Coleman-Brazos Cold Weather Sleeping Bag Review

Coleman Brazos Cold Weather Sleeping Bag Review – Is It Worth It?

Posted on September 1, 2017February 17, 2020 by Brandon

Last modified on February 17th, 2020

At first glance it looks like this sleeping bag is low quality and too cold for the outdoors.

However, after reviewing outdoor products for so long now I’ve learned to not judge a book by its cover.

I’m going to do some extensive research on this sleeping bag, write down my findings in this Coleman Brazos Cold Weather Sleeping Bag review and then expose the real quality.

So without further ado, let’s get right into it!

  • Comfortability

Summary:

A good quality bag with high ratings. It has a decent amount of features for the price and has no trouble keeping you warm down to temperatures of 20 to 40 Degrees Fahrenheit. It’s difficult to get back into the stuff sack and has itchy lining. However, there were more people saying it’s comfortable and highly worth the low price.

 Pros  Cons
  • Surprisingly warm at the advertised temperature (20-40 Degrees F)
  • The 5.11 foot length means people of all ages can use it for their outdoor adventures
  • The quality of the bag is “pretty good” considering the low price tag
  • Has many useful features that other low-priced sleeping bags don’t offer
  • Comfortable and ideal for summer camping
  • Can not fit it back into the stuff sack without breaking a sweat
  • A couple of complaints about the lining being too rough, itchy and uncomfortable

Coleman Brazos Cold Weather Sleeping Bag Review

Specs

Product name: Coleman Brazos Cold Weather Sleeping Bag

Cheapest place to buy: Amazon.com

Color: Navy Blue

Item Weight: 4 pounds

Temperature Rating: 20 – 40 Degrees Fahrenheit

Dimensions: 6.25 x 2.75 feet

Packed Size: 10 x 17.8 x 10.4 inches

Description

The Coleman Brazos Cold Weather Sleeping Bag has a length of 6.25 feet but will fit anyone up to 5.11 feet comfortably.

It’s created for 20 to 40 Degree temperatures, so mostly good for cool and warm weather camping such as spring, fall and summer.

It has a 100% polyester cover, 100% fill and knit lining. It is also completely machine washable.

You can zip two of these sleeping bags together to make a double bag.

There is a stuff sack included in the purchase and a 5-year limited warranty.

The 5-year warranty covers wear and tear, not damage from careless use.

Key Features

Fiberlock construction – Stops the fill from shifting and creating cold spots – extends the life of the bag

No-Snag Patented Zipper – This feature stops snags as it keeps the zipper away from the material when in use

Roll Control System – Stops the bag from moving when it’s being rolled up, which makes for an easier, effortless pack up every time

Quick Cord – Tighten the cord up in a fast and easy manner with this “quick cord no-tie patented packing system”

Thermolock System – Stops cold air getting through the zippers and warm air escaping

What I Like

The vast amount of features is what I like the most!

The No-Snag Patented Zipper system and Fiberlock Construction are probably my favorite two features that it offers.

You don’t see many sleeping bags in such a low price range that offers this many features, so the manufacturers (Coleman) have done a great job with this one.

What I Don’t Like

It’s not exactly on the expensive side, meaning it’s cheap quality and probably not going to last a long time unless you rarely use it, of course.

I’m also not a big fan of the length.

It’s comfortable for people at 5 feet and 11 inches, so anyone taller than that will not find this sleeping bag comfortable for them.

Who Should Use It?

It’s designed for people up to 5 feet 11 inches, so if you are that height or shorter you can consider using this bag.

I’ve discovered that it’s an “all-rounder” sleeping bag, meaning it has a variety of uses and works for people of all sizes.

Good for:

  • Kids – boys and girls
  • Women
  • Men

Usage:

  • Sleepovers
  • Camping 3 seasons
  • Backpacking in summer
  • Overnight hiking
  • Music festivals
  • Backyard camping
  • Family events

Do I Recommend This Sleeping Bag?

Listen, this is a great sleeping bag for the price, hands down.

The people that are complaining about it are the ones missing out on a cheap, good quality bag.

The only complaints worth mentioning were the ones in the cons section.

The rough, itchy lining was talked about a few times in the negative reviews. However, there were 20 times more people (probably more) saying there was nothing wrong with the lining because it is actually comfortable.

Getting the sleeping bag back into the stuff sack was another complaint.

That is a viable complaint, I agree. But if that’s going to be a problem you can just place it in another bag while you go on your adventures.

The Coleman Brazos Cold Weather Sleeping Bag offers lots of features, has a boatload of positive reviews and only a small number of negatives, while it performs exactly as advertised.

What more could you ask for?

So to answer this question, I would hands down recommend this sleeping bag!

An Alternative Sleeping Bag

The Coleman Dunnock Large Cold Weather Sleeping Bag has different lining than the Coleman Brazos.

There are 0 complaints about the lining, it has a lower temperature rating and sits in the same price range.

It is also a better choice for taller campers since it has a longer length.

Final Opinion

What surprised me was the high positives and small amount of negative reviews.

And to be completely honest with you, the negative feedback is from people being nitpicky.

That’s all it comes down to.

For such a low price why would you have high expectations. Of course it needs to stand up to the claims, and indeed it does and has the testimonials to back it up.

If you’re worried about the complaints, don’t be.

Why?

There are a bunch of good features, it’s so low in price, it keeps you warm for whatever activity you’re using it for and offers a good amount of quality considering how inexpensive it is.
