
Basically, they have built this tent to make it last, maximizing features and shelter abilities so you can be certain to have a good nights sleep even when nasty weather presents itself!
Key Features
Advanced Rain Fly – The rain fly is both UV ray-resistant AND tear-resistant, due to it being ultra-durable while containing very protective layers
Easy Set-up – This is due to the color-coded webbing and symmetrical pole structure. In addition to these, this tent contains the Fast Fly setup, which allows you to leave the tent body behind so you can have an ultralight, compact, and SAFE shelter if you choose to do so
Note: If you wish to use the Fast Fly feature, you will need to purchase the footprint (sold separately).
Doors/Vestibules – This tent has 2 doors AND 2 vestibules (1 on each side to provide shelter for your equipment). Furthermore, each door has its own closure option so you can stop cold air from coming in if it gets too cold
Reflective Guylines – Reflective guylines help you see the tent in the dark. Too many times my family and I have tripped over lines and injured ourselves in one way or another
Fast Fly – A great feature is the Fast Fly system, which allows you to make this tent ultralight. All you need is the stakes, poles, rain fly, and the footprint. This works great in the summertime!
Interesting Enough…
The Big Agnes Foidel Canyon 2 Tent is packed with many great features – my favorite being the Fast Fly option.
Because I camp a lot in the summertime, the heat can become unbearable, so sometimes it feels good just to sleep out in the open – helping you stay cool throughout the night so you get a comfortable sleep 🙂
Reflective guylines never let me down either!
I have destroyed many tents throughout the years, simply because I was too clumsy. Every time you trip over the guylines, it pulls on the tent, and it’s not good for long term sustainability.
Who This Tent Is For
You’ll enjoy the many features and benefits that this tent offers if you are an avid camper or backpacker.
It’s not exactly ultralight, but it is definitely in the lightweight range for a backpacker.
This tent is classed as a 3+ season, meaning it can handle sandstorms, hail, snowfall, everything!
If you need a backpacking tent with amazing strength and quality, while being lightweight at the same time, then this tent is for you!
Purchase Details
The best place to purchase this tent is from Amazon.com.
Why?
Simply because they offer the best prices, deals, and even a 30-day return policy!
I find the return policy to be great.
You can get a full refund if you don’t like your purchase, and even if you experience a defect on the product, you’re able to get a repair!

Do I Recommend It?
Even though it’s extremely lightweight, they still haven’t skimped over the quality and strength of it!
However, it all depends on what your plans are for whether or not it will be a good choice for you or not.
If you wish to camp by yourself or with your partner, then by all means give this tent a go, because it works tremendously well!
The only reason I don’t like it is because it’s too small for 2 people and the zippers get caught on the fabric all the time.
But other than that, all the features and high quality material more than make up for those minor problems.
So to answer this question; yes, I do recommend it to you if you don’t mind a tight squeeze – otherwise you should invest in a slightly larger 2-person tent if you don’t want to be too close to your camping buddy.
Alternative/Similar Tents
You’ll definitely fall in love with the MSR Hubba Hubba NX 2 Tent. This one has been created with camping relationships in mind, but it’s a lot cheaper than the Foidel Canyon 2 Tent.
The Marmot Limelight 2 Tent is also another great option, since it’s still lightweight and a lot cheaper as well. Also, there is much more interior space so you can easily fit 2 people inside the tent.
Wrapping Up
So don’t get me wrong here. The Big Agnes Foidel Canyon 2 Tent is still a great tent and has been built with top quality materials, while it doesn’t blow over in strong winds either!
It is called a 3+ season tent because it is actually more advanced than a 4-season tent!
WOW, how?
It’s capable of withstanding ALL TYPES of weather conditions (thunderstorms, sandstorms, hail, snowfall, etc).
In addition to that, it is extremely lightweight.
You don’t find many “3+ season” tents, so this one is very rare.
If this tent has kept you intrigued throughout this entire article, then you’re going to love it.
There are still more pros than cons, while it’s a great option for backpackers who don’t want to carry a much heavier 4-season tent.

Hi Brandon!
Thanks for taking the time to provide such a wealth of information! I’m planning on hitting the road soon for an extended RV/camping trip and reading your post makes me realize I still have a lot more to learn about selecting the tent we will bring. I’m glad I didn’t buy the one I found yesterday! Could you recommend a lightweight 2 person tent that is easy up, easy down and good for backpacking?
Thanks so much! All the best!
EJ
Not a problem, Elora 🙂 And yes I can actually. THIS one 😀
But if you want a cheaper alternative, you can’t go wrong with the Eureka Midori 2 Tent.
I’m definitely going to be camping this summer and I’m not as young as I used to be so I need lightweight for sure, and I don’t want critters in with me, so any recommendations? I’m also in search of an air mattress that’s easy to use if you have any thoughts on that. Hm, I sound like I should get a hotel room! lol. Thanks for the info!
Well this tent is really lightweight. At 5 lbs. 21 oz, with this much strength and features, makes this tent a no-brainer! If you need an air mattress, make sure you get something that’s really comfortable. So check out the reviews and if they mention “comfortable” many times, then you know it’s a great product.
Cheers for the great review Brandon. I will be doing quite a few camping weekends with my son this summer. I am really impressed with the Canyon 2 but they messed up with the size, such a pity as I think the price is good for an all seasons tent and I love the fast fly option. What 3 man tent would you recommend with similar pro’s to this tent?
Thanks.
I can’t agree more. It is a tent designed for 2 people, but’s a VERY tight fit if you’re wanting to camp with someone else. The width is way too small.
So another similar option to this tent would have to be the Hubba Hubba NX 2-Person Tent.
The Eureka Midori 2 is another great alternative and also MUCH cheaper than both of these tents.
Take your pic 🙂
Sounds like a good tent for people who know they will be out in extreme weather. There’s NOTHING worse than camping in the rain in a tent that isn’t up to snuff. Thanks for the detailed review, and for the alternative suggestions.
Not a problem, Penelope. I hope I helped you make the right decision for your purchase 🙂
