Kelty Unisex Cosmic 20 Degree Sleeping Bag

Is The Kelty Cosmic 20 Degree Sleeping Bag Any Good?

Posted on November 2, 2017January 24, 2020 by Brandon

Last modified on January 24th, 2020

Sleeping bags are needed for all kinds of outdoor adventures, however, some tend to work better than others in different situations.

One might be good for winter camping but bad for the summertime since it’ll be too hot.

A summer bag would be too cold for winter.

So what is the Kelty Cosmic 20 good for, if at all? And what does it have to offer?

I’m going to find out everything this product offers and the overall quality in this Kelty Cosmic 20 Degree Sleeping Bag review.

Summary:

This is a great sleeping bag for the price tag, which in my opinion is the best bang for your buck.

The new DriDown 600 fill makes it stand out from its competitors, for the simple reason that it extends the life of the bag and stays water-resistant.

It is highly affordable for what it offers, to say the least.

Kelty have lived up to their name once again!

Kelty Cosmic 20 Degree Sleeping Bag

 Pros  Cons
  • It is lightweight for the price, making it good for both camping and backpacking
  • Provides amazing insulation so you stay warm in fairly cold temperatures
  • Small enough to hold heat but large enough for wiggle room (even a 250-pound person can fit inside comfortably)
  • Very high quality – It will last for many years thanks to the new 600 DriDown fill and incredible loft it provides
  • Really comfortably, as buyers have claimed to be true
  • Takes a bit of practice when zipping up from the inside
  • 25-30 degrees is the lowest temperature rating recommended. Anything below that and you will need an extra blanket or layer of clothing (As long as they’re loose. Tight clothing is a big no-no)

What Is This Sleeping Bag All About?

This sleeping bag has recently been revamped.

It is much warmer, stylish, and consists of more features than ever before.

The new 600-fill hydrophobic DriDown gives it amazing performance, a good barrier against moisture and the ability to maintain its loft.

This allows it to dry quicker and more easily in wet/damp conditions.

And although it works for 3 seasons only (summer, spring and fall), it is versatile enough to keep you at a comfortable temperature every time.

It lofts great and packs down small, making it a good choice for almost any outdoor adventure!

The Features

Draft collar – Stops drafts blowing onto your neck! Constant drafts and cold winds make you uncomfortable, restless and COLD

Thermal comfort hood – Wraps around your head for more support and a comfortable nights sleep

Natural fit footbox – Provides immense warmth to your feet and more room to move so you don’t feel so scrunched up

Quilt construction – Stops the insulation from moving and eliminates cold spots. It continues to hold its insulation abilities longer than other bags without this feature

Locking Zipper – Simply lock the zipper when you crawl into the bag and settle for the night. This will stop it from opening up as you toss and turn

Anti-snag zipper – This keeps the zipper running smoothly, effortlessly and easily; every time. It increases the life of the bag as a result

What I Find Interesting

The stylish design, quilt construction, locking zipper and anti-snag design stand out to me a lot.

However, the new 600 Down insulation fill makes it perform like a beast in the field.

This typical design allows you to stay warm in cold environments or cooler in hotter areas.

Who Should Buy This Sleeping Bag?

If you’re looking for a very warm sleeping bag from a highly trusted company, you should definitely consider getting this product.

It’s not the cheapest bag on the market, but certainly one of the most affordable Down bags you can get to-date.

And even if the price is a little high, what do you expect when you’re getting this many features and high amount of quality?

Best used for:

  • 3-season camping
  • 3-season backpacking
  • Minor winter temperatures
  • Sleepovers
  • Couch surfing

Best Place To Buy?

The very best place to purchase this sleeping bag – in my opinion – is from Amazon.

The fast deliveries, free shipping, money-back guarantee and cheapest prices are the reason I came to this conclusion.

They offer an exceptional 30-day return policy, which lets you send the item back and get a full refund (in the event you don’t like your purchase, of course).

Do I Recommend This Sleeping Bag?

It is lightweight for what it offers and has no trouble keeping you warm in cold conditions.

So many buyers have said you cannot buy a sleeping bag in the same price bracket that provides the same amount of quality as this one.

And I’ll have to agree with them.

I simply cannot find another Down Bag that comes close to the quality, construction and attention-to-detail of this product.

And that my friend, is why I highly recommend the Kelty Cosmic 20 Degree Sleeping Bag.

Keep in Mind

Somebody used a puff jacket inside this sleeping bag, long pants and a heck of a lot of layers – then removed one star because he stayed cold.

Listen. Sleeping bags trap heat to keep you warm.

When you wear layers of clothes you stop the sleeping bag from doing exactly what it’s designed to do.

The warm air simply cannot circulate and keep you warm.

All it’s doing is getting trapped outside of all the layers you are wearing, and making you feel much colder then if you had them removed.

So many newbies make this mistake, so I hope you do not.

My Final Opinion

The Kelty Cosmic 20 Degree Sleeping Bag has accumulated a solid base of positive reviews with no negative claims thus far.

After my findings I have come to the conclusion that this bag is exceptional for the price.

It is high quality, affordable and easily beats other bags with higher price tags.

I could go on, however, you know where I’m going with this and I don’t want to waste anymore of your time.

Great job, Kelty! You continue to release top quality products, and we all thank you very much 🙂
