This 8 person tent has a wide range of mixed feedback, but it’s never a bad thing to get an unbiased opinion – so I set out to find the real truth about this tent. And by the looks of it, you might want to consider looking for something else. Anyway, let’s get right into it. If you want to know if this tent is worth the $139 then I suggest you read my Wenzel Klondike Tent 8 Person Review below.
Features
What does this thing do? The Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent holds 8 people max, although you will be shoulder to shoulder, so I wouldn’t recommend that many people. Setup time takes around 15-30 minutes with 1-2 persons and contains a lot of space inside, which is where it gets most of the positive feedback from.
What ultimate benefits does this specific product provide? One thing you will find with this tent – is how big it is, but that’s what you’d expect for a tent this price right? This tent is huge and able to fit a king size mattress in the main room, it contains a ‘hobbit hole’ that separates the main room from the vestibule area or ‘mud room’.
What are its specifications?

Who It’s For
This tent is designed for a family of up to 8 people if you don’t mind being shoulder to shoulder of course. Great for small families that want to get out and have a weekend camping trip in the summer, this tent gets the eyes and compliments because of the size.
What’s to expect with the amount of people?
- 2 people = a lot of room, gear/bed in main room with hangout area free to use
- 4 people = perfect with plenty of room to move around
- 6 people = can camp comfortably
- 8 people = squishy, no room for gear

Pros
- Can quickly pitch this tent with 2 people that will take about 15-20 minutes, even quicker with practice (one person outside the tent and one person to raise it)
- One of this tents best features is the very spacious rooms, can fit a king sized mattress in the main room and still have space to move around
- Great for tall people, if you are up to 6’1 you can stand and walk around the main room without any issues
- The front ‘camping porch’ makes a great feature for hanging out in or for storing all your gear in. Set up a table and chairs and have a game of cards or beers 😛
- Not for hardcore hikers, however this tent makes a great choice for weekend campers in the warmer months
Cons
- The tent has overall poor quality, there’s a chance you could get one of the bad ones – where poles snap, the material rips, and the stitching doesn’t last.
- The rain fly is poor, you better bring a tarp or you better plan on being soaked
- Terrible pole system, the tent falls into itself, unless you stake everything down including ropes staked into the ground, even then you’re likely to experience the tent falling over in any kind of wind
- Not recommended for bad/windy weather, the tent will just fall over
- Though not much of a biggie, the ‘hobbit hole’ doesn’t have a screen, so if you close it up you can’t see through the rooms
- Like all other tents, the factory stakes are rubbish, use long metal stakes that are good quality and throw the standard ones in the bin, this MIGHT help with the falling over issue.
Alternative/Similar Products
If you want something similar – that’s actually waterproof, able to stand in the wind, high quality and slightly lower price, then I highly recommend the Coleman Montana 6 Person tent!
If you’re just not interested in big tents after reading my review, but you still want something that’s affordable, still high quality but much smaller, you can never go wrong with the Coleman Sundome 3 Person tent.
Do I Recommend This Tent?
In all honesty I would say no. The material is cheap, the poles crack and snap – I would rather you spend your money on something that’s actually going to last, and hold up in strong winds while keeping you dry from the rain, and this tent just won’t cut the butter.
My Final Opinion
Should you get this tent? I don’t want you to risk wasting money – I would rather you spend your money on something that won’t fall in the slightest wind or collapse on you while you and your family are sleeping (which will be a frightening experience, especially for the little ones). So I’m going to answer no.
However – The Wenzel 8 Person Klondike tent might make a great choice for weekend camping in the warmer months or backyard camping with your family, but ONLY if you aren’t expecting any sort of rain or high winds.
Of course, the choice is yours and completely up to you. If you still want to go ahead with this tent, then Click here to check out the 8 person tent on Amazon.
If you’re leaning more towards the higher quality, cheaper and actually waterproof tent then I highly recommend the
Coleman Montana 6 Person!
Hello!
I’m on the hunt for a quality 8 person tent. This will provide the perfect amount of room for me and the wife, as well as our dog, gear, and future kids. I really like the layout of the Wenzel Klondike 8. I am most fond of the closable panels on the screen room. This is one of the primary feature I am on the hunt for; either closable panels or a full rain fly that covers the entire tent well (including the screen room). Quality, longevity, stability. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks
Shaun
Hello Shaun.
Sadly there aren’t many options that includes a rain fly that covers the entire porch area (if any). The simple reason is that it’s designed to be a porch not an extra room for sleeping in.
However, I have PERFECT alternatives for you. I have just finished an article about them so it’s your lucky day.
They are designed for motorcycles but you can still sit in them during the daytime. The only downside is that there is no mesh screen, just lots of doors to keep air circulation coming in.
You can check them out here.
Let me know if you still need help 🙂
I heard this tent is good if u have a window unit ac bc it has the air flow vent toward the bottom back of tent that u can use to put a ac in or pressed agains the screen basically . I have a family of 6 two adults and four kids ages 5,7,13,15 ! I am worried about rain as we are in Florida ! I’m looking for a tent that would fit my family of 6 (and if we want to bring extra people like a family of 8 ) that is able to have a window ac unit in. It
