9If you are looking for an honest opinion regarding this tent, then this is my MSR Hubba Hubba NX 2-Person Tent review. I don’t really review expensive tents like this, however the design of this tent ‘popped’ right out at me.
I usually shop and provide my opinion on cheap tents, so this expensive tent is far from my normal review.
But I do enjoy helping people, this is actually the biggest reason why I wanted to create this article. I want to help you make the right decision that will fit your current needs. So, should you really get this tent?
Let’s find out.

Product Overview
The creators of this tent wanted to provide the lightest tent possible but still wanted to have a modernized look. Even though it’s lightweight, it is fully capable of functioning like every other tent.
The weight of this tent is sitting at 1.54 kg, while there’s a Two Fast and Light options, which will make the weight go down even further (0.97 kg to be exact).
This tent also contains head and elbow room, even with 2 people inside the tent. There’s also 2 large side vestibule areas for storing your gear through the night.
What Ultimate Benefits Does This Product Provide?
What really struck me the most was actually the rain gutter that this tent includes. This is located just above the doors. The cross-ventilation is also a must-have for any season.
I also find that you can roll up the vestibule area during the day time, and bring it down at night.
The optional stargazer view (because of the mesh roof), looks like something I’d get into for sure, I’m thinking this would be perfect for hot summer nights.
Pricing & Purchase Details
This tent is currently available on Amazon.com, which includes free shipping and a 30 day warranty. You can return any broken pieces for a repair, or return the entire tent for a full refund.
The price of this tent varies between $350 and $390.
Who the MSR Hubba Hubba NX 2-Person Tent is For
This product is not your average, traditional tent, this is more of a ‘couples’ tent. However I don’t see why a couple of friends can’t enjoy this weatherproof, amazingly-designed tent either, it is made for 2 people after all 🙂
I typically find that you and your partner will have a great time inside this tent, making it a perfect fit for a backyard camp out, or even a wilderness bush excursion trip, while a public campsite shouldn’t be completely ruled out either.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- This tent includes an ultra-compact compression stuff sack, so you can really pack this tent down in your backpack as small as possible, making more room for other items
- Bathtub-styled floor, good for keeping the rain out from the bottom of the tent
- The gutter feature for this door I find to be an outstanding feature, making it easier to hop in and out of the tent without rain dropping on you
- Extremely lightweight and classed as the most livable lightweight tent out there. I couldn’t agree more
- MSR have amazing customer service, this is a must-have, especially when you’re purchasing something of this price
- This tent is also freestanding, even with the rain fly on
Cons
- The footprint is sold separately, although a tarp will also work
- It is a little on the pricier side

Alternative/Similar Product
If you want something that’s much cheaper, more roomy and still capable of keeping the rain out while holding up in rough winds, I can’t think of anything better than the Slumberjack 4 person tent.
The only downside – it may not be as durable in the long run and not as lightweight.
Do I Recommend This Tent?
If you’re willing to pay for an ultralight tent at this price and realize that a tarp is probably needed to protect your investment in the long run, then this tent is highly recommended for you.
Otherwise, if you don’t want to pay for this tent because of the hefty price tag, the tent mentioned above is more suitable for you.
My Final Opinion
I literally couldn’t find any negative feedback regarding this tent, apart from the huge price this tent contains, however that’s usually what you’d expect for the most lightest and livable tent out on the market.
If you love camping and hiking ultralight then this tent is definitely for you and highly recommended!
If you plan on going car camping in a public campsite then this is not for you, for the simple fact that when you’re car camping, the weight of a tent is never an issue so you might as well spend money on a heavier, cheaper tent.

Thank you for this interesting review of your recommended 2 person tent. In my youth I was particularly fond of taking the family camping near beaches in Summer where I could participate in my favorite sport of fishing. The type of tent I chose then was a sturdy family size one capable of taking up to 6 adults and was far more heavier in terms of tent fabric and steel poles. However because of the strong south easterly winds we get here in Western Australia during the summer months it needed to be sturdy and I even needed to have a tarpaulin strung over the top to achieve extra support. I really wonder how the llght weight nylon fabric tent with aluminium supports would cope in those type of conditions? Probably would get blown away!
Hello James, no worries. I’m happy to help 🙂 What a great story. I would actually have no doubt that this tent would work good in those conditions. For over $300 you’d expect it to. Lol

This does seem like a great option for those who need an ultralight tent. My dad and brother went camping at Philmont Scout Ranch one time and I know they would have loved this for that trip. They were weighing everything to get the most bang for the ounce. I personally don’t do a lot of hiking to get to my campsites so I will take a look at your cheaper recommendation first.
Hey Amanda! Yes, it is classed as the lightest 2 person tent on the market, however still livable. Uhhh ok, no worries. If you need any help with choosing a tent, here’s what to look for before you purchase one.
Hope this helps 🙂

Thanks for the review Brandon. It’s definitely on the pricer side, however I think it offers a lot of positive features.
The feature that stood out to me most was the rain gutter. I think that’s such a useful feature to have, and I like that it appears to offer a good amount of space when upright as well as being easily compatible into a backpack or something.
Still not sure if I’m comfortable with the price tag, but it’s a tent I might consider getting in the near future.
Thanks again.
Hi there Stephanie. I do agree with you, it is a lot more expensive than some tents. However at least it catches the eyes of passerby, SUPER lightweight, since it’s classed as the lightest 2 person tent on the market, and will last years to come. That’s what makes this tent a must-have if you are an avid backpacker or camper.
Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated!
