Is this tent any good to use in the great outdoors, or is it just ‘decent’ enough for camping in the backyard? I will be answering this question, along with many more in this Coleman Hooligan 4-Person Tent review.
Most of the time Coleman make some incredible tents, but other times they can create really bad ones. I have no idea if this one will be the same.
That’s the reason why a lot of research will need to be done in order to find the real quality behind this tent. If that’s also what you would like to find out, then I suggest you keep reading 🙂
This tent has been described to be good for backpacking (if you split the weight up of course), and decent enough for a small family. It features a full coverage fly (which is made from 450mm coated polyester).
This typical style of rain fly ‘cacoons’ the tent so it protects you and your equipment during harsh rain storms.
It also contains a vestibule area (space under the rain fly to keep your equipment safe from the elements). The body is made of mesh, making it work incredibly well for ventilation.
The seams are factory sealed, so this tent is ready to go as soon as it arrives. The flooring is bathtub-styled (this wraps up around the sides to provide extra protection against rain water).
These are also welded, even in the corners, this will stop rain from coming in even more.
The set up has been described as incredibly easy, mostly because of the color coded poles, while the instructions is sewn to the carry bag so you never lose them.
What Makes This Tent Unique?
The fact that it’s a 4 PERSON tent that contains a vestibule area! These typical styles of tents aren’t that easy to find either.
I really like how they have the bathtub (welded) flooring.
Staying completely dry in your tent is highly important, I can see that the manufacturers of this tent are putting an emphasis on the waterproofing capabilities.

This tent is typically designed for a small family and a group of friends that want to go on a weekend camping trip.

Otherwise you’ll all be squished together like sardines all lined up.

Pros and Cons
- The manufacturers have ensured no rain is going to to the inside of this tent – very waterproof
- Will make a great choice for camping out in the backyard
- Will easily fit four people all with mummy-shaped sleeping bags. This will help combat the coldness that seeps through the mesh material
- There’s no where to hang your flashlight or lantern
- There is absolutely no privacy unless you have the rain fly on – which is a bad idea during the warmer days
- It’s made of mesh, making it extremely cold to use other than in the summer time
- A lot of people saying the style is great but the quality of the tent is bad
Do I Recommend This Tent?
There’s so many mixed reviews regarding this tent, a good reason why I wouldn’t purchase one for myself.
People are talking about the quality being incredibly bad, as the tent won’t even last long with normal use. I simply can not recommend it.
There are much better alternatives you can choose, all STILL in the same price range.
Personally, I think the Coleman Hooligan 4 Person Tent is not worth your money.
There’s a much better tent I would like you to see. It is higher quality and designed for 4 people while being incredibly weatherproof at the same time.
This tent actually has a lot more privacy when the rain fly is off, I think you should check out my review on the ALPS Mountaineering Meramac 4 Tent – the only downside is there’s no vestibule area.
The Slumberjack 4 Persont Tent DOES have a vestibule room, it holds up in harsh winds and keeps the rain out incredibly well.
Although it’s a little heavier than other tents, at least is is well-made and does a great job in the wilderness.
My Final Opinion
Even though there are a lot of people talking about how the Coleman Hooligan Tent performs so well in the great outdoors, there are also a large number of people giving it negative reviews.
I have reviewed so many tents that are on the market and I can sense when something doesn’t seem right. This is one of those times.
The tent is not going to perform as good as the manufacturers claim it to, the only thing I could see this tent good for, is backyard camping.
But even for that, there’s better alternatives.
If you want to give this tent the benefit of the doubt, you can purchase it here on Amazon.
Otherwise, I would rather you check out the Slumberjack 4 Person Tent!
