Is the Mountain Hardwear EV 2 Tent any good?
What is the quality of this tent and is it worth the price tag?
These are just a few of the many questions I will be answering inside this Mountain Hardwear EV 2 Tent review.
I have purchased too many tents in the past thinking they were good enough and worth the high price tag, only to be let down when I arrived at my campsite, got it pitched before leaking in the first spot of rain.
I hope this tent doesn’t end up like that! Well lets find out, shell we? 😀

It’s sad to say, but this tent would be flawless if it didn’t have trouble with the waterproofing. There’s a chance you will get a good one, but another chance where you will receive one that doesn’t even resist the rain.
For that simple reason, I have to say that this tent is not recommended. It’s only good in strong winds and snow. Here is a much better alternative.

Product Overview
The Mountain Hardwear EV 2 Tent is described as compact, lightweight, and STRONG.
It has one wall keeping you safe from the elements, so no rain fly is needed. This helps keep the weight down, while it’s one less thing to worry about when out camping.
It has an integrated vestibule, so you actually have somewhere to store your gear if you decide to go backpacking instead of car camping.
There are also 4 ZIPPERED VENTING OPTIONS! This ensures adequate air flow and a comfortable temperature for the conditions you’re camping in.
It has 2 SVX window panels that brighten the interior and allows for better visibility when peeking outside.
All windows flaps have been welded and the zippers are watertight. Doing this provides the best protection from rain and zero moisture/condensation buildup.
Features That Stick Out The Most
Snow Port – There is a watertight snow port in the floor, which is basically an exit point for accumulated frost and snow. It is the second line of defense. The single wall is your first.
Reflective Loops and Zipper Pulls – The guy-out loops and zipper pulls illuminate at nighttime. It makes for easier setup and usability in the dark. The stake out points are all color-coded too, which makes the setup process even easier.
Single Wall Fabric – The single wall fabric is highly breathable. It’s designed to cut back on weight while stopping all condensation buildup.
Vestibule – The vestibule is built into the tent, however, located at the front so you have your living space and storage separate.
Internal Mesh Pockets – You can keep all your more valuable items off the floor and in a safe and tidy manner with these built-in mesh pockets.
Evolution Tension Arch – This new technology helps stabilize the overall construction but WITHOUT using more poles, it actually uses fewer.
DAC Featherlite Poles – These typical poles have a better strength-to-weight ratio than traditional poles (prevents breakages), and are more eco-friendly too (doesn’t use harmful acids).
What I Like
The Vestibule – I really like how the vestibule is inside the tent, where you are half of the time, and NOT outside of the zippers under a rain fly. This makes it super easy when you need something in the middle of the night and it’s cold, rainy and windy outside.
Evolution Tension Arch – With the rise of technology comes new and improved features at our disposal, and it’s only going to get better as the years go by! It’s awesome how they can make stronger skeletons without adding anymore weight or making us use more poles.
Snow Port – The built-in snow port is also a nice final touch. It allows for snow and frost to leave, but watertight enough that moisture and condensation can’t get inside.
The Dimensions – The dimensions are a whopping 8.75 x 4 feet! A lot of other 2-person tents don’t even come close to the interior size of this tent, so I just had to include it in this section.
What I Don’t Like
There’s not really much I don’t like about this tent so far. Although there is definitely one thing that comes to mind as I’m reviewing this product.
One Door
Yep, I may be nitpicking here, but I really like to have two doors when camping with others. It just makes for more convenience and a much easier time in the outdoors. But that’s just me 🙂

It is a 4-season tent so it’s mostly designed for winter use, however, it is still good for other activities too.
This includes:

- Fall, spring, and winter backpacking

Do I Recommend This Tent To Anyone?
I wanted to like this tent because it stands out from its competitors, but there are just too many people disliking the waterproofing capabilities.
They say it performs exactly as advertised in snow and strong winds, however, when it came to the rain it would leak!
My guess is that those people received a dud, and that worries me.
There aren’t many reviewers, but the small amount it has received were complaining about it.
If it wasn’t for the waterproof flaw I would recommended this tent 100%, but that is not the case anymore.
Due to the major flaw, and because a tent is suppose to keep you DRY, I will have to say it is not recommended!
I may change my decision when we have more reviews to base our final opinion off of, but in the mean time it is a no from me.
Similar Tent
I have just finished reviewing another 4-season tent actually, and it has NO issues with the waterproofing.
I’m a big fan of it already and recommend you check it out if you dislike the Mountain Hardwear Tent.
It has better reviews, it’s strong, and a lot lighter.
In Short
The Mountain Hardwear EV 2 Tent would’ve been perfect if the manufacturers took their time with the waterproofing.
Of course you may get one that actually does resist the rain as much as it’s advertised to, but when you are paying this much money, do you really want to take that risk?
In my eyes, it performs flawlessly in strong winds and snow fall, and it might even resist torrential rain.
However, reviews don’t lie my friend and I do not want you to take that risk.
When we get more feedback on the official product pages we can get more insight on how it actually performs.
But in the meantime, I say stay away from it.
At the end of the day you can tell me to get lost and purchase it anyway 😛 It is your money and you can do whatever you want with it.
But here’s my final say…
This tent is good if you want to camp in snow and heavy winds, but when there’s rain, you might be out of luck.
The Mountain Hardwear EV 2 Tent is not recommended!
