Good Tent But Has Minor Condensation Buildup
Summary:
A great tent indeed. I find the most beneficial feature to be the ultralight construction. It can AND will keep you safe from the elements, while there is only a few minor issues with condensation buildup – but that is only minimal, luckily. Other than that, it performs exactly as claimed and does a great job in the great outdoors.

What Is It All About?
The manufacturers have created this tent for ultralight backpacking, while they have been described as easy-to-pack and simple to setup as well.
And even though it’s only a 1-person tent, the living space is astonishing – definitely not something you come across everyday in a lightweight backpacking tent.
This typical tent is actually one of their best-sellers, and this is simply because they have created it with amazing strength and increased living space, which is due to the high volume hub.
It contains dual zippers on the door along with a steep wall structure, which has been created to add a lot more interior space than what other solo tents offer.
These types of zippers have discrete seams to make this tent easier to get in and out while giving the overall design a modernized structure. There is a “quick stash” located on the body so you can stow away the door fabric in a safe and secure manner.
It also has a patterned, double rip-stop nylon fabric which is extremely tough and durable (increases strength by up to 25%), allowing it to handle even the toughest rainstorms.
A huge let down (in my honest opinion) is that no gear loft or footprint is included in the purchase, as they are both sold separately.
The Features
High Volume Hub – You will find that the structure of this tent is that much different to your traditional solo tents, and that’s simply because it creates steeper walls without adding ANY additional weight to it. This “high volume hub” system also increases the overall strength of the tent by 25% and the interior volume by 20% (compared to other Copper Spur models)
Stargazing Opportunities – So the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 Tent has mesh walls and roof. This feature promotes stargazing opportunities since you can remove the rain fly when you’re not expecting rain
Storage – There is a massive pocket on the ceiling of this tent, two mesh pockets on the walls, and media pockets right above the sleeping area. The media pocket is great to use if you want a clean cord routing from your media gadgets to your earphones/headphones
Vestibule And Rain Fly – The rain fly is a “full coverage” one, meaning it comes all the way to the ground while leaving space under it to stash your away gear. This is called a vestibule, and although it’s not the largest vestibule in the world, it is still enough space for 1 persons gears. The rain fly has a vent on it, too – which you can use if you need more ventilation
Lightweight Stakes – The stakes are aluminium and “J-shaped”, while they are also super lightweight as well
Storm Flaps – Yes, the zippers are covered with storm flaps to stop cold breezes from coming into the tent through the zippers holes
Reflective Guylines – You probably already know how important these are to have – not so much when you’re camping by yourself, but they are still very good – nonetheless. These help you see the guylines at nighttime so you can stop you tripping over them all the time!
Fast Fly Setup – This tent can be pitched without the body, cutting the weight down to exactly 1 lb 10 oz. This means you can get a good nights sleep (cool and breezy!) if you’re camping in the warmer months – a good idea if you want to be ultralight as possible
Anything New Or Interesting?
The next feature I’m going to mention is not entirely new, but the types of poles that this tent offers aren’t easy to come across. The Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 Tent contains acid-free poles.
These are called DAC Featherlite NSL, and they are 100% eco-friendly! 🙂
What I DO find interesting and is actually unique to the UL1 tent itself, is the high volume hub, which is a great feature that improves the overall stability, strength, and convenience!
Who It’s For
This tent is so lightweight it is more preferred for backpackers.
So if you are looking for a high quality, STRONG tent for your outdoor backpacking adventures, you’re bound to fall in love with the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 Tent.
Furthermore, you might want to stay away from it altogether if you want to use it for car camping.
When you’re car camping, weight isn’t an issue, so there’s actually cheaper alternatives that offer as much protection from the elements as this one does – just a little heavier.
How To Get One For Yourself
If you’re liking this tent so far, the best place to purchase one is from Amazon.com.
Why?
They have fast deliveries, cheaper prices, and a 30-day-return policy.
The 30-day return policy means you can get a full refund if you want to, no matter WHAT your excuse is, even if it didn’t reach your expectations you can get your money back.
And if there’s any defects on the tent, you can send it back and get a brand new one in return!
Is It Recommended?
It isn’t the cheapest solo tent on the market, but it more than makes up for it with the amount of quality and vast amount of features it provides.
If you’ve been looking around for a tent with a lot of interior space and large storage pockets, while being able to keep you bone dry and safe from the elements, then you’ll absolutely love the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 Tent.
Believe it or not…
But answering this question was a difficult choice for me.
For the price of this tent, it’s not exactly flawless if you ask me, but it does get the job done very well.
The only big problem I could find was the condensation that has been known to get built up inside the tent. Luckily it’s only minimal though!
But other than that, it does a remarkable job at standing strong in high winds, while it’s not going to leak in a heavy downpour either!
So yes, it is a great tent, especially because it is so lightweight!
Other Tents You Might Like
The Snugpak Ionosphere 1 Person Tent is another great option if you’re choosing to go backpacking. It is MUCH cheaper AND has absolutely 0 condensation buildup. It is only 1 pound heavier than the UL1, but a great alternative – nonetheless.
Another tent worth looking into is the ALPS Mountaineering Mystique 1.0. It is NOT freestanding – however, it doesn’t need a footprint protector either. Also, it has much more vestibule room if that’s more important to you, while it can withstand minor winter conditions as well.
Finishing Up
Now there is only a few minor cons that I could find for this tent, the others were not even worth mentioning.
Especially the complaint about the stakes not being bright enough! (a buyer actually lost a few of his). But that has nothing to do with the performance of the tent.
However, having condensation buildup is definitely a no-no in my books, and luckily it is only MINIMAL condensation, or I would have given this tent a much lower rating.
Anyway, i think it’s time to wrap up this review and give my final recommendation.
Due to the small amount of cons I could find for this tent, and due to the fact that they are all minor and the pros heavily outweigh them by a long shot, I will have to say that this tent is highly recommended!

Thank you for great information, And an excellent one, when you stay in tent, you need a lot of information, so I love this important details from you. It´s not many website which give so good details.
But one question I need to ask. When you live in a country where the weather changes a lot, you find quickly that it take different time for it to dry quickly. And wet tent can be dull. So I want to ask, do you know if it´s quick to dry?
Drying a tent is HIGHLY important. If you don’t, mold and mildew will grow onto the tent, rendering it almost useless when you try to use it again. All the bacteria will eat away at the fabric and destroy it. The Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 will definitely be quick to dry. It’s only a matter of hanging it up in the sun and letting it drip-dry. If you can’t do that due to the rain, go under a tree and dry it yourself with a towel.
Hope this helps 🙂
Had to pack it wet due to rain and unpacked it the next day to dry. The orange color has run overnight and stained the grey areas. Luckily Big Agnes replaced the fly.
That’s good that Big Agnes replaced the rain fly for you with no questions asked. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
I can always count on you to put it like it is with tents. I like this one that it is lightweight and easy to layout. Another thing I like is the star gazing you can do because the flap is removable. It will overall make it easy for me to move around with it. Thanks for a great review.
Yes, this specific tent is one that I would like to try out myself one day. It is SO lightweight, which is a great bonus for when you’re going backpacking. I love it!
Hey buddy!
Once it’s light and can fit my dog as you mentioned then I am sold!!!
Oh yes and I can see the stars and sky as the case maybe! Glad it dries easily to!
